I never said anyone should steal from them. I agree if someone wants to send a message the best way is not to support them at all.

So if you listen to all the commercial shit you have high self esteem, but if you're into some of the most sold and acclaimed albums ever you are a loser?
Gimme a fuckin' break.
I'll agree, some of the characterizations are interesting, but really it's just some vague bullshit.
I can see where they get these characterizations. For example I am sure the popular people with a large social network are more likely to listen to the commercial shit than they are metal or classic rock. Those type of people tend to be more concerned with what's trendy.
However, they are generalizing a lot. Not everyone who listens to pop is going to have high self esteem and not everyone who listens to rock and metal will have low self esteem. My friend listens to pop and she is pretty much the opposite of everything listed for pop.

I'm glad they are looking to go back into the original direction that wanted to go in.

I completely understand where Bono is coming from which is why I have thought about boycotting this album. The band gets away with their utter disdain for the fans because they know the hardcores are going to flock to their local record store no matter what they do. They really have no reason to be a fan friendly band because they already have us in the palm of their hands. We bitch and moan all we like but each of us is good for a least one copy each. Maybe if more of us shared Bono's attitude they'd start to appreciate the fan base.
#385 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slash talks about Chinese Democracy and Axl ! » 877 weeks ago
It's not hypocrisy. There is a clear difference between giving a copy to a former member of the band and streaming a copy on the web so millions of people can download before the release. It's your assumption that Slash has the same leaked tracks. No, Axl won't be giving Slash a copy, but he is well liked and respected in the industry enough that someone along the chain could have given him a copy.
#386 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slash talks about Chinese Democracy and Axl ! » 877 weeks ago
Its funny how Slash has this opinion of this guy giving out unreleased music, yet he`s been handed a cd full of unreleased songs, and listened to them, and yet fails to report the guy who gave him it.... his guy is the same as our guy as far as wrong doings go....
Are you serious? Do you honestly think GNR/Azoff/Universal/the RIAA are going to be bothered by someone giving a copy to a well-respected musician who was once a prominent member of the band? It's not even close to being the same thing that Skwerl did.
It's like some people have to invent new ways to criticize Slash.

If it is good I'll buy it. If it isn't I won't.
#388 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slash's Reaction to GN'R leaker!!!! » 877 weeks ago
Slash is not judging downloaders or giving us fans so get off your high horse. He condemned what Cogill did. I am not going to condemn Cogill myself, but the argument that Slash stealing some records from a record store is worse than what Cogill did is absolutely ludicrous. Both Slash and Cogill were wrong under the law, but Cogills actions has a much wider impact than Slash stealing some records. Cogill's stunt could theoretically cost the band and record company millions of dollars. People like Cogill have a huge hand in the record industry's demise and people like him cause more harm to mom & pop record stores than Slash did.
It's also a joke to call Slash a hypocrite. Are you saying that he is always and forever labelled a thief because of what he did when he was young and stupid? Are you saying that he can't change his opinions on stealing now that he is fully grown man who is much wiser than when he stole as a kid? That's garbage. We all pull stupid shit when we're kids that we would never do as much older and wiser adults. That doesn't make someone a hypocrite. It means they've grown up. Slash is just an entitled to his opinion as anyone else.
#389 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slash's Reaction to GN'R leaker!!!! » 878 weeks ago
I don't think Slash is necessarily defending with Axl. I am sure many musicians out there would be bothered by something like this. I think Slash was speaking as a musician and not in defense of Axl.
I also don't think Slash is being a hypocrite. Yeah, he stole in the past but that doesn't mean he can't change his views on stealing as he got older and wiser. Most people have done something stupid when they were younger than they would no longer agree with as they grew up.
I dunno. Spreading released songs on the internet is something that is bound to happen, not something they control. Spreading a pre-release leak is something that you have to take care of within your own organisation. Not mr. Skwerl should be in jail, but the guy who gave him the tracks. All skwerl did was distribute them to a wider audience, he didn't leak them - he shouldn't have had them in the first place.
I think they are going after Skwerl to get him to give up the person who gave him the tracks. They can offer him a plea deal where he gets off with a slap on the wrist if he tells them how he got the tracks.
#390 Re: Guns N' Roses » Replacements Drummer Steve Foley dies » 878 weeks ago
Wow. I know nothing about this band but the few things I see madagas, downliner, etc. mention. Would this guy have been in the reunion, or would they have went with a different drummer?
I don't think he would have been involved. He wasn't on the two new tracks they recorded for their Best Of disc.
