#311 Re: Guns N' Roses » Del James Interview » 875 weeks ago

I really have no opinion on Del James except that when a guy admits if he wrote a book, he'd do the exact same thing that Slash and Nikki Sixx are "guilty" of, how much can I believe his interview in the first place.

I think Slash painted himself really clean in his book, squeaky even. But, I guess at the end of the day, I look at the calendar and see the year 2008 readily closing and Axl still hasn't released an album. And, I figure, hey, if Slash was really that big of a deal in GNR coming apart, if he was in the wrong so often, why in the holy hell would Duff and Matt form a band with him again? When Axl is the only remaining member in GNR (even though three of them are united in a band) and Izzy Stradlin craters at the thought of the words "lead singer", I am very cautious of approaching anything Axl or his friends consider "truth".

Reading some Axl Rose interviews, the guy either comes off as a major genius or a major tool. Some of his words are awesome, the next time he disses people complaining about him going on stage late because they wouldn't be complaining if they were getting laid (huh?) or the fact that he's not ready to go on stage and would be giving a half-assed show if he didn't go on stage when he felt like it. This shit just doesn't fly in the real world. It does not work like this and Axl has so many really weird flaws that it's hard not to take Slash as the bearer of what is closest to the truth. If what Slash says about Axl never showing up to rehearsals and recording or jam sessions is true and basically Axl using them as contract musicians is true (both of which I have no reason not to believe), that is all I need to know about who is at fault for the break-up of Guns N' Roses.

I always thought it was a joke that Canadians elected Harper in the first place. I'm not up to speed on Canadian politics like I should, but all I needed to hear was that knowing all he knew, he'd still go into Iraq if it was up to him to know that he's a complete and utter moron. I'm not sure what George Bush or the CIA knew when invading Iraq. Did they really have the intelligence that said they had WMDs? Was it just for oil? Sure, it was dumb either way, but at least Bush had to make the decision to go in and like anything, there's always a chance to fuck up. Harper KNOWS it's a fuck up and still would go in. That's horrible.

Yeah, people who dis Contrband dis themselves, there was a lot of rocking to be had on that album.

Anyone know why VR went a bit different with Libertad?

#314 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slash's Reaction to GN'R leaker!!!! » 878 weeks ago

Yeah, I'm not sure how the hell there are so many Axl supporters left; and I'm even more amazed at how he essentially talks shit on them all and they still act as though every second song he does is Bohemian Rhapsody. I respect Axl's music, but as a person that guy has more screws loose than damned near anyone.

I think Slash as a whole has no right to be talking shit on anyone else breaking the law. It's kind of like he said in his book, "Steven Adler was kicked out of GNR for drugs? Are you kidding me?!" That's what I would think of when I'd hear Slash lecturing anyone (he even stole candy during the UYI tour, and surely he had enough money then). But it's fair to give him some dues, I think his main issue was having the songs out before the album was even announced. But, those things happen when your album should have been out, at the latest, 2001. "You can have anything you want, but you better not take it from me", basically. It's like that with nearly everyone, so I don't hold it against him too much.

But, the sins Slash has committed have been beaten tenfold by Axl Rose, and I don't get why the hell people are divided on Guns N Roses of all bands. And the anti-Slash people are so confusing because in terms of Axl and Slash, even if you hate Slash, there's no way you can look down on him more than Axl. If you hate Slash because he kicked you dog, well, all right. But people calling him a sell-out or saying he never exits his "comfort zone" come across as crazy as Axl himself. Based on most of their accounts, if he did leave his comfort zone it'd be selling out, and if he stayed in this "comfort zone", he's just a hack playing the same rock tunes over and over because there's nothing more to accomplish in Rock N Roll music, apparently, unless you play over phony drum tracks? True artists play what they want to play, not what you, me or anyone else expects them to play.

Yeah, Slash was pretty pro-Axl for what it's worth in his book.

I agree it makes Slash look to be quite the hypocrite though. That's the problem when everyone knows everything about you. Everything you say is going to be thrown back in your face. Rightfully so in this instance. I am hoping it's more because of the fact that it's not even out yet than actual "stealing".

On a side note, I was at Chapters one day (in a rare, rare fucking visit!) and I saw an unauthorized bio of Axl Rose and the other was none other than Mick Wall. I was like... what the fuck!?

Anyone actually know what the critics said in their magazines to piss Axl off? I have heard it's because they'd give their albums bad reviews because of Axl's erratic behavior. I just can't find any of the articles in which the negative articles were written.

#318 Re: Guns N' Roses » you can't please everyone » 879 weeks ago

I would just like to guess that he still wants to rock n' roll and if he only plays ballads, that's not going to happen. Not to mention so many of them are so damn long. Great, but long. I am actually siding with Axl on this one, and I'm gonna steal the Michael Jordan to the Max analogy of things for this statement. There's gonna be a lot of people in the crowd who are going to be having a one-time Axl Rose/Guns N' Roses experience that night, they will never have the chance to see the guys play again. And for that reason, he needs to stick to the hits and play the rock that made the group famous. He's got a short, but strong back catalogue and I think in his mind it's just a matter of the rock on UYI being interchangeable with the rock on AFD, but AFD's is all the more powerful. Plus, I think the CD stuff is similar to UYI, so he's devoting 1/2 the show to rocking hard and 1/2 to the new epic stuff.

Shit, the last thing I'm going to do is sit here and cry about great songs like Out Ta Get Me and My Michelle. Would I love to hear Estranged or Civil War? Sure, but to me it's not something worth getting my panties in a bunch over and he's gotta fit the CD stuff in there somewhere.

What exactly revolved around the Axl setlist rant/statement (I can't find it)? Any help?

#320 Re: Guns N' Roses » GNR's 'Democracy' To Be Retail Exclusive? » 879 weeks ago

You know, is anyone 100% certain that Walmart wouldn't sell it with a sticker? I'm in Canada but it just dawned on me that about 4 years ago I re-bought Use Your Illusion II there and it definitely filled my ears with those familiar naughty words.
