At Rio IV, "I had an agenda" to bring down Axl Rose and declare Guns N' Roses as over.
Today, "I have an agenda" to spin negativity into positivity.
These kind of inane, lack of knowledge, "let's shit all over an UPDATE thread" type posts which have such a lack of consistency in "pegging Axlin" show how much people just don't know what the fuck they are talking about.
I am more objective than anybody on this board about Axl, and frankly i'm not gonna bust my ass to defend that. When i'm positive ("I have an agenda") when i'm negative ("I'm a hater").
Lightweights man... I deal with lightweights all the time here.
Seriously, get over yourself.
I have no idea nor do I care what you posted in the past. But it seems you are very quick to jump on anyone who makes light of poor attendance numbers.
I am happy you enjoyed your shows. But let's not revise history here and call the sky green.

It's wrong. But I wouldn't say massively.
The venue STUPIDLY withheld side-stage tickets until the day of the show, thinking people would buy shit seats, and work up into the good seats.
Didn't happen. Security was tight making sure people stayed in their correct seats, then the side stage seats were basically peppered or empty. Then as soon as those sections ended, it was packed from their to the back of the mixing center.
Upper deck was curtained off.
Was higher than 8,000. My guess is it was more like 11,000-12,000.
You seem to be spinning positivity, so I will take it all with a grain of salt.
The reporter made an estimate and I tend to trust those without agendas as the review was very positive.

Based on the pics i've seen the configuration looks like a typical end stage configuration.
Russ said that the end stage was intact, and that he had seen Roger Waters there recently and it was exactly the same during Waters show.
So until there's a full debriefing tomorrow... don't argue an e-mail with a REAL PERSON who's actually at the show.
I asked him TWICE to fully confirm that it was not true. He re-affirmed both times. So if there's a mid-stage, there is MASSIVE confusion going on between our communication pre-show.
If you are looking at the same pics I am, I don't think you can tell.
I will await visual proof and/or Russ description of the stage set up and the meaning of the 'small theater configuration'.
I have two posters at the show sending back reports.

Russ says... "Not even close to being true" about the stage
Agrees with the less than 7,000 assessment.
Palace Concert goers were sent an email that said:
During its first U.S. tour in five years, Guns N' Roses will perform an intimate small theatre configuration show at The Palace tomorrow evening.
If the Palace follows other venue protocol, this means the stage was moved from the end stage to the midcourt position. In addition, one of the Bar members has texted back that the upper levels were curtained off.
So I beg to differ with Russ.

okay, now. And the work on the new record occurs when?

I can't see DJ leaving without reason. It is possible that Ron is so hurt that he is forced to leave the tour and a call to Bucket is made. Doubtful that he would pick up.
But, like it or not, these are the guys Axl has decided to go to war with the forseeable future. At least until someone gets pissed off and walks out again.

Great post, Sunshinekid. I find it hard to disagree with a single point.
Finck was a monster in '06. He and Axl carried that tour to the point where DJ is simply following that shadow at this point. DJ is a damn nice guy and good to the fans, but R ob i n was an immense presence five years ago. His departure hurt a lot. Bucket's stung me harder though.

For media purposes I agree with you that they're both better at promotion, but I really don't think any significant number of people will care if it's Robin or DJ up there next to Axl. As I said before, the only person opposite Axl that meant/means anything is and will always be Slash. And again, Buckethead had started growing a cult following with GN'R, and if GN'R was a competent organization when he was in the band, at least to the extent they are now, Bucket would have been a household name and an icon in pop culture. I don't think it would reach the level of Slash, but he would have been huge and would have drawn people to GN'R and given the band a totally different identity, which the line up had in 2002.
I hope more people see the current line up as a band, and I think that Ron and DJ are not only positive influences, but also media savy and will help at promotion and hopefully that will help put a new face on the band that people will recognize. But I don't see them being any better than Bucket and Robin for the future success of GN'R. It's very obvious that rests solely and 100% on the shoulders of Axl Rose and nobody else. And he hasn't done a very good job of it in the last 10 years. But I'm very happy where the band is now. 2002 could have been hugely successful, and imo, bigger than what they can accomplish now. But, I'm happy, the band is rolling and everything seems to be going fantastic and I'm once again optimistic for the future of the band. Something I haven't been for quite a while. And that's all that matters.
I think Bucket would have been a huge presence in this band if he stuck around to play his own songs.
Ron is certainly capable and a nice guy, but he lacks star power. I also loathe his solo material. That is something I cannot say about Bucket.
