#341 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Will there be anything for Contraband’s 20th anniversary? » 171 weeks ago
There's definitely a couple of never-released tracks IIRC: The House Is Alive and a cover of Tie Your Mother Down, but I'm not sure if they're from the Contraband period or the Libertad one.
Gotta be honest, a reunion with guest singers would just seem awkward to me, and would just remind me how annoyed I am that they never got Chester Bennington to front VR post-Scott.

Izzy figured that would lead to more rockstar drama rather than fun and he took off.
To be fair, he wasn't wrong.

I do wish I could've heard the combo of Duff and Brain.
Yeah, it's kind of annoying that Brain has retired from touring. Maybe when his kids are a bit older he'll hit the road again? Seems like it'd make logical sense for him too, he could work with Melissa on their film scores etc while they're on tour.

Axl will be absolutely crucified in the media if he re-releases OMG as a "new" single. Any goodwill will be gone. He spent up most of that goodwill on Absurd.
I doubt it'll cause much of a splash, tbh.

1.It was redone in 2006 along with the BBF Silkworms. Absurd is basically the BBF Silkworms with a couple of Slash licks pasted in, so it's something they could do without much work.
2.It was on the leaked 2008 CD 2 list.
3.There was a glimpse from a soundcheck I think of a video behind had the band with lyrics from OMG, so this means the band have made a concert video for it.On 3. on every show of the last your they had lyrics for OMG on the screen during YCBM.
4. Was on the setlist in 2018 as an alt.
5. Prior to RIR in 2011, it was soundchecked so was still kicking around then.
Plus, Axl has always regarded the released version as an unfinished demo:
Q: I love Oh my God, but it really sounds like a demo, why? I'm sure we all would love a new version.
A: Because that's all it was, only at the time having just got it together only Jimmy Iovine knew that who wanted it to sell their soundtrack. I saw segments of the movie which were good. As a whole later not so much but it wasn't ready yet then. I did write an experimental piece inspired by the bits I'd seen called "Daddy Can the Devil do Mommy and me?" ;D (Axl Rose, chinesedemocracy.com forum, Dec. 2008)

Yeah, Absurd got them a lot of negative feedback. Most comments on social media were ripping them apart for releasing such a jarring song, especially as the first new song to feature Axl, Slash and Duff in 30 years.
Hardschool is a much more traditional rocker, and coupled with a cool filmclip of some live performance footage video, it could’ve gotten a much better response.
Instead they drew all the wrong attention with Absurd, that by the time they released Hardschool 2 months later, no one really cared anymore.
I can't believe they somehow managed to fuck up the easiest media/PR roll-out in history. The first new song from the OG GN'R crew in 30 years, and they push out… Absurd. With wonky misaligned lyrics that are off the beat.
For fuck's sake, all you had to do was drop Hard Skool, then Atlas, then push out an album. Preferably one that involves the principal members, y'know, sitting, jamming and recording in a room together like every normal band on the fucking planet. But no, it's cut-and-pasted guitar overdubs bodged onto 20-year-old demos and "I can't say for sure when the album is."

Although country music’s not necessarily what I do, I have an appreciation for the soul of it, and I love old-school country music. The cool thing about Dave is that his country — as contemporary as it is — is very stripped down, very human, very sort of raw and emotional.
Huh. I wonder if Slash likes Colter Wall? His first album was produced by Dave Cobb, and you could certainly call it "old-school," "raw and emotional," and "stripped down"…

I mean, logically it's going to be one of the more "finished" songs. Atlas Shrugged, Perhaps, or OMG.

Meanwhile I'm thinking "can they not just get Todd to front the band full-time?"
