I'd love to hear what Matt Chamberlain and Jon Evans could do as the rhythm section behind Slash.
BTW Intercourse your list is great!

Civil War had been played a ton, but it never received the proper single treatment. LALD shouldn't have even been released.
If covers were needed, I think Aint It Fun and New Rose would have fit better on the records. Both tracks were completed during the UYI sessions.
New Rose sucks Ain't It Fun would have been great on the UYIs though. Anyway, with those punk and not punk songs recorded, they should have rid of all the UYI covers, and TSI would have been better with LALD and KOHD. And with those Hanoi Rocks songs that has never got released.
My tracklists (with mixed up songs):
UYI I
Pretty Tied Up
Locomotive
Don' t Cry
Perfect Crime
Dust N' Bones
Bad Obsession
Double Talkin' Jive
So Fine
Estranged
Coma
UYI II
Civil War
Garden of Eden
The Garden
Don't Damn Me
November Rain
14 Years
You Could Be Mine
Bad Apples
Breakdown

Did they not visit the house before they bought it...?

I think a Slash album a la Santana would be awesome. I'd buy it in a second.
I agree. It's the No 1 on my wish list.

If this is the case, then why the fuck don't they just go somewhere else?
I think whoever is stating this is paraphrasing. I don't think verbatim this is what went on. You wouldn't "renew" a recording contract?! He obviously owes them at least 1 album, otherwise the label would not have given him an advance AND he could go to a different label also.
He might have said Merck never "renegotiated" the deal (ie ask for more money, higher royalties, forgive the $13 mil advance). In which the label can say "No" and GnR's still under contract with them and cannot go somewhere else. Possible mix-up in the translation.
IF the rumours are true and he's having 3 albums material recorded, it will all come out at Universal or he/another company will have to pay A LOT for this. Universal won't finance albums that would come out somewhere else. No way.

Did the 2007 4th quarter list of releases ever come out?
I guess we should be more concerned about the 2008 lists...

This use of the word "dated" is just ridiculous, especially when talking about recordings that aren't finally, mixed , mastered, and RELEASED with authorization from the artist!
The huge difference is that songs that were played by 'real' instruments (guitar, drum, piano etc) have a smaller chance to sound 'dated', cause the natural sound makes them 'eternal'. Unlike computer music - Depeche Mode's 80s albums sound dated, NIN's Pretty Hate Machine, Kraftwerk etc. all sound dated. My World sounds dated. The synth in PC sounds dated. Computer music'sbeen evolving much faster than anything else in music, so it's quite a risk and an opportunity at the same time. What sounds fresh today will be dated tomorrow.

You're right fault is the wrong word. One thing cannot be disputed is the evolution of GNR with the UYI's as I posted before, that entire tour was unbelievably successful and maybe Axl wanting change even moreso going forward with GNR after TSI was obviously just too much for Slash, Duff and Matt.
Axl didn't even know what he wanted to do. He wanted to do a Pearl Jam-type album, then an all acoustic album, then a piano album, then a NIN album. He didn't have his aim, just wanted to control everything. Even Zakk Wylde said that whaever was trendy back then, Axl wanted to do that. BTW the 'wanting to change' attitude caused him to fire Gilby without the others agreeing and take in his childhood friend, who hadn't played on stage before. A bedroom guitarist in GN'R...right

My guess on it was that he might have been reacting to things said by the fans or in the press. I don't think he needs to be reacting to something Slash or VR said to have an opinion to share right?
I'm sure that he read on message boards what drove him insane enough to rant. But in the end of the rant, it turned out that Slash and Duff are the bad guys and can suck his dick. So Axl blamed the ex-members for forum people's opinion.
