Can’t see Slash and Duff (Tenderness guy) in particular wanting a bar of this .

Could be the impetus to get some proper professional management or just as equally could derail the whole thing .

Surely Fernando as manager and by proxy Team Brazil is  a completely untenable situation going forward now. This could be the end of the road - Axl seems to need these people.

So it is coming out on CD.

It's funny how we have to rely on UMG Euro and Asian sites for info.

Japan only release? Many bands do this.

It's starting to look like connecting Monsters to The General was a mistake...or they considered it but pulled back at the last minute.

Not including it on a 7" vinyl is one thing...not doing it on CD is another.

I'm kind of hoping Monsters is the b-side to Atlas - but that seems kind of unrealistic I guess.

Of all the leftovers, I'm intrigued the most to hear what they could do with Atlas

It's an interesting proposition.

I remember hearing at one point there were rumours of discontent amongst the elite or established 'rock royalty' - concerning how GN'R ascended to the top table so quickly. They went from a scrappy club band to a stadium headliner pretty much overnight.

That said, the glaring difference between GN'R and the likes of Faster Pussycat and their ilk is simple. Sheer talent. They were simply the perfect blend of all of the genres of rock that had proceeded them and no-one put it together anywhere near as well. Couple that with a clutch of the most memorable rock songs ever written, iconic individual members and one of the most unique voices ever heard in mainstream music.

Any chance this thread could be discussion about the actual songs/music rather than arguments about who leaked what?

My thoughts after some further listening including the live version.

Whilst they are serviceable, they are just not very good songs. They sound dated and the Velvet Revolver/early 2000's comparisons are a good shout. Slash's soloing is a little more inspired but still a far cry from his heyday.
I miss the old sound - but it's pretty evident that Izzy is needed for that. Ironically the Appetite/Lies sound is far more intricate/complex than these supposed 'epics'.

It was always going to be hard to live up to the hype I guess. I also have to weigh in behind those who say it is a very heavy topic to have for a song you 'enjoy'. I commend Axl for bringing it to the surface as an artist - I guess I imagined it would be presented in a more abstract/poetic way perhaps. It is very confronting and possibly the more powerful for it - but as far as a GN'R song that I can enjoy, maybe I have to be in the right frame of mind.

As I've mentioned before, I hope they both have a more distinct ending - they just seem to whimper out.

Monsters, I think is marginally better.

The General, I’m convinced that is Finck etc

What makes you come around to it being Slash and not Robin on Monsters? I think the Monsters solo towards the end is Robin. Sounds like Street Of Dreams and other Chinese solos. Do you hear that in Monsters?

I agree that Robin Finck is The General. The solo towards the end of The General is classic Robin Finck!

It would help if a source would throw us a bone and confirms who does the solos on these demos.

You could be right … there are some very sort of cliched sounding Slash licks on Monsters but it could be imitation. I’m more inclined to think it’s Slash present day - not particularly inspired or inspiring .

That said the songs are pretty good - definitely growers

Both of them need stronger endings - they just sort of end abruptly and out sort of end with a whimper

Anyone hear any parts of what they played instrumentally in soundchecks recently that was speculated to be the general ?(I don't)

#39 Re: Guns N' Roses » The General and Monsters » 86 weeks ago

I remain unconvinced these are newer versions with Slash and Duff - sounds distinctly nu-guns to me
