A thought - I don't know much about record releases and how they usually go - but wouldn't promotion throughout the (USA) Thanksgiving week and weekend, when someone can run and get the record, be better than promotion now, when... they can't buy the album?
Best Buy must be running things in America, and I think they're just tying it to their normal Thanksgiving-go-crazy-shopping thing, with lots of attention throughout the Holiday season. Who cares if there's posters out right now. People have a limited attention span. I don't think Axl wants to wear his welcome, and he doesn't want to be a media whore, I think he'll do whatever he needs to do at the right moment. Standing outside with your dick in the wind right now saying 'my record is coming out' doesn't help. We'll see what happens in the week of the release.
Just devil's advocate.
I don't see any wrong opinions on the subject. What you said is very plausible and maybe CD doesn't need a shit load of press. I certainly am not the pulse of the world, so I don't know the anticipation or how many people are aware of this.
I do look for an Axl interview in the DEC Rolling Stone or something. Sooner or later he is going to have to clear the air on everything.
I wish He'd do it on a bonus DVD or something included with the album. Have one of those Kurt Loder style MTV interviews he did before UYI's came out.

For me, CD seems like the movies that arent pre-screened.
They do it, cause they don't want bad reviews to spoil the debut and make it a flop.
With CD, I think Axl doesn't want to talk cause he doesn't want to be asked about the old band.
With CD, if u don't sell the single on Itunes, more fans will request it on the radio since they can't buy it thus making the chart number higher.
We pretty much know now, this album could've came out shortly after the VMA's.
I think had the VMA's and the following tour hadn't been such a cluserfuck, we would've had CD in Nov 2002 or Spring 03 at the latest.
I still believe that VMA and that tour to half empty arenas scared Axl back into hiding.

IF they want this album to succeed, Prostitute will be the next single.
I fucking hate "Better' It for me is the most annoying GNR song ever.

Which Itunes can u buy it on? It certainly isn't available on mine yet
WTF is up with that? no Itunes the day it hits radio?
Once again, is this to defraud and make people request it on the radio since they can't buy it?

Nope
Here is the real reason and I am going to sound like a real hater but I don't give a shit at this point.
Axl is basically trying to "Fraud" the public into buying Chinese Democracy.
He isn't giving any interviews or doing any press because he doesn't want the general public to know that the old band isn't on this album.
he wants to sell it as "Guns N Roses" If casual people find out it isn't really Guns N Roses, they may not be as apt to buy it.
Just like with all the tours and shit. It was never promoted as a new band, it was just Guns N Roses with no pic or anything. Its why they still sell old GNR shit online.
He wants to fool people who don't know.
People on GNR forums are the most dilusional fans ever. They really believe that the world knows about this album and the new members etc but they dont. I had several people I am friends with that saw GNR in concert and were shocked to find no old band. They had no clue.

I always find it funny how tons of people say the same thing about Axl but his apologists always spin it like those people are Liars and are trying to "hurt' him.
Bullshit.
But, Crazy makes great art.

I have stated for years that the reason the album took so long was basically Axl having to make Diamonds out of shit. The new band really weren't producing good enough material and Axl basically took years tryin to mold and whip average music into shape.
U hear it on CD.
I've learned in a lot of my years in music, that most casual/everyday listeners are more vocal/melody/beat/lyric people. Which is why music u hear today is top of the charts when in reality its one synth line repeated over and over.
I love music, guitar riffs *See Death Magnetic* intricate guitar solos THAT MEAN SOMETHING and various changeups in styles.
With CD there really aren't any changes in the songs. Prostitute sort of is like one big verse
IRS is one big verse with a few choruses but musically or stylistically, Bettter and If The World are really two that come to mind that really have that GNR diversity within the songs.

CD is great.
If you think of these songs collectively and think of listening them all for the first time n the correct sequence instead of the bits and pieces and shit demos we've had over the years, it ranks right up there for me.
It is different though. Ucan't compare it to AFD cause stylstically there is nothing similiar at all to it.
I always looked at Appetite as being a "Band" thing and UYI's on were more Axl's vision with the piano's more ballads etc.
This is the vision I say axl has had since the beginning and it is magnificent for the most part.
I just get bummed at the guitar solos at times and lack of really outstanding riffs.
The songs though as a whole are great.

2 copies of the CD one for me, one for my Girlfriend, and then LP

Axl being the "perfectionist" and taking 13 years and allowing this to be the final solo on his baby? his song for Stephanie?
It just doesn't make sense. Id rather there not even be a guitar solo than that travesty.
Just keep it Piano and Axl, no solo at all.
