I really don't understand this band at all.

They've now officially scraped the bottom of the incompetence barrel.

The Stones released the Angry vinyl within days of announcement....GNR/TB had 2 months and still wasn't enough time.

I'm sticking to my theory that sales are pure shit... regardless of them briefly claiming it was sold out....and they're going to delay it hoping for more sales. If sales don't increase, they'll shit can it.

The Perhaps single is already dead/old news and since no one but a few hundred people know of The General's existence, they'll get no blowback from pulling it.

If the goddamn thing was sold out, that first batch would already be on the way. Things that sell like hotcakes do not get delayed.

Yeah and I laughed like a hyena on crack when Axl himself referred to them as that.

I was one of those people. I was expecting a mind fuck like Slayer meets The Cure. Now that's real fire and ice.

I still don't like it although don't hate it to the extent I did back in the day.

Luckily my hopes for The General are nothing like they were in the 2000s. Like I mentioned earlier, at best it will be another Riad or Madagascar.

If it was on the level of peak Floyd like some used to believe, they wouldn't have sat on it for 20 years.

I assume you remember EFISH, Robman, and Tommie?

They're dead.

Some others died over the past 15 years but don't remember their names at the moment.

That's life... I also wonder what happened with lot of people from that era.
Who knows something about Madison... ?

She surfaced briefly right after the reunion on mygnr but quickly faded away.

I still haven't ordered it.

Two reasons..

I wanted to just buy it on a site like HDtracks even though the chances of a digital release appear slim.

While I do listen to vinyl occasionally, it's only iconic albums that sound amazing on vinyl..not new 7" singles that will more than likely have horrid production/mixing issues.

I should probably just break down and order the damn thing. Maybe they're waiting for sales to hit a potential number before giving it the green light.

#324 Re: The Sunset Strip » The Beatles to release “Now and Then”” » 87 weeks ago

Yep...this is it. Historic.

One final Beatles song. Not a massive Beatles fan but I'm definitely looking forward to this.

Had it not been for George Harrison shit canning the idea due to tensions with McCartney, this song would've been finished and released during the Anthology series in the late 90s.

Probably better that they waited. The technology is vastly superior to what it was at the time and they needed AI to save those Lennon vocals from a shitty quality demo.

Actually there's the other mythical song...the 14 minute Carnival of Light from 1967. Unlike Now and Then, this is artsy fartsy avant garde shit. The few who've heard it say it's basically  McCartney's own Revolution #9.

It's inexcusable that it never surfaced. So many Beatles fans have died over the decades who never got to hear it. It was almost released a couple times but would get vetoed by one of the group (Yoko, Harrison, Starr). Yoko probably vetoed it because McCartney hated Revolution 9 and fried to get Lennon to leave it off the White album.

McCartney should've just leaked the damn thing.

It'll probably come out when all of them are dead. No way in hell Apple sits on the final unreleased Beatles song even though it's just an instrumental.

KV pops up every now and then... usually when a song comes out.

younggunner wrote:

What are everyone's expectations of The General?

In my youth...my expectations were through the roof.

Now? Just expecting a decent song... somewhere between Riad and Madagascar quality, if we're lucky.

Thank God it's so close.

Holy shit....I was multitasking and thought you asked this question in the Stones thread.

16

I'll listen to this one tonight before bed.

Am I to surmise your lack of a review as disappointment James?

I only got to listen to it a couple times and then was gone all weekend. Mainly watched/read about the war since getting back.

Listened again today.

Best song...

Shocking that he hit one final home run. Didn't know he had it in him.

That and Sweet Sounds of Heaven are the main highlights.

Whole Wide World and Depending On You pretty good.

I'll say this though...it's definitely missing something Not just Charlie.

The backing vocals don't seem as distinctive as they do on most Stones albums. I'm also wondering how much if any AI was used because their vocals just seem too crisp for men in their 80s. Listen to a recent Keith interview...then listen to Tell Me Straight.

I need to listen more before fully judging it. More songs may stand out.

Right now I'll say...

Not as good as Steel Wheels or Voodoo Lounge...better than Babylon and Bigger Bang.

I still gotta listen to the new Waters album. Only heard it that first day.

He was just a quirky guy with a Fortus fetish.

For all the band & management mess ups they for sure have got better slowing down leaks. Song wise there's been nothing major of note since 2019. Wonder if they looked into who else may have storage lockers out there.

It's not the band/TB impacting leaks. It's the fact that the hoarders are keeping it in their circle and when they aren't....they're selling...not leaking.

I don't remember Beta being there at that time. Weird. My memory ain't what it used to be.

Mysteron was the big enchilada in the 2000s. Went quite a few rounds with him although we generally got along.

Fun fact (that you may already know):

Mysteron was an account shared by two people. We found this out many years later. It explained why he liked me half the time and didn't know who I was the other half. 16 Don't remember exactly who but one was a journalist.

tried to hide discussions about him away in sub forums. Hell, even discussions about GN’R and CD were being neutered and removed if you said the wrong thing…

Back around 2015 or so I got high and was in the mood for memory lane. I remembered this long crazy debate with ppbebe that went on for pages and days back in early 2006.

It was no longer there.

While there were various interactions with her still on the forum, that discussion was definitely gone and my post count looked different too (lower).

It was a discussion over that Slash-Beta-Axl-Weiland fiasco. I guess it's no surprise that it's gone.

Wtf!? Is it 2004 again?

Nothing beats the 2004-2008 forum era 9 .. ( or who knows maybe there will be more leaks or actual album releases)

Even if the rest of the vault leaked, it could never come close to how amazing that period was.

2005 was the peak of GNR forums...kinda funny since it was a dead year band wise. Each main forum had thousands of active members.

2006 was massive too. The decline started quickly.

The 2005 community deserved the Village Leaks and the 2006 community deserved the skwerl leak.

HTGTH was the best site on the entire net in the early-mid 2000s. It was so massive it had hundreds of active users who weren't even GNR fans.

BP is gone. No reason to stick around. He already had all the songs and wasn't the type who got off on rubbing it in people's faces.

Whatever happened to your friend Mr. Brownstone from CD.com? That dude just disappeared.
