I guess that makes them the greatest band of the 80's cause they are the only "hair" metal that has never died and is just as popular today.

Just listening to old school Guns today and I can pretty much tell why this CD is under performing
If anyone hasn't seen the Making of Death Magnetic let me tell u a nice little comparison:
Lars is producing Kirk's guitar solo on the song "End Of The Line" I think it is.
Anyhow, Kirk has recorded 2 separate solos.
Lars listens to them both and he comments on the first one and how it sounds like a guy sitting in a room by himself away from the band and composing and constructing note for note exactly what he should play
Whereas the 2nd is a more organic , spontaneous solo that is lively and sounds like it evolved from the song.
The 2nd one is chosen of course.
anyhow, CD reminds me of that little anecdote. CD sounds like an album recorded by 10 different guys at 10 different times with no chemistry. the music is almost so perfectly thought out it doesn't breathe. I said it sounds like a Meat Loaf album *nothing wrong with that* but it sounds like music Celine Dion or Meat Loaf would sing over at times.
It just doesn't have that spontaneous, group vibe to it.
I recommend anyone who has forgotten how great GNR were to go put on a little "coma" or Locomotive
that is what a tight, chemistry filled organic sound is.

Yeah, I admit, I listen to Sorry and This I love every once in a while now but I am pretty much bored of it.
I am actually listening to old GNR right now and still loving it after 17 years. Dont Damn Me eats Chinese Democracy rocker's souls!

The only reason I am reaching for the panic button is the fact that Axl is nowhere to be found.
Its funny how we all do the same shit like we've done for the last 7 years.
Anytime Axl is gonna appear.................. yeah.......... just wait.......... anytime now
Oh now for sure.............. and it never happens.
Also, I just don't hear any song on this CD that is gonna be a crossover sensation to catapult this through the stratosphere........ the songs are great but none of them have that "IT" thing that u can say "I can see everybody wearing that shit out.
I just don't hear it on CD.

I could take GNR as a real band if the fucking members didn't have more side projects than I have fingers and toes.

I've been reading alot of these dying breed people, hanging on to the old "Axl doesn't owe us" shtick all over the community.
They're out there, making posts talking about the same shit they have for years, and even I used to be one of them at one time, 'til it dawned on me (probably around 2006), that I am a paying customer. And no Axl doesn't owe me music, products or money... but he owes me RESPECT.
And that's the one thing that Axl has never done. He expects respect to be given to him, because he's W. Axl Rose, lead singer of Guns N' Roses. He expects his fans to respect him, simply because they are fans.
Not true.
Respect is something you earn, and he's never once attempted to care or earn it on any level.
Then you've got people that sit back, and just lie to themselves like the battered and abused wife, continue to make excuses for the guy, and talk about how he doesn't owe anyone.
Who's truely clueless? Who's truely delusional? Axl or the fans?
When do you reach that point, when you say this guy doesn't respect his fans, and never has, and call a spade a spade?
I love the man as an artist, I love CD, I am happy to have CD, but to expect me or anyone else to jade themselves to this troubling release, or expect me to sit back, over 15 years and talk about how much Axl loves his fans... you've got to be fucking kidding me.
I know this is going to sound gay, but alot of my strong posts over the past week, have been related to the fact that I loved the man so much, and yes at one time - he was a hero (I was a kid)... and after all this shit, all the stuff I took and accepted his disrespect of fans (no info, no shows, disrespect for former members, or in his world, former employees) I pushed to the side, and defended him 'til my throat was sore. I've now officially turned on him. Completely. So that's why the posts seem so venom-filled.
What I don't understand, at this point, is how any of these self-hatin' GN'R fans, continue to sell THEMSELVES short, and accept this abuse. Continue to defend a man, who couldn't care less about them. Why? Just ask yourself that. Why?
We're here for GNR's... MUSIC. But as far as Axl's treatment of his fans, don't ask me to bend at the ankles, smile, and ask for nightcap.

I made a thread at HTGTH about 5 years ago titled "GNR Fans have battered wife syndrome"
and it didnt get deleted back then!
I've said that for years. Its the only sort of band/fan relationship where the fans feel honored to be a fan instead of the way it should be.

There are albums that have had bigger first week sales than this not go platinum.
Sure maybe in a few years
