Sounds like fun. Let's do it!

We talking the one with the lighthouse? Not if I'm an episode behind or not. But, yeah, it gave answers the way Lost always gives answers - by creating more questions.
I'm getting more and more nervous about the possibility of this show having a satisfying ending.

Yeah, jorge...we are definitely of the same mind on this one. I'm certainly approaching it as the beginning of a musical hobby rather than just as a fun toy to bang on.
Our school started musical instruments at 4th grade, but we were limited to strings. I was anxious to play something so I did viola. 6 months of plucking and screeching later, I decided it wasn't for me and switched to drums. I'm sure my parents are glad they didn't dump a bunch of money into a good viola and instead I had a rental from school.
We picked up a used snare drum for about $50. Once I had stayed with that for awhile, I eventually bought a drumkit from a buddy who had switched to guitar.
...If you're looking for a toy, just get the Rock Band game. Then your nephew can be a pretend drummer just like all the other kids out there.

wow...i'm glad i didnt buy that kit...it appears that it woulda been the wrong thing to do....but what does a guitar player know about drums anyway?
In my experience....nothing.:haha:

Dammit! Missed it!
Come on UziSuicide....I understand protecting copyrights and shit, but ever hear of viral marketing? Or building anticipation?

I've been drumming for about 25 years (since about age 10) and agree with pretty much everything that jorge said.
I would definitely go with a snare drum first. One of the biggest mistakes I've seen a lot of young drummers do is jumping straight into a full kit. Yeah, I know it's cool and you want to do those big fills and crash the cymbals and all that right away, but just like anything else, the best place to start is by learning the basics.
Get a snare drum. Learn the proper way to hold the sticks. Work on basic techinique and rudiments. If your nephew finds this enjoyable and wants to learn more, then take the next step and get a kit.
At this point, I think the best gift would be a snare drum and drum lessons. I don't know what the going rate these days is, but maybe you could get him a weekly lesson for 6 months or a year.

Any chance you're gonna update us with the setlist?
Sure. I think something could be arranged.
Though aftet the Korea shows, set list updates might not be very exciting. Also, I think Jarmo is coming to the Tokyo show, so he may be doing updates as well.
I don't know how to find this out but how are the tix selling for this show?
I just got my tickets this past weekend. Wish I could've got them sooner but I needed to figure out who was going with me. We're now 2 weeks before the show. the cheaper B and C tickets were sold out. A and S were still available. I got the most expensive "S" tickets and ended up with row 21. Not sure how many rows/seats there are, but that seems to me like the top tier tickets are not selling very well...
#29 Re: The Sunset Strip » Dream Theater? CAn someone Propose some Dream Theater for me ? » 812 weeks ago
Even though I wasn't the one to request this, thanks for all the recommendations. I've been a huge Rush fan forever and people have often told me that I should check out Dream Theater. Maybe it's time I finally get around to giving them a listen.

Having lived in Asia for over 12 years now, I personally don't think it's fake. More likely, as has been mentioned, the bizarre nature of his answers comes from mistranslation. I've seen some pretty poorly translated stuff over the years. This is potentially worse because it's been through the filter twice.
I've done some translating myself and worked with other translators. Obviously, the language comprehension ability of the translator is a major factor, but since translators are human, you're also dealing with biases, assumptions, and other factors that can make a translated version much different from the original.
