Been reading the site a bit tonight, and your reviewer Wes must have an alternate cut of Friday the 13th part VIII that I haven't seen. The gore is nonexistent to the point where the film could have literally received a PG rating, and there's zero nudity in the film(that I remember).
Kelly Hu should have been nude at least once. Talk about a missed opportunity. It was early in her career and she probably would have done it.
There's nudity in the part on the ship where the one chick is with the principal. I think there's also a tit pic right in the review. We like to exploit... I mean, showcase the female anatomy as much as possible.
The gore, I'm sure he gave it a 3/5 for gore... it's sort of the rating we give a movie that doesn't have at least one really out there kill but has more than just a bit of blood here and there. Been a while since I've seen Jason Takes Manhattan, but there's a very comic beheading as well. 4/5 on the Carnage Count are where the real blood shedders lie.

faldor wrote:Sorry to continue the off topic theme, but I think the guitar solos in TWAT stand up to ANYTHING Slash has ever pulled off. And I still am not convinced song 2 is "Prostitute".
To have one last say on TWAT.
The solo is good, almost great but it just doesnt quite take me there.
Prince use to say that a guitar solo was like giving a woman an Orgasm. u build and build and build until the climax. TWAT gets like right there but it doesnt take u all the way. Its like a chick stopping abruptly just as and :bj: never happens.
For me, the difference is, Slash doesn't have a singer to inspire him to the heights he had in GNR but on the same token, I don't feel any of the GNR guitarist can match Axl's vocals emotionally enough and Slash's guitar was the equal emotional wise to Axl's voice which is what made it so magical.
I think that's the best analogy anyone can give. Slash and Axl worked so well together that everyone else just comes up short and I think that's unfair all around to them, but it's still valid because we've heard the fruits of them coming together and being the best band in the world; in history to me. I think the leaks are great, but there's a hint of something missing, the extra mile that a player like Slash can come up with and the emotion he can bring. But, hey, let's not forget that without Izzy, we're not really sure how Axl and Slash would have written together in a final product.

Just no one that sounds anything like Weiland. I want someone who can screech a bit. I always found the pairing of Slash and Weiland just odd. I don't think he did anything to make Slash's playing any better. In GNR, Axl's vocals really brought me into the music (and his lyrics) and vice versa, but Weiland just reminds me of some worm on the mic.
I still like VR enough.
I agree...i actually like Scott's voice and some VR and STP songs a hell of a lot...but that said...it was never a good match for Slash's playing I think.
The problem is Slash wants someone with a ot of musicallity to their voice...which is why he didn't like Josh Todd from buckcherry. Too much of the yelling all in the same key.
the problem is scott does the musical singing but nothing else.
What we need is him to find someone like Axl - who is very musical with his own harmony parts and all that but also has a bad ass screaming or intensity ability. Which was why i thought baz would have been a good choice...because he can "sing" a ballad...or he can scream your balls off...but I can see that baz is limited in that he has a very distinctive sound that would give things a skid row flavour. But we need someone like that...musical but with some rage too!
That's one thing I'm definitely against, some asshole who just screams all the time for the hell of it. I think Baz, regardless of "Skid Roses" jokes, is the ideal fit. I realize Slash wants a really musical voice and I can really understand that and I think he does require it, but the type of rock he brings to the table, to me anyways, requires a very distinct singer. And I think if you can't get a guy like Baz, it's just not going to work as well as it could. Like I said on here somewhere earlier, I would take Izzy and Duff singing in a van tour over Scott VR; but that's a major "hit" to the music as a whole. Scott does have better range and all that, which is to be expected from a big rock group like VR. I just don't think his voice suits the music. That's what's important. It's like half the time I listen to VR and I'm impressed as fuck, whenever Weiland's vocals suit the music. Set Me Free, Slither, Fall to Pieces, She Builds Quick Machines, are great for his vocals, but then others it just seems out of place. Basically, his voice is good for some hits, not so good for the meat of the album. So Fine or 14 Years or Double Talkin' Jive without Axl on the vocals are the songs that cement great albums because the songs were right for Duff or Izzy.
Sort of like Vince Neil on the new Crue Album, yeah, he's that typical "80s singer", but he changes his voice up just enough so it's not gratingly 80s (not that I personally have a problem with that, but I know it's a major issue for most). It's like meeting in the middle. A bit of a modern voice with the old stuff culminating in something that compliments the music. If only Saints of Los Angeles was a better album as a whole, but I digress. What I did dig about Weiland was his sort of deep-ish voice he'd sing in (ie: "your little secret will be safe with me"; Axl-ish in a way), but there was no badass Steven Tyler, Robert Plant, etc... style singing to counter that. I know Vince Neil isn't the greatest example, but it should be a decent enough attempt at an explanation. I guess it's just a matter of knowing where you're going but not forgetting where you've been. The music is like that, just not the vocals.

Axl's pretty intrspective... better make it The Seventh Seal.

It'll be cool to see when you get yours up, I always like to see new ones. If it's a review site and you've never put up a site before, shoot me a pm if you want some day-to-day tips that will save you a lot of headaches. The stuff I've learned in the last six months would have been so valuable to me should I have known things back then. Needless to say I'm surprised I've ran into a few horror fans on this forum already, definitely not what I expected.
And, I'm not saying we don't receive a few free DVDs, but there's a difference between reviewing screeners and selling your soul/having a goal that's to be some insider site. There's nothing more I hate than when a reviewer covers a movie they have no interest in because they got it for free or they see something non-horror, but still niche genre coming out and review it on their horror sites because they can get it for nothing.
Mr. Disgusting's recent funny folly to me was when he complained that the vampires in Lost Boys 2 all died differently; he actually used that as a negative in his review. I guess he missed Feldman's speech in both the original and the sequel about how no suckmonkey goes the same way.

Welcome everyone.
Never heard of that horror site, Brett. I'll have to check it out, although I mainly just lurk at the horror sites I go to.
I just started it back in February. It's hell getting a foot in the door in the horror community because the internet's been watered down with so many of them. Then there's a lot of sites that sell out for free DVDs and studio contacts, which is not something I am interested in.
Hope you like it and let me know what you think of it.
And, thanks for the welcome, Jack!

... but have come to the reality that the new music has gone in a direction that slash could never follow. had he been willing to play in a three guitarist set he'd probably still be in the band tearing into the blues but that didn't happen.
I would much rather have Slash play what he has in his heart than doing what Tommy Lee did. Music can go in a different direction, but do you hear many people praising musical output in general these days? My only real concern with VR's work is that Scott Weiland isn't my type of singer. Seeing as we're in 2008 waiting for Chinese Democracy still, I don't think it was in Slash's best interests to stay in the band. It's not like Axl has the next Bohemian Rhapsody in the cards, as much as I enjoy the leaks (and I do very much).
The excuse of Slash not being able to keep up with the times has always been moot to me, because I don't view music as a timed affair. If it's not timeless, it's most likely not worth listening to. I don't mean timeless in the sense that it's not a grandiose affair or a true classic, but the sound has to be something that can be enjoyed for a long time or it's most likely a flash in the pan pop single or the rock-rap crap that everyone liked as 13 year olds but none of us will touch as adults.
Plus, if Axl's idea of keeping up with the times is to release an album every 15 years...

#340 Re: Guns N' Roses » GNR's 'Democracy' To Be Retail Exclusive? » 880 weeks ago
If he goes Best Buy exclusive; well in Canada Best Buys (and their affiliate, Future Shop) are pretty sparse. The nearest copy of Chinese Democracy would be two hours away from me. Hopefully if it's exclusive, it's Walmart. As long as they don't censor it, but I'm not sure if they do that anymore... they have R-rated/unrated DVDs. That doesn't mean anything really, but it would be some hypocrisy.
