The solos and jams give his voice time to rest....that is pretty obvious. I don't like them either but they serve a purpose.

Another suggestion for this board and the setlists. Can we just list the full songs played? No jams or solos...just full songs. Another Brick in the Wall wouldn't be a full song. It makes it easier to follow and count actual songs played.

That's a fine idea. Or something like-

1. Song
2. Song
3. Song
4. Song
5. Song
DJ Solo - Ballad Of Bill Hubbard
6. Song
7. Song
Piano Moving Piss Break Jam
8. Slow Song
9. Song

Why would they not be putting That Metal Show commercials on their own VH1 website? Looks like it's not been updated since last season. Was at least looking to see SOMETHING. smile

Even rasslin doesn't sell out the Garden all the time.

And... I'd have to wager to say that it's the actuaries/number crunchers and people with Excel spreadsheets that actually figure out tour routing, Axl isn't leaving well enough alone for anything. It depends on arena availability, how other acts are doing (or not doing) in those places, and how much the arena's rental fee will hit the bottom line.

Although it seems like all shows paper now, papering and all the press to get MSG full and still getting the big time venue rental and big time fees probably tells me that they'd rather do a few 50%-70% shows in other places.

All I know is it has to be complicated. And it's the promoters doing it.

You guys are thinking of VANCOUVER, not Philly.

Vancouver, BC was where the promoter panicked and pulled the plug at the last minute.

Philly was always blamed on and about Axl.

And in his personal life maybe he's just that. But this is Guns N' Fuckin' Roses, not Coldplay. I'm not trying to be arrogant about something like this, but I really strongly believe that people take the matter of the band's (man's) late arrivals a little too personally and seriously. If someone's been consistently "late" for 25 years, at what point do we stop considering it a late arrival and logically figure "If Axl's waited till about midnight to make an appearance at the last dozen or so gigs on this leg of the tour, it would stand to reason that the pattern should continue here tonight. Therefore, I shouldn't expect the man to break several decades of 'bad habits' and arrogantly believe that tonight, for me and my show, he'll show up promptly at 8."

Think about it. I'm not trying to disrespect anyone, but the argument's jumped the shark. Even if it held water in '02 or '06, in 2011 you should know exactly what you're signing up for when you plop your ticket money down on the counter. Let's stop kidding ourselves.

I completely agree. Sometimes I wonder why they don't just print "GN'R start time NO EARLIER than 11pm!" on the ticket.

Agree on the ticket thing.

But no, the VENUE pulled the plug in Vancouver. Not the promoter.
And the venue pulled the plug (or someone called and said Axl is not coming for sure) in Philly.

Then the promoter pulled the plug on the tour. Promoters pull plugs on tours, not shows.

There's also the story that they were going to 'renegotiate' some bit of the money and Axl didn't want to play ball.

Or that he was watching a basketball game.

#306 Re: Guns N' Roses » Podcast/Spin Interview Discussion (Trunk&co on Ax) *possible spoilers* » 711 weeks ago

I think it was...  venue pulled the plug because he was going to be ridiculously late, and then Clear Channel (after two non-shows and two riots) pulled the plug...or didn't pull the plug, it was sort of a Russian Roulette over 'who pulled the plug' because someone was going to have to write a big fat check.

When they years later said they couldn't talk about Philly, that's why. There was still an issue of whether or not Guns would have to return a guarantee because a 'performer cancels' section of the contract would kick in, or if the 'promoter cancels' section of the contract would kick in.
Someone would be writing a check.
Neither party wanted it to be them.

Axl could have been in his hotel watching a basket ball game. Or got a phone call that pissed him off. Pissed because the record wasn't going to come out. Who knows. "Fuck it, I've got a show across the street tomorrow"...Or he was going to show up and it was cancelled before it made a difference.

As far as management... I bet the insulating bit could be Fernando/Beta... things get handled like a clusterfuck (website? the famous 'Axl releases a statement saying he did not just release a statement 1 day ago saying he released a statement', but at least the show goes on.

Peter- I have a theory- is http://www.qprime.com, Peter Mensch, connected to Metallica, RHCP...

I don't find DJ annoying. Just the 'tm' thing. That's annoying.
But I'm a fan of a guy who renamed himself 'Axl', so, YMMV.

#308 Re: Guns N' Roses » Guns N' Roses Vinyl LPs » 713 weeks ago

Hmm... while I can tell what they are, I still like them! And Live Era.
It sort of proved Axl could still sing back in the day. smile

Just to be clear I wasn't bagging on it, it's just hella loud on CD.

You gonna listen to it?
I'd love to know how it sounds. Got back into Live Era and I remembered how much it clipped/how much it was mastered really LOUD.
