I know it's too early, but I'm starting to feel that even 2008 will pass by without CD.
#2862 Re: Guns N' Roses » How will the delays effect C.D.'s sales? » 916 weeks ago
Axl saying fans weren't ready for GNR in 2002 is a lame cop out. The only person who wasn't ready was Axl, and like Elmir pointed out, he still isn't ready. There was a huge buzz at the time, and all this "freak" shit is just hindsight talking. It didn't happen so its safe for people to say why it didn't happen. If we're in 2010 and the album still isn't out, people will have a list of excuses as to why this version of the band didn't do it either.
We're in 2007, and the high point for this band is still Madagascar at Rio in 2001. Would the album have sold back then? Abso-fucking-lutely.
Axl missed his big chance in 2001. His Rio peformance (mostly Madagascar and The Blues) was great, he had his huge comeback with the 'almost secret' HOB and RIR show. He fucked up the whole thing because the album wasn't done or Axl wasn't ready. He's nuts to miss such an opportunity... Goldstein saw the potential, booked a European tour then Axl canceled it for bullshit reasons. 2002 still had potential, but except BH the whole band sounded shit. 2006 with the leaks was the last chance as I see it. Axl's only chance is a very-very strong first single and a great but not overproduces album. The later will be the problem. On the other hand it'll impossible for them to hypte the album without Axl speaking a lot, doing interviews etc., because nobody's interested in the other guys and I doubt they'll be free to talk about anything EVER.
BTW the fanbase is thining. The know nothing about the band. since they lost interest. Yesterday an old member popped up @ the Hungarian GN'R board. We haven't seen him since 2003. He asked what happened since then, because he didn't have Internet and when he logged in somewhere else, wasn't interested enough to search for news. Believe me, besides some internet freaks, nobody cares. Axl has to build up the whole thing again. If he didn't have the name, his album wouldn't sell much better than Baz's.

Mysteron said it was in the labels hands now, thats it, its just a presumption.
I think he's never said that, only something double-assed coment which can easily be ministerpreted.

But as always, Axl does his double talkin' jive: My favourite parts regarding the - absolutely misleading - 'tentative release date':
'We do hope you can hold on just a bit longer, and if not, please take a break and we'll be more than glad -- if you so choose -- to see you again later.'
They were talking bout a release date in less than 3 weeks! Why would anyone take a break for such a short time? It's clear that Axl knew that they had no chance to meet that date. I bet he knew that finishing the album would take more and he was looking forward a long mixing process as well. And he had to know about the contract negotiation problems... so I don't get why he lied to his fans
Technically he didn't lie because he never committed himself with that letter. Tentative, is tentative not set in stone and that was his out.
He lied because he knew it was impossible to meet that date. Hell, his album won't even come out this year. The 2004 'we hope to announce a release date in the next few months' bullshit was only wishful thinking, not a lie. But when you give yourself less than 3 months (when it takes at least 2 months to release an album and he admits that in the same letter) and a year later still nothing, then it's clear that the March date was a huge lie. I just don't understand why he needed that.

Mikkamakka wrote:Anyway, VR isn't and wasn't the real deal for them and they know it.
I'm interested that you think this, I always felt like it seemed they were very proud of VR in interviews. I mean i'd agree that VR is nothing compared to the GNR/STP achievments, but i'm not sure the band saw it that way. I always felt they realised that GNR would never be toped but were happy to have hit the big time in a smaller way again kinda thing....
I agree that they were comfortable with VR's (past) success. It was very far from the GN'R craze, even far from the biggest STP days, but they were one of the biggest bands around. I think it made them forget that Slash and Scott are limitating each other. I like Contraband, but Slash is far below his GN'R or Snakepit performances. When they released Libertad they were still 'content' (how Slash said) doing this VR thing. But the relatively bad/disappointing sales killed the pseudo-harmony in the band. Remember that Slash didn't even take part in the acoustic VR show. I guess they had serious differences and since Libertad wasn't successful enough, they don't wanna continue this, or just wanna have some break to 'rest' the problems, and after like 2 years, they'll decide if there is a chance for a last album.
#2868 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Australian Tour Dates Axed » 917 weeks ago
I think it is over. If it's the tour or the band, we'll see. Slash and Scott are obviously more interested in their own career than in VR. Funny enough, that the two egos confronted the most in the band. Anyway, VR isn't and wasn't the real deal for them and they know it. Maybe they'll play a few European shows then go to hiatus, leaving time and space for the solo projects. Then they'll throw out a 3rd record if the record company does want it. But it's a big IF. There is a chance for a third 'real' VR album a few years later, but more likely it's over.
#2869 Re: Guns N' Roses » Angel Down Released Today » 917 weeks ago
I agree DTJ that GNR would do much better but I just don't know if they would get as big as debut as we all hope or as they would have if the album were released say back in 2004 or even 2006 as "promised". I'm thinking it may not see a debut that high on the top 40 (perhaps somewhere in the low 20's or high teens) whereas before it (in my opinion) would have been a top ten or higher debut. Maybe someday we will find out...maybe.
I don't wanna start a GN'R vs. VR debate, but CD will be doing much much better than Libertad. The curiosity alone will sell a lot of albums, and the GN'R name is still very strong. The 2006 tour wasn't a big success, but it showed that there are still significant interest in GN'R, even without a new album. CD will debut in the Top 10, no doubt. This Baz disaster doesn't mean too much: he hyped the album a lot, used Axl's name to promote it, but hey, most GN'R fans just downloaded the 3 songs and that's all. My only fear that Axl gets scared that his name din't sell Baz's record. He shouldn't, though, cause the GN'R name is much stronger, and one Axl doesn't make Baz relevant. Nobody should have expected that.
Edit: BTW I like Baz, and feel sorry for him. He deserves more, he's an amazing singer.

just because YOU don't like the guy or his site doesn't mean its cool to harass the guy.
Unfortunately he's not here to defend himself, but I'm sure you'll do a great job
The guy is acting like a zealot or even more like an employee. He tries to rewrite GN'R's history and try to discredit everything the ex-members (mostly Slash) has done since leaving GN'R. The disrespect and hostility he shows towards Slash and Slash fans is amazing. (Slash is a liar, Slash is a thief, Slash is an alcoholic, a junkie, Salsh this, Slash that etc. 24 hours a day.) It's like he's obsessed with Slash. Either the guy's in need to visit a good psychiatrist or needs to close his eyes when he's looking in the mirror, he should stop this insanity.
(On the other hand he acts like everything current GN'R players or other employees say is the crystal clear truth, then when they get fired (Merck for example) he censor it.) Shocking, he's been doing this shit since Sanctuary started to sponsor him/his site. No wonder why the Axl camp is satisfied with the job he's doing, he's like the dark side of Beta.
thats a load of bullshit you wrote right there. nobody is discrediting anything, its simply not about slash anymore considering he left the fucking band 12 years ago. boo hoo
You're talking bullshit. The site is more about (bashing) Slash than anything else. The Axlites barely post in the GN'R section, they're doing the Salsh bash fest. You know it since you take a great part in that.
