All of what you mentioned will exist in some capacity. Whether it ever emerges or is released is another matter.

The liner notes talk about how Axl spent his summer “how I saved my life” which is likely either 98-99.
But many of the songs you mention originate from at least mk2-3 of the project, ie soul monster
Meaning Chinese was nothing more than an EP. The only mk1 song we haven’t heard is Oklahoma later Berlin which surprise is more of axl’s personal politics ala Erin everly.
The point being the entire project seems to be axls mental illness concept album. I’m not trying to be mean here. It isn’t until better and scraped that he uses a different voice.

The 99-00 version is a close fit to uyi tracks like breakdown
Robins work is great, should’ve been explored elsewhere.
The forced hook in the album version is so bad. Just an abomination of a version.

Yeah people sleep on IRS but that and TWAT are enough to carry an album. Maybe a little thin but workable.
I dig em both. And we should’ve gotten a reworked version recorded around 2006 but of course that never happened.
It would’ve been a sonic cousin of Sorry but missed opportunity #30000080

I get the impression there were 6 songs Axl wanted out.
The rest was just endless revisionism, self-doubt, and lack of vision.
Axl tinkering around trying to find the vein to tap into. And then he stopped looking.

I love If The World.
I blasted it on my computer and then my newly minted headphones. It’s just a fun song.
It’s the type of song that’d inspire any sensible band to record a concept album of Bond songs, movie soundtrack songs and the like. A trip through history. Through eras. And so on.
Make Chinese it’s own thing, make the movie soundtrack it’s own thing, make the industrial project it’s own thing.
Chinese will instead be what it was, jack of trades master of none.

I don’t miss Buckets solo. It’s impressive but does nothing but artificially extend the song.
Village version is perfect.
