I am calling it a failure just based on what AC/DC and Metallica did first week.
they were in the high 6 figures.
CD is this mythical supposed long awaited album and its way below expectations and not just in the US
Sorry if I offend any foreigners, but when u can't debut number one in Europe, thats a bad sign.
Didn't Metallica debut number 1 in like double digit countries?
Im not mad at CD the album is fantastic to me.
I am pissed at the usual unprofessionalism and total lack of a plan by GNR

Yeah but Gene has never tried to be anything else. Kiss has been a brand and a business since day one. It isn't like he just started that once their career hit its downslide.

I agree with that neemo BUT most bands start promotion 2 months before their album drops, not 2 weeks AFTER
AMA's was another hugely missed opportunity.

The album overall is better than the Illusions BUT this album doesn't have a November Rain or Estranged or Coma or even a You Could Be Mine
VR's rockers are better than GNR's rockers.
Seriously, Slither eats and shits out Rhiad,CD and whatever else.
The ballads are great but Im not sure any of them will cross over and be mega successful. I wish they'd try with THis I Love....we will see.
That would work with a really awesome video.
U know, I am back negative as fuck and it is only because of the piss poor way all of this has been handled.
we should've known back in 2002 though when Axl fucked up the most opportune comeback moment, that nothing would ever go smooth.
If Axl looked and sounded like he does now and did the 2002 VMA's and released CD a few months later, It would've been HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Releasing CD as the first single was as stupid as u can get from an organization and shows how Axl's Ego and delusions are out of control.
The song has a fucking minute intro, no HOOK and is an average song at best.
This is 2008!!!!!!!!!! People don't give u many chances. First impressions are everything and surprise surprise, Axl dropped the ball with this turd of a single.
The album isn't very radio friendly and nothing on here will be a hit.
This record bombs. it won't even go platinum I bet cause like James pointed out, u take away the multiple copies all of the GNR fanbase bought, and this thing may have sold 150k tops.
Album sells drop off, they don't increase from week to week unless u hit that big lightning in the bottle single.
CD doesn't have that single. There are tons of great songs I resonate with, but when I listen objectively, i hear nothing that would crossover to the masses.
NO promotion and no interviews no videos. Just fucking pathetic and embarrassing.
Bring on the reunion. I am ready.

U are missing a huge point though. For Axl to be validated in keeping the GNR name, he had to come out with a huge hit. Seeing as VR will outsell Chinese Democracy, have bigger hits "Slither/FTP" and they didn't have an already set Brand name, I think this is a big sign to Axl that he ISNT Guns N Roses.
The album is good but people are really pissed about the band not being the real band.
I've been on some non music websites and people are trashing the fuck out of Axl and the album.

No drumming on the UYI and certainly CD come close to touching what Adler laid down on AFD.
the drumming on CD is nothing good at all. It is a beat but there is nothing at all great or memorable about the drumming on CD.
AFD u can fucking air drum that shit. His drumming is almost melodic. The dude plays hooks on drums. I haven't heard many drummers do that.
So technical wise he isnt that great, but he sure can drum his ass off and come up with memorable, hooky beats.
that is rare in music to find a drummer who does that.
