I agree with Mikkamakka that war's statement is absolutely absurd. It's just as likely that if CD was released in 87 GNR would have never had the impact they did and we wouldn't be sitting here today.
AFD is a timeless classic. It's considered one of *the* essential rock albums to own. CD doesn't hold a candle to it. That's not a knock on CD because it is a good album, but they caught lightning in a bottle with AFD. It wasn't big just because it was released in 87. It was a combination of everything. The perfect record with the perfect attitude at the right time. CD doesn't have the larger than life songs that AFD contains. I don't think these tunes will make an impact the way the songs from AFD made. I don't think they will be staples on the radio 20 year from now. CD is not going to be considered an essential rock album the way AFD is.
There are too many Axl fans that convinced themselves that this album was a masterpiece and would be just as good as if not better than AFD before they ever heard one note. If people took off the Axl goggles they'd realize this is a good but unspectacular album. It's a nice followup to the Illusions, but it's nothing earth shattering.

Yeah, I know but that doesn't mean these particular ads will be seen. I guess it's hard to imagine them being played in the next two weeks when the band has yet to confirm anything.

Something tells me these ads will never hit the airwaves. They are playing off on the election theme, but the election is a couple of weeks away.

Yeah, I think that's a great point Neemo. The old songs are ingrained in some of us and it's hard to top the songs that was a part of the soundtrack of our youth. But for me it's also that these song's aren't as catchy and memorable as the classics. Better is the only new song that I get the urge to listen to it on its own. I don't get that urge with the others.

With the exception of Better I don't think the new material quite stacks up against the old classics. They are good tunes, but they are a notch below. I wouldn't even rank them against some of the tracks that aren't in my top 10 such as RQ, Brownstone, PC, Patience, OIAM.

I have a funny story on this. I ordered a couple other things when I ordered CD on the Canadian bestbuy site. Anyways I called afterwards to make sure they would ship everything on the 23 or 24th of Nov instead of shipping the other things seperately. Anyways the lady at customer service said that CD will be shipped differently in case it doesn't come out. I laughed when she said that and I told her I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. She just said they were cautious about it. I just thought it was funny she said that it would ship seperately so that I would get everything else if it would not come out.
It is funny that she said that, but they would ship everything seperate regardless because they aren't going to hold the rest of your order back while you're waiting for a pre-order.
