You're gonna get flamed for that title, son.
It sounds like a few people making shit up.
The only clip of The General out in the open that's legit is the orchestrations used in the intro of some shows.
I trust Kaneda not to bullshit.
It's supposedly a cell phone recording.
#322 Re: Guns N' Roses » Eagles may predict the future? » 386 weeks ago
It's possible, I suppose.
But Marc Canter and others in the know have said a reunion was always what was planned. CD was to be a three-album affair, then reunion.
Baz said the reunion was earlier than he thought, Tommy painted a picture of a stranded Axl after Bumblefoot and DJ departed into the hereafter.
Work on the album likely hit a record company stand-still. No band, you say? CD sequel, you say? I think we seen that movie too. No dice, Axl san!
Necessity is The Mothers of Invention.
The fate of the CD2 stuff will be interesting.

Axl's own morse code admission that Chinese Democracy is "what got through the red tape".
I'd like to see the actual quote on that.
From the CD.com chats:
Q: "Chinese Democracy" is awesome, but it's a pretty ballady album compared to previous GN'R albums. Is this the new direction of GN'R or will some of the future GN'R albums be more focused on hard-rocking songs again?
Axl: What I know is it's the record that was able to get through the red tape and get itself out there while helping friends, loved ones and myself along the way. The whole ballad or rocker thing has never been something I've ever cared too much about. There's some meaner sections ahead, but a particular focus once there were a few of the newer guys together was to bring a bit more beauty into our efforts.
It doesn't scream artistic agency to me.
Overall, it's a curious suggestion that CD2 (Stay of Execution?) would feature more politically/environmentally tinged lyrics. That's likely to cause issues. Procrastination is one thing, if you're the top dog, but having your views on the world slapped into a corporate product in plain English - that's actually a more unsettling prospect. In the far end, that's biting the hand that feeds.
Speaking of youth, moments like these made an impression in mine.
...and when the poor, come down from the hill, at night, and the government and the merchants sends the death squads out, to remove the beggar, keep them out of the way of the rich, to keeping the slums from coming down into the city, you gotta watch your ass homeboy, cause I haven't been to that many places, but do you know where you motherfuckers live? I said do you know where you live? You know where you are? You're in the jungle baby! Rio de Janeiro jungle baby! And I did you watch your ass! You gonna diiiiie!
I wouldn't think it'd be that overt but you know, past tendencies and such.

I like the song. It's like a coke fueled nightmare. Cool solo by Slash.
But I dislike most of UYI I because it feels like a band jam that Axl slapped vocals over.
I'm a big Double Talkin' Jive fan even though it's kind of an incomplete song. It has good pacing to it. Perfect Crime would've done well to slow it down at some point.

I'm always drawn to the trilogy concept.
I'm not sure GN'R fans pay enough attention to the thematic underpinnings of each album.
I wish someone smuggled track lists out of the studio back in the day.

Axl is Guns n Roses ffs. It’s time he started living up to his responsibility instead of playing house with Angus & cashing in with Nitl.
No argument from me here.
Gimme a break if Caram Costanzo can produce a song fuckin Axl Rose can.
If Axl can nail the production style, sound, and mix it be my guest but guys like Iggy (re)mixed their songs and turned something good (that Bowie mixed) and turned it into unlistenable garbage.
Caram and 6 years of Axl’s tweedle-dee procrasterbation did the same so I’m not exactly confident in the collective’s abilities.
I’d be remiss to mention the multi-thousand dollar game of “How many people does it take to buy a copy of Nevermind” they played too.

The best versions of CD songs are the Piazza / Trunk versions of TWAT and IRS which probably are from old paleface here so I tend to give the guy a pass.
Books, covers.

Axl likely doesn't have the production acumen to produce it himself and get what he wants.
It's one of the reasons why he re-recorded CD about 500 times.
They wanted the raw, live sound on Appetite and even though the songs were done and sounded great live how many producers/mixers did they go through? A small handful, at a minimum.
Greatest record ever.
Funny, I was just listening to that and thinking about how glorious the cover is.

Glen Campbell ftw.
+ Willie Nelson.
Rhinestone Cowboy seems like a dead ringer for a song Axl'd like. You might say Street of Dreams was influenced by it.

Pitman was jeopardizing their payday, Brain made an easy recommendation.
But yeah she is pretty much antithetical to Guns N' Roses.

Bummer, I wanted to see the real lineup.

The truth is that Chris Pitman is the hero of the story.
The Lusk album inspired the electro-funk wall of sound, as heard on the glorious 2002 tour
He's been inspiring Axl since 1998 when his french horn notes triggered the writing of Madagascar
He was working with Axl diligently on CD II
He nearly got this farce of a tour cancelled before it started
He's the hero we deserve but not the one Axl's wallet needs right now.
