Ahh if only they would listen to Ron and do something like this:
This line-up really should be releasing music. For years I've been vocal about my 'wish list', to have the band write one song before every leg of a tour - we hit the studio and bang out a song, we play that song live during that tour, then we do the same for the next leg of the tour. If we did that there would be a full album of music by now.
Let them create their own legacy!
This bit scares me:
if I write songs with GNR in the future, even better. I'd like to
These poor guys haven't even started writing new songs together???? I assume Axl has them reworking old Chinese songs if anything. Damn these musicians are being so underutilized.
The Bucket and Finck era stuff - just release it now and get the new guys to start with a clean slate. This sort of strategy should result in a shitload of new stuff being out there (chinese 2 plus brand new stuff) to really cement them as a new band in their own right.
I agree. Release the most session work they can find, compile it together with bonus material, and release it. Then start fresh with new songs with the current lineup. This is the best approach for Axl & the GNR name. So it looks like DJ and Axl, maybe Tommy are the only band members that have written material for the band as of right now. They could re-use alot of synth instrumentals or keyboard parts from Mother Goose and Dizzy from over the years. Ron has so much to give to the band and Axl seriously needs to take advantage of it. Same with DJ, Frank, and the others. That plan would work perfectly with the lineup's crazy touring schedule. Hoping he keeps talking to the guy about this idea cause it could help both the lineup become successful and make us fans so so happy! No one loses from this scenario. I would tell Axl to screw the record label. Put it out on just Black Frog. Don't worry about Interscope or Geffen. Fuck Azoff and other personal standing in the way. Use facebook, twitter, VH1 Classic to help promote it. There ya go. It may take a few years to fully pay off; but I WOULD SAY IT'S A PERFECT CRIME!!!

Hope that plan comes around. I think this band would kick so much ass playing that song. Bucket was having a blast playing it during Rio 3 in 01.

Yeah..out of the GNR catalog already, Yesterdays, Perfect Crime, and OMG would be perfect substitutes for some of the covers during the next few tours.

This is great news. At least most of the band members are trying to bust out some new material. Maybe they bust out Seven, Thyme, The General or Atlas perhaps?

He will spend the time before euro tour trying to get better from the injury and stop using drugs during shows. No studio time.
Caram and Axl chomped his solos on CD, most of them are pieces from various takes and he had to relearn them to play live.Thank you very much for rounding this up and posting here. Besides just being nice, I always like how direct Ron is about stuff. Dude pretty much tells fans everything he can which is pretty damn cool of him. As we've seen with past and current members of GN'R, they don't have to do that.
I have nothing but the up most respect for the guy. Ron's an awesome dude and guitarist. It's great that he is providing us with some information and back story on what's going on.
#3296 Re: Guns N' Roses » Advice on books about GN'R » 691 weeks ago
I might get back into reading Slash's book pretty soon. I was considering picking up Steven's book one day. Probably when it's at a low price. Axl said that he wrote a book a few years back on like a forum where he did a Q&A. Still waiting on that. lol I hear Watch You Bleed is good to an extent; but alot of reviewers say it has a ton of flaws with some of the book's content. Like they got some of the facts wrong and some dates & times are a little off. For instance, the book makes a reference to John Lennon's death for some reason and says 1984 instead of 1980 and other mixed up information.
I hear Duff's book from what I read on the internet that it covers alot of UYI tour stuff and also when Axl asks Slash & Duff to sign over the GNR name and copyright legal information.
Enjoy the good rock reading, Russ!

#3299 Re: Guns N' Roses » Greatest Hits at Number 3 on Billboard 200 » 691 weeks ago
Greatest Hits is a great way to get anybody into Guns. It helped me love some of the UYI songs a little more. Even though it is missing a good number of great GNR songs like Nighttrain, Rocket Queen, Estranged, Dead Horse, My Michelle or Perfect Crime. If a person is looking for some great rock n' roll at a good price, look no further in my opinion.

Personally I choose Babystep and pose with Slash. Let's see this celebration go out with a high note with smiles. If it comes to Axl & Slash getting in a room together and speaking then that would be great. They could maybe become better people and "friends" out of this scenario. Who knows? I highly doubt a performance is going to come out of this; but just have most of them talking again would be just fine. Last minute spur of the moment jam could be a rare possibility. Separate speeches or rants may go on during the induction ceremony. xD As for new music, I do hope Axl releases the stuff in the vaults one day in next few years and then moves forward with either the current band or a reunion lineup. I would love to see an album with Bumble and DJ's riffs and ideas with the rest of the guys. Only a few weeks to go till the induction.
