Soul Asylum was basically a poor man's Replacements. SA didn't have near the swagger and panache the Mats had....and they didn't have Bob Stinson.
In your opinion maybe. Soul Asylum were just as punk as the Mats back in the day. I guess being named best live act in America isn't swagger enough You can't always say smethng's a "poor man's version" just because they came after. Soul Asylum has David Pirner though who is a much better singer / song writer than anyone in the Mats or Replacements. Plus David Pirner on stage ahs that "it" factor. You can't help but watch him. I can't say the same for the Westerberg of Stinson. Of course that's my opinion only.

I never understood why people have an issue with slash doing his thing...he's in demand, he keeps busy, he's making money and music, what would any of you do if everyone in the world wanted your services? oh no man i dont wanna sell out....riigght you would
Slash has made a great name for himself and he keeps himself out there...his multi-ethnical background market him perfectly as well as his personal history....the man has dated and married porn stars, been an addict and clean, been broke as fuck and richer than any of us could dream, hes british and american, is an icon of the music industry..the man is an icon in the industry ... as big as any name in music ever...yet he gets flack for doing what he does...i'll tell ya what Slash is the one keeping the GnR name alive....not these other fucking guys including Axl.
You see that GNR Greatest Hits on the shelf? it sold cuz some kids wanted to learn to play some classic guitar solos and riffs..it sold cuz it was released on the heels of Contraband and peopel were reminded how great Slash is, see that Guitar Hero Game? Slash is bringing GnR to a whole new generation cuz thats what language the kids speak these days, you see the promotion for AFD's 20th? who did it? thats right Slash was the one doign interviews regarding the band? See the Mcfarlane aaction figures? where is the Axl one....where is Axl's book? EVERYFUCKING thing that you could find that is remotely positive for GnR these days is Slash news...and Axl remains silent, so where is the "heart and soul" of the band during all this sitting up in malibu with his thumb up his ass...the very ocasional update about "HIS" band...oh yeah a cameo on GTA:SA... but hes cheesy cameo isnt selling out, Slash in Guitar Hero is though, i dont understand
anyway i dont understand how someone who sold 40 Million records could sell out any more than they already have.... i mean really here...i think that people are jealous that someone who isnt in the band is actually the the one with the most integrity and fame regarding the band...if you are nt doing anything you arent relevant...Slash stays in the public eye so he stays relevant..i cannot see how this is something negative
Its a fuckign shame that these two guys cant straighten their shit out cuz they made magic together...and it saddens me that there are GnR fans who hate Slash....how can you be a gnr fan if you dont like this man? i just dont fucking get it at all
there is my rant of the year

Neemo your "rant of the year" is one of if not the greatest posts I have ever read in all the time I have posted on internet forums. Not just Gn'R forums but internet forums. you absolutely nailed. This whole idea of defending Axl for his "integrity" and knocking Slash for his "selling out" is pure garbage and hugely hypocritical. I bow down to you Neemo. That's was brilliant!!

Neemo wrote:wow 3 of the 4 series are up 3-0 i was thinking they would be close than that
They should all by 3-0. Philly deserved game 1, if not for some lousy reffing. But overall, it's been a lame round 2.
Please. Montreal has outplayed Philly in all 4 games so far. Outshot, outchanced, outplayed. bad breaks and Biron have gotten in the way. I admit the Habs dont' seem to have any urgency and Philly ahs picked their spots but to say Philly desereved to be up 3-0 is ridiculous. In games 2 and 3 Philly was lucky not to be down 3 or 4 nothing after one period. And if you wanna talk lousy reffing how about that extremely iffy call on Begin last night. a 2-2 game with 5 minutes to go and they call him for a "late" hit. Clean hit, nothing dirty but according to the refs judgment it was so late it deserevd to determine the outcome of the game. In my opinion it's call that could've went either way but given the circumstances maybe the whistle should've stayed in the pocket.
Of all the series this is the one that isn't a sure thing yet. If Montreal wins on Saturday there will be ALOT of second guessing in Philly given that they've been outplayed in all the games so far. Go Habs Go!(I'm not holding my breath)

is that meant to increase my interest in them? ...if so you failed miserably
haha! Nope. You like whatever you wanna like . The sad part is, and I'm not directing this at anyone in paticular cause I dont' know, but I'd be willing to bet that 99% of the people who have heard of Soul Asylum have never botherd to check out their 80's punk rock. They put out 6 albums before Grave Dancer's Union. Great for them that Runaway Train broke huge but they really got pigeon holed as "that band" and people don't realize how hard they rocked in their younger days. Interesting fact about Soul Asylum. Rolling Stone magazine named them "Best Live Band in America" 8 years running durring the 80's. I believe it was 8 years. Either way it was alot of years.

For those of you interested in the Replacements but haven't really listend to them, they sound alot like Soul Asylum. Or should I say Soul Asylum sound like them as the Replacements were a huge influence on Soul Asylum along with bands like Husker Du and the Jayhawks. If you listen to early Replacements and early Soul Asylum and listen to how their carrers devoloped it's crazy the similarities in style. Both huge bands in Minneapolis though so it's not surprising I guess. They are friends so....
As far as "Guns N' Roses" being in trouble with departures.....Well it dosen't matter who leaves they were never ment to be heard as Gn'R anyways. It's all simply been a stalling tactic. A way for Axl to work out his vision without holding the real Gn'R back. The pieces are all falling into place. The current band members are starting to accept nothing is ever gonna happen with this lineup, VR is singerless and I highly doubt they just go out and get a new singer. Axl has this masterpiece in his head but has never found the musicians to bring it to life. The only guy who can relate to what he's trying to say is Slash. If you're a fan of the new band yeah they're in trouble and unfortunately you'll never get to hear the abnd you've waited to hear. As far as CD and Guns N' Roses goes I think this is ultimately what Axl was gonna do no matter what. Gn'R means too much to him to have all these guys be involved. Axl knows better than anyone that Gn'R is Axl, Sash and Duff and Izzy if he wants to be a part if it. CD is gonna have Slash's finger prints all over it.
just my opinion of course.

Well maybe Budaj will start in game 3. Theo's off and the Avalanche are fucked. No Forsberg, no Hannen, No Svatos, no Wolski. Totally fucked.
#3647 Re: The Garden » The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread » 895 weeks ago
How did Lundqvist and the D collapse like that? Up 3-0 and they lost... of all the teams int he playoffs I'd think the Rangers could hold a lead. Either this series is gonna be crazy, or the Rangers will fall apart under this game. It's a heartbreaker for them. Especially with that penalty being a weak call.
remember when the Habs came back from being down 5-0 to the Rangers this year. The Rangers collapsing shouldn't be too much of a surprise. they did it a few times this year.

How about them Wings??
Although it is worrysome that when the Avs switched goalies, we couldn't get one past the new dude!
We'll see who starts on for them Saturday.
the only chance in hell Theodore doesn't start is if he's injured or sick(which is rumored). He started 26 of the last 27 games for the Avalanche and has basically played lights out the entire time. Trust me there is no goaltending controversy in Colorado.
habs vs Flyers was weird. Montreal seemed to control the play for the fisrt two periods yet could only managed a 2-2 tie. They hit the post twice and Biron stopped a penalty shot. The Flyers were lucky to not be down 5-2 after 2 periods. The 3rd though was disgusting. The Habs deserevd to lose based on that alone but hey they didn't so it evens out. Kovalev's 1st goal wasn't a highstick in my opinion. At first I thought it was but after revieing it to me it looked like he made contact at or just belwo the crossbar.
Huge comeback for the Penguins today. I picked the Rangers but I hope Pitsburgh wins. I think Montreal(if they get by Philly) has a better shot at beating Pittsburgh than the Rangers. Plus after Crosby plays a playoff game in Montreal he'll know he wants to sign there once his contract in Pittsburgh is up haha;)
If Forsberg doesn't play the Avs are done. With Forsberg the Wings are done in my opinion. Something wasn't right with Theo last night and that'll change.
Dallas and San Jose? Who fucking cares haha.

Wooo! Hoo! I got what I wanted tonight. Flames lost(so sick of Flames fans out here in Alberta) and Philly won. I like that matchup for Montreal. Here's my picks
East:
Habs vs Flyers - Habs in 6
Rangers vs Penguins - Rangers in 6
West:
Red Wings vs Avalanche - Avalanche in 6
Sharks vs Stars - Sharks in 7
GO HABS GO!!!
#3650 Re: Guns N' Roses » Del James comments on Robins status » 897 weeks ago
I'd like to chime in quickly here and say none of this surprises me. Over a year ago I posted at the old ROV that CD is never coming out untill the old guys(Slash & Duff) put their mark on it. The album is not done, it's not handed in and it's not even close to being released. The reason? Slash and Duff haven't recroded their parts yet. VR is singless, Gn'R has lost their lead man on guitar, gee I wonder what we can expect to unfold within the next year or so....... I'm sticking to this theory cause in my opinion it's the most solid theory going and has been for a few years now.
