The excuse that there’s no money to be made in making albums has been debunked, at least from a label perspective.

The link you cited is simplistic and doesn't show it's work.

For starters, the aggregate is irrelevant. The top players subsidize the lesser players, more so now than ever before.

If GNR doesn’t make an album, it’s because they don’t want to and have no interest in working together in that way.

The article paints the record industry as a low competition monopoly.

This means even if they wanted to release a new album they'd have little incentive in doing so or at least face an uphill battle.

And this isn't even mentioning the former contract situation, burned bridges, or GN'R's diminished place in the pantheon.

I’d be open to the argument but I too am skeptical. I’d want to see the numbers.

I suppose streaming and advertising revenues could be good money makers but they have every reason to spin the facts and fudge numbers and it won’t be as lucrative simply because the economy is a complete mess.

I would say this is good marketing and business strategy to wait a year and then release the AFD anniversary to boost ticket sales but I don’t think this was a calculated move considering European shows always sell well.

The second option Monkey posted seems bang on considering all the flirting GNR has been doing with Sirius XM lately.

So yeah, what Walker and Zombie said.

The domain is short and snappy. It works for marketing purposes.

But I don't really understand why you'd establish a new domain just to promote a tour or even an album.

A closed wall streaming platform seems too ambitious. High cost, high bandwidth stuff for a 30 year old band.

I hope it's because they're releasing a new album called Appetite For Destruction II. 14

Lotta sad damage, dark realisation on UYI. Amazing records. Not much light??

What about the Del & West writing credits.. self explanatory I guess..

Slash's solo after Alice's verse may be my 3rd favorite Slash moment.

I think the #1/#2 are the Estranged solo and the Live Era November Rain first solo.

So fucking good.

A fair point.

I guess you could say it's because those bands haven't existed in a decade or two decades.

The most disturbing thing to me is outside of Oh My God, no new songs were ever listed on a setlist. And that wasn't even a new song.

We're largely saying the same thing Monkey.

In 2002, the album would've been released after the VMAs and the US tour would've continued. Same thing as what you're saying about Metallica.

The Rio show in 2001 Axl made a point of saying what he said in 2008. This is the album, next year is another album, we'll be back on another tour.

But playing new songs live doesn't make sense unless you're releasing an album and they aren't.

On the other hand, this is why I'm utterly unbothered when people go "But we only have a five-year window before Axl's voice is out of commission they have to do an album NOW". Because if/when they do an album, it'll probably use the Chinese Democracy II vocal tracks, which were recorded – in some cases – back in 1999.

Yeah but that'd cover CD II.

If the 3rd album in the trilogy is incomplete, the vocals probably are too.

And if CD II is put on the shelf for politics or business reasons, we have nada.
