The TV's just didn't wow me enough. Maybe it's this economy.

I went over the music, movies, & TV carefully, and got what I wanted, but alot of the stock was already gone, and hit.

Probably the weirdest thing was, I bought one of their aisle DVD sales racks off of them for my room.

This thing is bitchin'. I even asked them to keep the 'sales' flyers on it. So I got this big ass sales rack in my room with all these $9.99 & $14.99 signs. It's great!

I did that at a comic book store that was going under once. It's a totally badass, unique way to display a collection. 9

I'm glad to see someone else thinks as highly of Population Override as I do.

Bardem delivered a fine performance in a fine picture. I was really impressed and I rooted for him. Ledger crafted a performance that ultimately became the film surrounding it. It being a performance as the Joker in a Batman movie seriously handicapped it. As you ultimately admitted, it doesn't require a fanboy or nutswinger to see this performance as something truly special. I don't know why a parallel has to be drawn between this performance and Bardem's specifically, although I do believe Ledger's to be superior. Heath Ledger was an altogether superior actor to Javier Bardem. It's too bad it took his death for others to maybe see that. I, like many, always felt that way.

Your review wasn't as "delusional" as your reaction to being disappointed by it, which was to essentially wash your hands of a franchise that had already endured Jason X and Freddy vs. Jason. The film's massive box office drop can more accurately be attributed to its being a) a horror movie that had b) an atypical opening weekend based on a number of coincidental scenarios. And yet I do agree that Zombie is best left to his own devices. Halloween is his weakest film so far, but I've always argued that rather than it being because Zombie's a fence straddler, you have to keep in mind the studio(s) he made it for. While that's essentially still his own fault, there's no denying Scissorhands Weinstein and Malek Akkad had a lot to do with that forced remake bit. If Zombie had been given the proper freedom to make his own Halloween movie, that'd have the potential to be really special. I think a sequel is where he'll find that freedom, without the handicap of the film's name, prior legacy, and existing (and fickle) fanbase. Zombie most likely agreed to H2 to make the kind of Halloween movie he wanted to in the first place.

Orion's always qualified by my standards. 5

Not the best solo by Tipton/Downing, at least in terms of technical proficiency, but one of my favorites:

Ledger's Joker performance transcended the film itself and became a work of high art. Living or dead, he deserves every accolade he receives and then some. Anyone who doesn't believe in the power of this single performance isn't familiar enough with the craft of acting or the process of filmmaking. His Joker is a mercurial entity that permeates every frame of a film in which he truly appears rather infrequently. If the Academy only saw fit to nominate him because of his untimely death, they prove themselves as sycophantic, starfucking pieces of shit who care more about the politics of the film industry than the art of film itself. I'd like to think that, in a less devious mode, they felt that much more compelled to award Ledger after robbing him of a win for Brokeback Mountain (see also: John Wayne's belated win for True Grit).

People complained about the backstory idea long before the remake came out, then said it the was film's better half and bitched out the actual remake portion. Now, instead of a retread of Halloween II or any given one of the other Halloween sequels, Zombie again wants to do something original or his own, and it gets bitched out...by the same people who already admit his backstory portion of the remake was its best attribute. It gets old, to the point that I get sick of covering Zombie's films here or anywhere. There seems to be such a vitriolic hate for the guy within the horror community that to support him is to brandish yourself with the scarlet letter. I really like Zombie's Halloween. John Carpenter's Halloween is my. favorite. movie. of. all. fucking. time. I've seen it over a hundred times. I wrote a thesis on it. I've dissected its every frame.

I still enjoyed Zombie's Halloween. A lot. People need to understand once and for all that slasher movies aren't attempting high art (see: all delusionally "disappointed" reviews of the Friday the 13th reboot). I think Zombie's Halloween sequel sounds cool because it sounds different. Maybe when people make up their minds, they can decide if they really want different or remake. Because Zombie tried to do both before and was crucified for it.
