#281 Re: The Sunset Strip » Roger Waters - Dark Side Redux » 105 weeks ago
It's not really what I was expecting...but I like it.
Lush orchestration, great arrangement, all let down by Roger's worst tendencies and vocal limitations.
I get your point...but I'm not gonna criticize him too much due to his advanced age.
If he was going to devote time(hee hee) to reimagining peak Floyd...Wall, Dark Side, or Animals...it probably should've happened in the early 2000s when he was able to become a stadium act touring the Floyd material. I think the public would've been more open to it.
Edit
Yeah...the passage of time and how it sorta warps is fascinating...and frightening.
He is really not allowed to be doing this. Old guy, very old, voice is shot and he's going to to remake Dark Side of the Moon, without guitar!
And yet this is good. Very, very good. The way he rearranges the melody using different instruments is just sublime. I can easily picture myself listening to this as much as the original.

I had completely forgotten the name, but I remember the music. Yeah that was big for a while. RIP.

The above lyrics from Run to the Hills is inspired by "pinko left" material. That was probably more obvious to people in the 70s and 80s. Especially conservative places like small town Indiana.
Axl back then used to hate all those extreme political views from both the left and the right. That is what ultimately inspired One In A Million where he rails about everyone trying to get up in his business.
It's nice to see these old interviews though, back when he could still be himself when talking to the media. The difference in his demeanor on say Jimmy Kimmel is stark. His soul got crushed in the early 90s.

I have to agree. I'm not sure Slash has a great solo in him anymore.

This is what Axl means about political:
White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes, he killed our creed
He took our game for his own need
Judging by this Iron Maiden would be considered left wing activists and they used their music to push that message.

Getting a reworked OMG in place of a new song would of course be a disappointment, but the idea is not bad in itself. The vocals are killer and with a little Slash and Duff it could become a pretty good song.

There is no alternative timeline where Kasich gets the nomination.

I'm surprised at the lack of love for Quicksong.

Berlin 51 doesn't have any special significance that I know of. I don't think any important historical events are connected to that year. It would have to refer to something more personal.
To me it suggest authenticity because why would anyone make that up? Atlas Shrugged as a title also feels from left field in that regard. The track list too has a good mix of expected and weird.

They did Silkworms which would probably fall even more so in that category.
