timeline?
i became a guns fan in 96'.
graduated junior high
graduated high school
graduate college
voted in 2 presidential elections
began and ended a 6 year relationship
got a MA degree
3 Pats SuperBowl wins, 2 Sox World Series, 1 Celtics Banner
and through it all the UYI CDs and AFD provided a lot of the soundtrack. it's a big deal in that sense...it'll be something that I can carry with me through all the next big moments.

i hope we go to a point where people are talking about the music for awhile-good, bad, ugly--as long as it gets off the substanceless, repetitive discussions of the last few years.
beyond that--i guess it's like James said, beyond talking about the final product, alot will depend on what Axl does or doesn't do...fortunately, the wait on that will (probably, hopefully) not be 14 years!

azoff gets the gold star and an A+ for doing what many thought was impossible.
also, going on the assumption that the RS report was/is true about a tour in 2009 and it is some incarnation of the 2006 line-up, I imagine he will have a better touring plan than Merck did--probably focus on smaller venues with a few biggies here and there (MSG)

Merck's fatal mistake was involving himself in the online aspect of the fanbase. There was ZERO purpose in doing that. It achieved NOTHING. No offense to the names I'm about to mention, but Merck emailing madison, davegnr2k, Jarmo, chineseblues,etc. was completely irrelevant to anything going on. Looking back on that era, its no surprise that nothing got done when the manager in charge of getting the ball rolling was too busy emailing forum members.
great, great point.
it seems like merck thought garnering influence with the online community and in turn crushing critical opinions of the band was more important than legitimately pushing for completion of the album and swaying the label, retailers, etc. to get behind the thing.

It should have been marketed like that all along instead of offering up some delusional fantasy that people like Fortus had any influence in the band. The fanbase wouldn't be splintered in so many "factions" had this been marketed like NIN since the late 90's.
Axl, Gould, and Azoff need to bring a dose of reality to certain segments of the fanbase.
i generally agree with you. and maybe with A/G running things now you will see that. again, if things go through and the record is even a modest success, you have to wonder what these guys were able to do w/ Axl that Merck didn't or couldn't....

well, if it's all in place and this thing is dropping in November, i imagine we will have guns' announcing something within the next week. Azoff and Gould should get a gold star for pulling off what Goldstein and Merck couldn't...and really in under a year's time.
assuming there are no cock-ups and it all goes through, it will be interesting to see what form promotion takes visa-vis touring, live media appearances, etc...

well, things certainly look...interesting.
If there's any chance of this year happening, then I would imagine some further leaks in the pipeline will be happening in the next couple of weeks.
