Ironic. A 15 year old tune sounding incomplete. Axl truly can't do anything as it's supposed to. Always out there, challenging the norm.

Well...there are 13 other solos, so what the heck.

Yeah but This I Love is MY song. Ive wanted tohear this for 15 years and it is one of the best GNR songs ever

Seriously

that isn't hyperbole, that isn't being a prisoner of the moment. I honestly think its the best ballad on the album and vocally it pisses all over anything Axl has done.

The guitar solo though??????????????????

Horrible

one of the worst solos I have ever heard in my life and it truly fucks up an all time classic.

U look at November Rain which this song COULDVE surpassed with the proper guitar

without the guitar solos, that song wouldn't be half as good as it is.

This I Love screams......... absolutely screams for guitar melodies and a heartcrushing solo.

I get to the climax, the solo comes in and I yell the word "FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK' at that part cause this song deserves an amazing solo.

I'm really curious to hear This I Love in particular and to see how the solo stacks up compared to what others say it needs - i.e. a Slashesque type solo.  Also given the fact this is probably one of the oldest songs and bridges the gap between the old and new band both having worked on it.

Oh well not too many more sleeps to go (I hope I don't die in the meantime).

U are probably going to be disappointed. I am

I love "this I Love' till the guitar solo and it sucks.

This song is so fucking beautiful and amazing, one of my fave GNR songs EVER

It reminds me of a NR type demo with just Axl and a Piano.  The guitar solo is dreadful.

Its dreadful only because of the epic level of this song. Its probably the most heartfelt and emotional I've ever heard Axl sing and the solo just doesn't come close to matching Axl's voice.

Once again for the bashers, Im not saying the new band sucks other than Fincks lead guitar abilities.

The songs are incredible, lyrically, vocally, melodically and bucket's solos are well done

Axl's vocals, lyrics, melodies are better than 95 percent of original GNR stuff.

However, the guitar is really lacking on these songs.

This I love was my masterpiece, my Estranged for the 21st century and it is with Axl's parts but that solo...................................... very disappointing.

This I Love seems incomplete. Like Estranged if it didn't have the guitar melodies and the 2nd part.

I never said anything about Slash should be back in the band.

I simply stated, that they try so hard to fill Slash's shoes, that they try to 'Show Off" instead of serving the song.

Okay Bumble and Bucket, u can play 55 notes in 4 seconds. COOL, I get it and its great but sometimes all I want is a nice simple, heart breaking, haunting guitar melody to accompany Axl's vocals.

Compare This I love solos to NR's Solos

U can't argue that shit.

So u guys missed the boat on my argument about filling Slash's shoes. I am saying they try so hard to show their skill, they don't always do what's best for the song.

A great example is Poison's "Something To Believe In"  Nice heartfelt beautiful song and then CC Deville comes in and breaks out a solo that just has nothing to do with the flow or emotion of the song and its just a jackoff look how technical and great and fast I can move my fingers.

Gene Simmons said it best. I'll take a simple A chord that breaks your ribs over a million little notes that sounds like a bunch of angry bees.

A lot of CD sounds like it could be a Meat Loaf album with Axl on vocals.

Once again, that isn't a bad thing, it isn't a diss. But the guitar parts really really lack for the most part.

the best riff on the album is what???? I havent heard Sraped or Sorry yet

but there are no Jungles, SCOM's, PC's or Brownstones or Rocket Queen riffs on here

The dude a couple pages back hit it on the head, Finck is like fucking without an orgasm. he just doesn't do it for me.

It has nothing to do with my love of Slash, all I can do is post, be honest and tell u how I feel emotionally about this stuff and it just doesn't full deliver.

listen to "Wet Sand" by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Frusciante's solo is what I love in bands. it just takes a great song and smashes it through the ceiling.

For me, it seems at times, the new guitar players try so hard to prove they belong and can fill slash's shoes, that they go too over the top. Like Finck for instance. He will play a nice sounding solo and then he tries to get too fancy and trips over his fingers and it just goes to shit *see Catcher*

Shredding when a nice melodic line would be amazing, missed opportunities to have great little licks/melodies

few solos that are singable which is what really attracted me to GNR in the first place.

This I Love is PRIME and ready and begging for an amazing singable melodic heartcrushing guitar solo.......... instead we get what sounds like a 16 year old praciticing bends...........

What also made GNR special to me was how the guitar would match Axl's vocals and just push it through the ceiling and make your heart just explode.

On the leaks.............. at times it comes close "TWAT" but I never get that emotional push from the guitar solo.

Finger guitar gymnastics is cool the first couple times, but it really wears thin after a while.

Vocals,melodies, emotion  10

guitar playing 5

thats how I rate it.

Catcher was perfect with the May solo......... now....... UGH

Axl's parts are excellent

Guitar parts fucking Blow for the most part.

The album feels incomplete.

Catcher was my fave but those new solos are horrendously bad

This I Love could've been an Epic classic with a great guitar melody/solo.

Finck holds a bunch of fucking bends................................. any amateur guitar player could do what he does. The guy is a shit guitarist.

That being said, I love Axl's vocals, lyrics, melodies and emotion.  The rest of the music? It could be a fucking Meatloaf album with Axl singing.

Yes but I do wonder how many takes it took to get it right, 2000? 10000?

yeah, the more I listen it is a bunch of bends and shit. Nothing really outstanding but it at least doesn't fuck the song up. my expectations of Finck are so low, I guess this is why I feel this solo is pretty good.

Ive always prided myself on being as middle of the road as possible, whether it be politics or this band.

I take up for Axl when he is right, I take up for Slash when he is right or what have you.

If the threads still existed at HTGTH, I have made threads in the past telling people why GNR are still GNR without the old members, I have started threads saying how Pitman will be the MVP of GNR and judging by certain things, he has been, I have made just as many pro GNR threads as negative ones.

My main theme has always been this, I think CD can be a better album than Appetite.

BUT u have to let the damn thing be released first.

People saying Finck is a better guitar player than Slash pisses me off. I am not bashing the new band, I am bashing misinformed fans who to me are clueless.

U are correct Winkler, there are plenty of people who bash the new to show allegiance to the old and I am against all of that.

I love the old band, and I love the new band but u aren't going to disrespect and take away the contributions of the old members to make the new seem better.

That is what I see a lot of and what I am protesting against. The fans who worship Axl and obey the Admins who philosophies are, if you don't agree with 100 percent of everything Axl does, u aren't a fan and are a troll.

I have been called a troll several times and its ridiculous. Yeah, I am a troll who has been a member for 5 years and damn near 17k posts. Trolls don't last that long.

I speak what I feel is the truth.

In my opinion, Slash and Axl are both to blame. neither more than the other. I can see Axl's reasons, I can see Slash and Co.'s reasons.

I for one have never been to cd.com and never plan on going there.

I hate that forums other than HTGTH require at least 3 letter usernames! HA!

I think GNRevolution has the perfect idea

A nice seperate section so those who don't want spoiled aren't and those who want to talk can.

Thanks guys!

Finck one writing credit!!!!!! I knew it!

paul Tobias is fucking GNR which is why we have a tremendous lack of kick ass guitar riffs etc.
