I just think the guitar solo is too high on the outro of Catcher....actually, I would take the majority of the solo out and just let Axl's voice and basic rhythm guitar take us home.
I have said since day one my issue was not with Brian May solo being removed but the clashing outro. When you listen to the May version suddenly you realise that for much of the outro its just Axl's vocals driving the song, the new version has too much going on too soon, and it absolutely detracts from the beautiful vocals.
And I could live without Pitmans techno bassline on ITW, especially as all it does is drown out Stinson.

Seriously though, I got caught up in the moment.
Haha a little but it's not like I blame ya, I'd have been the same, you were talking to Axl Rose, it's not an every day thing. I did laugh at one of your questions though 'Axl what would you consider a true GNR fan?' Lol it would have put the cat among the pigeons if he'd answered that one
A little dig at Jarmo
Hey, I couldn't completely sell out!
If you really wanted to dig him you should have said "fan", and what I mean by "fan" is:
"Main Entry: 1fan
Pronunciation: \ˈfan\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English fann, from Latin vannus — more at winnow
Date: before 12th century
1: any of various devices for winnowing grain
2: an instrument for producing a current of air: as a: a device that is held in the hand and moved back and forth to cool a person and that is usually shaped like a segment of a circle and composed of material (as feathers or paper) mounted on thin rods or slats moving about a pivot so that the device may be closed compactly when not in use b: a device that consists of a series of vanes radiating from a hub rotated on its axle by a motor cslang : an airplane propeller
3 a: something resembling an open fan b: a gently sloping fan-shaped body of detritus ; especially : alluvial fan
— fan·like \-ˌlīk\ adjective "
Seems to me that "these so called fans..." - dont know a current of air from a series of vanes radiating from a hub.

The volume of the vocals and guitars are increased in the outro of Catcher, ruining my enjoyment of the drumming
They used genuine french horns for the album version of Maddy, this means the driving synthesizer horn rhythm we are used to on the live versions, is much softer and not as dominant on the album version.
I find them very beautiful, so no complaints here

LOL!! Shout out on the official website, thats fucking awesome!
I wonder if its anything to do with the moral outrage many here felt with the other citation the official site used - the one that lambasted the former members as ruining Axls vision for the Illusions.
Either way its another simple gesture that means a lot to some fans
Just goes to show that this site does not go unnoticed, and you can be sure thats not down to popularity, but overall quality. I love this site, it reminds me of how it used to be when I first went online in 2000 - no heirarchy or ego's!
2 high profile shout outs in one day.....
'Hasta la Victoria, siempre!'

Honestly I think the song order is not laid out as well as it should be. I listened to the album last night, in my own order, and it was a much better experience.
I was a successful local techno dj for 6 years and I know well how fluctuate the highs and lows of a listening experience. For the record, I believe the way the GNR live set has been arranged in the past has been perfect, it peaked and dipped at the right times.
I;m not trying to be boastful, I'm just saying I dont think the album arangement sits together for maximum effect. To my ears the first and last songs were specifically selected and the rest were just thrown together.
Song arrangement plays a huge role in keeping the listener captivated.

Sorry if this has been posted, but I just got to the end of my Chinese Democracy pullout that came with Classic Rock Magazine and the closing statement reads:
"For a full, year by year, breakdown of GN'R from 1993-2008, visit www.gnrevolution.com"
Karma for GNREvolution!!

Yes its ok for those who havnt bought the album, but for some who have bought it, to get the whole experience they have to buy the proper version thats coming out a few months after the launch.
Lets not forget what album this is "the most anticipated album of all time", 15 years and umpteen million dollars in the making.
The booklet was shameful. I pity you guys who have got loads of albums full of such errors because out of my collection I have a few minor errors in total.
I'm just of a viewpoint where, they knew the things were fucked but sold them anyway to the people who care most about the band and I strongly believe thats wrong.
I'll put it another way. I have autism and one of they ways I find deep enjoyment in my life is by listening to music, I spend hours happily sitting with my headphones on, or with the stereo on, engrossing myself in the music I love. I sit with the booklet reading along with unfamiler songs as I cant always grasp whats being said due to processing difficulties.
I would never have been able to get the joy I do out of the Illusions without the booklet, I had it on copied tapes for years and never had full appreication of some of the more complex songs for years on a lyrical level simply because its too much for me to take in on an auditory level.
The melodies however were powerfully evocative enough for me to love the albums deeply. I used to skip Locomotive because I couldnt keep up, however since I got the album on cd and could fully understand what the hell he was saying, its one of my all time favourites. It also takes me ages to learn the words even with the bloody booklet.
So for me to buy Chinese Democracy afters years of excitement, sit down with the booklet, turn up the volume and try to follow along - it was a very big disapointment (even though I had fore warning the booklet wasnt much different to the leaked one).
It was more than dispointment, it actually hurt. I dont even know where my booklet is because after a few attempts of trying to grin and bare it, I chucked it to the side and havnt went back to it.
There are much more disadvantaged people than me who rely on the lyrics to help them enjoy an album and they shouldnt be taken for granted. It wasnt just a couple of simple typos, honestly I would have valued the booklet more if they just left the lyrics out completely, it was that bad.
Also the attitude of the admin and cohorts at HTGTH who denied people the right to discuss the booklet and more or less said "shut the fuck up and stop your fucking whining, you should be be grateful you even got a fucking album" was a big disapointment for me as well, since that website has such a strong affiliation with Guns N'Roses and is often a platform for their viewpoint. That hurt.
Basically what I'm trying to illustrate is that people who are fans of the band come in all shapes in sizes and not every voice that utters desent is a whining bitch complaining just to be difficult.

No but it was put out regardless. It was put out faulty with people knowing it was so, and knowing that updated one would be released. Thats taking advantage of people in my book and I feel strongly about such things. Its not a grudge against Axl Rose but the entire Guns N'Roses infrastructure. I know he doesnt have a problem with me not buying the reissue, I'm just a drip in the ocean.
(its a bit late in the game for artistic integrity when you have already generated a nice income after selling your "art")
