Slash's solos in NR and Estranged were certainly not trying to be AFD part II

Slash also wrote Coma and Locomotive. Once again, Hardly trying to be AFD part II

I think this "Axl wanted to expand" while the other members wanted to play the same thing is bullshit.

Have u heard Oh My God and Shackler's? I can understand why Slash and Co. didn't want to try and be something they arent.

The worst thing u can do is jump trends and try to do whats "IN" That to me is what Axl was trying to do by going all Industrial and NU Metal. So I applaud the orginal members for stickin to their guns and not tryin to follow the new thing.

U are Guns N Roses, u are trend setters, not trend chasers. Axl always seemed kind of like a poser to me in a lot of ways. His Nirvana T Shirt, his Chili Pepper shirt, always talking about NWA and 2 live crew like he's cool cause he likes rap music...........

GN'R's sound on Appetite was NOT trend-setting. Nor was the sound on Use Your Illusion trend-setting. Those two (technically three) albums were heavily influenced by 1970's hard rock and classic rock like AC/DC, Aerosmith, Queen, and Elton John. Hardly trend-setting.

And a little news for you. "November Rain" is from before Slash was even in the band. Axl is the one who wrote it. Slash came up with a solo to fit the song. It's a fucking great solo. But it's not like Axl was writing lyrics and melodies to fit Slash's guitar parts on that song. It was the other way around. And judging by Velvet Revolver and Slash's Snakepit albums, I would say that YES, Slash wanted to keep pumping out the same old, same old.

Dude, who doesn't know that song was way before there was even a GNR? U aren't breaking any news, but he was still able to write one of the greatest solos in music history  over it. Not a bad feat for some guy who wants to stay the same.

Also, SCOM is not like anything nor is Jungle. I think u are just slanting stuff to try and fit your argument.

So would u rather be an AC/DC, Aerosmith, Queen, Led Zeppelin  band? Or an Elton John, NIN, Pink Floyd, White Zombie band?

there isn't a wrong answer but Appetite was ground breaking and still is great 20 years later, I can't say CD won't sound dated 2 years from now.

U are wrong about Slash and Co. Snakepit was a side project. VR are vastly underrated.

Slither is an awesome fucking song, so is YGNR, Sucker Train Blues, Fall To Pieces and Headspace all written in abou 6 months.

U act like Slash can't play anymore at all.

I have a feeling, his solo album will be a nice shut the hell up to all the naysayers.

what u don't realize is, u have to write to fit your lead singer. Scott's limited range etc, made it hard for Slash who had to dumb his guitar down in a lot of ways.

Also, u guys keep making it out like Slash and CO left over musical differences and that was only a very small part of it. They left due to a lack of respect from Axl and Axl making them sign over the name and coming on stage so late etc.

I definitely will not support a song that has any sort of old band bashing.

The new members thing is sort of a double edged sword. While I have nothing against new members here, I do get the points that a certain percentage of them are here ONLY to get new songs. They care nothing about the site or its members. Those types are definitely a drag. The least they could do is help out others looking for the songs. Having said that, since they came here looking for something, the site is etched into their conscience. The next time something happens and its censored at the other sites, they'll think, 'Oh I remember that site called GNRevolution where they didn't wallow in propaganda'. So they come back, and maybe tell a few others about the site.

Also, all new members cant really be lumped into that category. Some of them have  probably been lurking for a long time. Some people love reading posts but don't like posting themselves. Hell, I used to be one of those types in the early years of this decade. So if they want to hear a song that's out, their only way to do so is by signing up and asking somebody. Maybe this person gives the site a chance and starts posting, or they go back to just reading what's posting here. I certainly have no problems with those types.

Also, one of the 'noobs' might wind up becoming an active member of the community, and could possibly be someone you know at another site that's using a different name here. I try not to judge someone just because they've never posted before.

I understand the frustration of sending out tons of PMs each time a song surfaces, but you cant really lump all the 'noobs' into the same category.

I also understand(and agree with) giving active members you know top priority when it comes to music. If something comes out, I'll give it to people like madagas, Bri, axlin08, jimmythegent, etc. before I'll give it to Joe Blow from Scranton who just signed up three seconds ago. Links die pretty quickly, and the people who are contributing members deserve first crack at those links.

Great post James.

At first, I only came here for the leaks. I'd post here and there but I wasn't a regular.  Since CD has a release date etc, I am now a full fledged dedicated member and will be for the duration.

I think everyone here is doing a great job managing things.

I have yet to hear "SOrry and Scraped and I don't mind waiting 2 more weeks.

I don't know why honestly, everyone doesn't want to just wait 2 weeks to hear it in all its glory?

On Catcher the intro is a complete clusterfuck with that bass line and the outro solo is just too "Happy" sounding. I like the gloom, hopeless feeling of Catcher.

Got Catcher and shock shock I hate the guitar solo at the end.

Doesn't elevate the song emotionally at all.

The last part of Catcher is amazing on Axl's part but that guitar solo......... Is that Bumble? not sure but its horrible.

I honestly don't think u can judge too much off of the first single. The Curiosity alone was gonna make it a hit on the radio.
I still don't get the fascination with TWAT.

The lyrics and arrangement are Terrible on that song.

He simply can't win. *cues up Sorry and stops reading inane posts on a message board.*

Is this the standard "Poor Axl" speech? Everyone bashes poor Axl, he can't do anything to make us happy thing?
I don't know why people are so negative when all he has ever done is respect and appreciate his fans speech?:bs:

Yes Tyler but maybe thats cause these songs are lacking.

I personally have never gotten tired of Coma or Estranged. I still get a charge out of WTTJ and SCOM. RQ is still my fave Appetite song.

Brownstone isn't old, Its So Easy, Nightrain etc.

U know why? Those songs are COMPLETE

These GNR songs are very fucking unbalanced. The level of talent in the band doesn't come close to equaling the level of talent of Axl therefore you have Axl's parts at 10/10 for the most part whereas the band and the music rarely squeak past 6/10 musically
This I Love will be my example for years to come. you put a great guitar solo on that track and it is a 10/10

The solo instead makes it around an 8.5/10 or so cause it drags it down. NR for instance, that solo you fucking listen to on its own like it is an individual song and every motherfucker in the world can hum that fucking thing.

I remember at work one day, NR came on the radio. 2 hours later, everyone was humming the last solo, not the vocal melodies.

U don't get that much with CD. Axl is great but musically it lacks and that is why I get tired of it.

Prostitute for example. Lyrically, melodically, emotionally it is a masterpiece

For some reason, I just get tired of it cause the music is generic for the most part.

I still think "IF The World" has the best chance of being a smash. It sounds classic.
