#3471 Re: Guns N' Roses » GNR's 'Democracy' To Be Retail Exclusive? » 886 weeks ago
I don't blame Axl. U have to compromise a little and u got to think 13 MILLION dollars. That is a lot of scratch and the label will get that money back. Releasing it through Walmart is a way to get that money back plus a profit.
U sell exclusively to Walmart, here is what happens.
Walmart probably pays the label 10 million for the exclusive rights.
Walmart THEN sells it for 10 dollars.
Walmart since paying 10 million up front probably would keep 5 dollars an album, label gets 3, GNR gets 2.
The album will have a HUGE stand in the front of every Walmart store, say the record sells 5 million in Walmart and with a big single and NO Itunes, it could sale close to that.
5 million times 5 would be 25 million for Wally world Profit of 15 million Label gets 15 million plus the 10 for exclusive rights, so they make 25 million which is almost double the 13 the spent on it. GNR rake in 10 million.
Everyone wins.

I think the mediocre guitar playing of Robin makes Bucket seem even more God like which is why he gets even more respect on here. I like Bucket because, to replace a legend, u have to have somebody absolutely amazing. Robin is a HUGE step back as I see Robin more of a Gilby Clarke than a Slash but Bucket, that guy is an enigma, looks cool, is mysterious and can play like a motherfucker. Ron can play fast also but I think Bucket's playing is a little cleaner and u can hear the notes a lot better whereas sometimes with Ron, the notes sound kind of muddled together.

I really don't think Axl would construct a song to attack his own fanbase. He needs all the friends & supporters he can get, and especially after the tirade by Del James that was put up on GNR.com and quickly yanked down.
No way their PR department (Axl) would let a song of all things go out there in the mainstream as an attack on the fans. Sure there are bad fans, but there's also good fans that love the music, love anything GN'R, and support Axl 100%. To turn on his own fans would be no different than eating a bullet. He would alienate his last line of defense.
Then again, that logic didn't stop Lars Ulrich for launching a lawsuit, which he now regrets. And if Shackler is about the fanbase, Axl will regret it too.
This is speaking in theory of course. I personally think it's about the old band.
I'm sure its not. There isnt a fan base close to as loyal as the GNR fanbase. No band in the history of the world puts their fans through more bullshit and disappointments. SO if they can't see and appreciate that, Fuck em!

If they do this with Wal Mart, would that be considered a sell out move?
#3475 Re: Guns N' Roses » Song #2 (Prostitute) is the biggest gun of all IMO » 886 weeks ago
It's not that it's his "comfort zone" its that it's his specality. If U2 the Edge and the rest of U2 started to write metal songs that required a satan-growl - how would bono fit in? You use bono when you want the lead vocals to be "singing" - you use slash when you want to inject some blues soul into the music.
The reason people call for slash back is that SOME of the leaks are lacking that "something" - it doesn't have to be slash himself - but musically - in terms of the guitar - while theres some fancy playing - in places they're left artistically wanting. The music isn't on par with what axl does in the songs. And that's what people sence.
WOW, thats what I was tryin to say. Thanks Monkey chow!

my thoughts exactly. Slash left not because Axl was being a "dictator", but because Axl's new direction wasn't bluesy hard rock that Slash has always done. Slash didn't want to come out of his comfort zone. And if you try to pull some bull**** saying all this is speculation go listen to Contraband and Libertad.
What a bunch of bullshit. HAHA, u guys cant be serious?
Track 2 doesnt have a guitar solo worth a shit. U want to know what NR would sound like without slash, here ya go. U want to know what Estranged would sound like without Slash, here ya go.
Dont sit here and say Slash can only play 4 chord blues rock, cause Slash took NR and Estranged, 2 great songs and made them Epic masterpieces. GNR songs are just as famous for Slash's guitar work as Axl's vocals.
Listen to Track 2's crappy guitar intro and compare that to one of the top 5 Guitar intro's in music history SCOM. since u want to bring up Libertad, "The Last Fight's" intro destroys ever Leak guitar intro and it aint even close.
no comparison. Just look at the guitar tabs for the CD songs for fucks sake. A 16 year old Punk Power Chord kid could play that shit.
Axl is great, but the guitar playing in these songs for the most part blows.
Slash didnt want to be a copy cat Industrial band. This is GNR, they are originals and don't follow trends.
The leaks are Axl pasting together every trend in music history.

First singles are to build hype and introduce people, 2nd single is usually the commercial big dog.

People seem to be fairly indifferent to this song, which baffles me to be honest.
After having listened to it fairly solidly over the last 2 months or so, I can safely say that it is the best new Guns song I have heard (it succeeds where TWAT fails).
My opinion obviously, but along with Better and CITR (I used to feel the Blues was up there too, but it has lost a little something for me), this is clearly the strongest.
It really builds nicely, is melodic and heavy in parts. Axl delivers one of his stronger performances I feel, and the part where he talks about 'Fortune and shame" gives me goose bumps. This is what I imagined when I thought of what this band should sound like.
Why the indifference? Is it because BH plays a relatively minor role? I don't get it - to me, easily the strongest track in their canon is staring us in the face and people see decidely non-plussed?
This song sums up the band in my opinion. Axl's parts, lyrics, melodies are great.
music is subpar.
Seriously, u add a slash like Solo and guitar fills and this song is right up there with NR.
No intro, the song basically is the same thing, same melody over and over.

I don't think a comparison between Trent and Axl is an effective use of time. One clearly updates his fanbase, focuses on the serendipitous proliferation of new ideas, churns out new material weeks after its creation, and even offers free sample. The only is a very introspective thinker and perfectionist who labors with small details until he believes the work is up to his standard.
Two different artists with two diametrically polar opposite styles.
And only one can have Robin Finck.
I hope personally that Trent wins Robin. Robin FITS with NIN, his style is perfect for NIN. His style in GNR for me doesnt work. Im not a fan of his guitar playing GNR wise. Its great in NIN but not in GNR.
I like the new band but I am all for a reunion. That for me would be the greatest thing ever.

Im sorry but after the MSL interview where he talked how they hated Slash and it was after the Slash visit to axl's house, Slash in his book talking about Axl............ those lyrics sound old band inspired to me.
