After watching some of the NIN footage of this tour, there's no way in hell Finck is ever coming back to GNR. Its a stale moldy loaf of bread compared to NIN.
Do I jack off to AFD or do something cool?
I think you know Finck's answer to that.
Cant wait for the Oakland show.
Pretty much exactly what my buddy said who went with me and I agree. He's a big Gn'R fan and not at all a NIN fan. I promised him he'd be blown away though and he was. NIN live blows the fuck outta new Gn'R live. It rocks just as hard. Actually probably harder cause it doesn't have those tedious solos to suffer through and it's ten million times more interesting to watch. The crowd interaction at a NIN show is very minimal(almost non existant) but you don't need it. The show itself is so captivating that any crowd interaction that does happen seems out of place actually. This is where Finck belongs no questions asked.

Got tickets to see NIN in Toronto, August 5th with my brother!! Couldn't get floor, which sold out in what couldn't have been more than a minute (presales did the same), but got some good lower level seats in the section closest to the stage. Better seats than I had for GN'R in 06 even!
Going to be my first NIN concert (second Robin Finck concert) and I can not wait! Up in Toronto for a day, maybe a trip to the Hockey Hall of Fame, a concert...
BTW, did you guys see NIN was listed by USA Today as #4 on their list of the 5 Acts You Need to See This Summer, or something like that. You never see new GN'R on those types of lists...
I am not bullshitting you when I say this but the best seats at a NIN show are straight away center at the back of the venue. That is of course if you want to really soak in the stage show. Being at the side of the stage isn't as good. It's a rare thing that I'd say this but having seen NIN from 3 different vantage points I know it from experience. Of course if you wanna mosh the floor is the place to be. CC if the back of ACC is empty and you're able to move I'd recomend you at least give those seats a shot even if for only one song.

For all you rookie NIN fans who have yet to see this band live get off your fucking asses and do it!! They are without a doubt one of the greatest live acts EVER! They just blew my fucking mind tonight in Edmonton for the second time in 11 months. It fucking ruled. Robin is ten times cooler in NIN than he was in Gn'R. Fuck their stage show blows anything I've ever seen outta the water.
One thing CC. Trent would do good to add a few more PHM songs. Terrible Lie and Head Like a Hole are not enough. The PHM songs get the biggest reaction by far and sound the best. Especially Trent's vocals. This was the case tonight as well as last November. Trent should really consider throwing Sin, Ringfinger and Something I can Never Have into the set on a regular basis. That's What I Get would be a deadly addition as well. It's not trippin' on nostalgia if the songs are amazing. Gave up, Pinion/Wish also killed tonight. The new songs are cool but the energy in the building hits a climax when the old songs play. Hurt is absolute classic. Like it or not a large number of people attending a NIN show are there for the PHM- Downward Spiral era. I'm not suggesting they neglect the new material but playing 3-4 songs off PHM is nothing like what Axl is/was doing.

My God Times have changed. Gn'R aren't rebelling anymore. And if anything this is a way for Gn'R's music to hit the ears of younger people who might not otherwise be exposed to it. Whether we like it or not iSlash is a music icon in the industry. He likely intermingles with everyone in the industry. From Lemmy to Justin Timberlake to Jane's Addiction to Fergie to whoever. Just as Axl woudl if he ever left his house. You know what. Slash probably ran into Fergie at a Party and she had probably been covering the song in her live shows and they probably got talking and figured it'd be fun. I'm so glad Slash isn't some pretentious asshole who thinks he's got too much integrity to play music. Like I said if Axl came out and sang with here people would be fucking all over it but Slash is a sellout. Right.
So many people thought Carrie Unbderwood's Gn'R covers were cool so if Slash played with her is that lame? She is afterall a product of a karaoke contest. Fuck no. if Slash played with Carrie Underwood itd be cool as fuck. Times have changed.

Never watched Lord of the Rings(well, tried once), but I do see your point of how the exact opposite style of editing can ruin films.
My point was not how different styles of editing can ruin a film. I felt both styles were absolutely perfect for their respective films. My point was simply editing is a personal taste I guess.

No stars. Its lame and brings that ultra cheesy aspect to it.
The franchise already has stars obviously, but you know what I mean. We don't need Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, Jessica Alba, etc. in the next film taking up various roles.
Yeah I hear that. Just something about it makes me think Tom Cruise could play it. He's got that crazy laugh and he's a smooth talker and a really good actor in my opinion. Everyone in the Nolan franchise is a star though to varying degrees so it's not like they've chosen to go with an unknown cast. Quite the opposite really like you pointed out. Jim Carey and Jessica Alba are not in the same league as Tom Cruise though.
Liam Neison
Katie Holmes
Christian Bale
Morgan Freeman
Michael Cain
Heath Ledger
Maggie Gylenhall
Aaron Eckhart
You could put a star in the next villan's role no problem.
True Rex. the casting of Ledger was mocked at first but that turned out o.k. I'd say Cruise would never happen though I realize that. Just a thought is all.

This is Cool. Whats wrong with it? To not do it is just ego driven. "I'm too good for this" "I have too much cred for this" I mean what's that even mean. These guys all lost their "street Cred" over a decade ago. They dont' live in shit boxes anymore. They party with celebs. Fuck last tour Richard and Finck coverd beautiful by Christina. What's the difference? If Slash did this cause the fans loved it than thats' cool. If the reaction was positive than that's cool. It's Slash playing a classic fucking Gn'R tune? If Axl did a duet with her on SCOM how'd that be percived? It's better than holing up in your basement for a decade leaving your fans starved like someone I could mention. Slash's car commercial wasn't cool but when Better was in line for the Harley Ad that was cool? C'mon people. Get over this "$la$h is a sellout" thing.

Oh to answer your question, yes I was high. That always enhances the film experience though.
I'd fall asleep.
I guess the editing thing is a personal prefrence. It was the ploar opposite of say the LOTR movies(and books) the editing in those films is such where they spend 20 minutes on one scene with a few actors. So long to where you forget about the other characters. Then they switch and you're like oh yeah these guys again. LOTR is so driven by the story telling aspact of it where as TDK is in essence an action film so I felt the editing kept things moving. I will agree on one thing though. It would have been nice to have one scene with the Joker all by himself. Ala the scene in LOTR where Gollam has a conversation with himself(Smeagol). That would've been truely amazing.
I don't think it's fair to bury the Joker with Heath. The character doesn't belong to him, and although I agree with him owning the role, I don't think it should die with him.
I don't necessarily mean retire the Joker forever just for this paticular franhcise that Nolan as come up with. Like you I trust the vision of this franhcise so I would like to see a third installment 100%. I dont' thin they'd fuck it it up at all.
Do you guys think Tom Cruise could pull off the Riddler? I like Cruise as an actor and part of me can see this being a good fit but I wonder if he'd be too big of a star. Would it be too "Tom Cruise"? he'd be better than Jim Carey though that's for damn sure:haha:
#3438 Re: The Sunset Strip » The BATMAN Thread » 883 weeks ago
What's there to "get"? Its not like its a complex storyline that only film majors can attempt to decipher. In actuality, its pretty safe fluff presented as some mature, dark, twisted tale, and required the use of shoddy editing techniques to even catapult the story along.
Oh, and you heard it here first.....
Ledger will not be nominated for an Oscar.
Thank the editor if you need to thank anyone.
When the "high" from this film finally subsides, you will hear others pointing out similar issues like I am doing now.
I would seriously like to see a re-edit of this film.
This is ironic James considering you said it was difficult to follow and you found yourself losing focus on what each characters goal was How could Ledger not be nominated? If your complaint is that he didn't get enough face time then isn't it even more impressive that he was able to create thsi psycotic performance in a smaller amount of time? It was a mind blowing performance and in my opinion no you couldn't list a whole lot of performances better. Fuck if that dude in No Country for Old Men wins an Oscar Ledger should win 12. Ledger's performance is one of the all time great movie performances period. I personally think it ruled and I don't believe you'll hear more critics regarding his performance or the editing months from now.
Look I'm not a super hero fan by any means. I hate the Spider Man movies, I hated all the Batman movies before Batman Begins, The Hulk movies are a mess, X-Men sucked, the Superman reboot sucked and the old ones are good only cause of the nostalgia factor. I don't even own a comic book and never have but Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are kick ass movies.
I dont' know James. I'm not trying to be an ass here by any means but I really get the sense you just didn't understand(for lack of a better word) the movie or that you expected something completely different. You really shoudl've watched BB first for your charcater development. I told you to watch that movie first!!!
As for the plot like tejastech08 has said Harvey was the plot. Without his character there's no conflict for Bruce Wayne. Without Harvey there's no fork placed in Batman's road. Without him there's no "white Knight" to take the Dark Knight's place in restoring Gotham.
As for Bale, he's the best Batman ever by far. He nails the playboy billionaire role, he kills as Batman. I mean Keaton, Kilmer and Clooney suck in comparison.
I'm just really surprised you dont' like this movie James. For me 99.9% of all movies are see it once and forget it. BB and TDK are far, far, far from that. I own the Star Wars movies, the LOTR movies and Batman Begins. That says all you need to know about how I feel.
To answer whether or not I'd like the Joker brought back? FUCK NO! I thought it was lame replacing a bit character in Rachel Dawes there's no way I'd support anyone other than Ledger playing the Joker. Johnny Depp? Please! Everyone always raves about Depp but I think he's vastly overrated. Heath's Joker fucking destroys anything Depp has ever done in my mind. All I know is when an actor or actress hypnotizes you every time they are on the screen that's a fucking grand slam performance and Heath did that for me in TDK. Retire the Joker.

Not spoiler heavy, but its not a good review and since some of the members(and guests) here may not have watched this yet and not interested in negativity clouding things, I'll go ahead and wrap it in a spoiler tag.

I dissagree with nearly everything you said James. Except Maggie who flat out sucked. You say the characters never get established? Well you never saw Batman Begins where they establish most all of the characters so.... the Joker doesn't need establishing. he does that with his maniacly personality and it's summed up when Alfred says "Some men just want to watch the world burn". And really how did you lose focus on what the goal of each charcter was? Were you high when you saw this?
#3440 Re: The Sunset Strip » The BATMAN Thread » 884 weeks ago
Just some quick thoughts. I saw this last night and it was fantastic. It got s little too "big" near the end but overall it was amazing.
Darth Vader will always eb the most iconic villan in my opinion but Heath's Joker si the greatest villan performance of all tiem in my opinion. It fucking killed it. Jack's Joker is a joke in comparison. I was totally hypnotized every tiem the Joker was ont eh screen. Oscar deservng for damn sure.
Christan Bale is by far the best batman and Bruce Wayne in my opinion. he is now the classic Batman actor.
As for m concern with Maggie Gylenhall Taking over for Katie Holmes. Well she sucked I thoght. They might as well have cast her as the Joker with that stupid shit eating grin she had on her face every tiem she deliverd a line. Honestly Katie Holmes was much better in my opinion. Maggie played the roel like it was supposed ot be one long saracstic joke. terrible.
I'm rushed(literally 30 secods of intenet tiem haha) so sorry for the typeo's. Later.
