Yeah it does sound like Slash.
That bass could go either way. Tommy sounded great on the original songs and it doesn't instantly scream Duff but if one is on them, so is the other.
Remember Axl's comment on his Soul Monster vocals? Perfect description of Monsters.

I'm not jumping all over the mixes....yet. It deserves a bit of a free pass as it's a leak and not final.
The General sounds much rougher than Soul Monster.

If this is monstrosity, then I would bet that promo disc for it from back in the early 2010s is real. And handed out at that Vienna after-party. A bumblefoot/ashba version probably exists. Also the general is great and everyone shitting on it clearly needs their ears cleaned. Best birthday ever
I've heard it a grand total of one time(second time listening as we speak). Maybe it's a grower.
Either way, other than tinnitus...my ears are fine.

It's a crying shame if that remained an instrumental but it's possible
He mentions Monsters and Soul in the song.
It's Soul Monster.
We may never know what Elvis really was. As you know, I had reached the point where I don't even think that was GNR. It's Giant Robot/Bucket.
Maybe a clip from that instrumental was used in an early version of Soul Monster before he finally added vocals and the song titles were briefly merged.
Yes it was a beautiful instrumental. Crisp...razor sharp...another reason I think it was Bucket.

The orchestra sting on "The General" is the bridge, not the intro like I suspected. I'm not sure it works for the beginning of the bridge but the ending of the bridge is pretty satisfactory.
If "Monsters" is "Soul Monster", someone try to listen for Robin's SRV solo Axl mentioned.
Edit: It could be the solo 2:00-2:15 but I'm no SRV expert
I can see why some would feel that guitar work is SRV inspired.
I don't really hear it but could see why some might go there.
