#31 Re: Guns N' Roses » My guitar complaint *spoilers included* » 867 weeks ago

Smoking Guns, GNR is no longer a blues-based hard rock band.  How could anyone expect them to be?  When there are new chefs in the kitchen, the ingredients are bound to change.  While I agree that there are occasions in the new tunes that may attempt to replicate Slash's style (whether they were explicitly directed by Axl to attempt to capture "that" sound, or they elected to do so of their own volition is unclear), for the most part, the tones and effects being used on most of the songs seem to identify which guitarist is playing.  That, in and of itself, is a pretty major feat when you consider who they are replacing.  Most of us can already discuss Finck's "sound", Bucket's "sound", Bumble's "sound", etc....Whether or not one enjoys what they are hearing is another debate altogether.

The single is nearing a month out in the wild...IF CD is the video, we needed it about 2 weeks go.

Boy, am i relieved that Fricke reviewed that...Only person left at the magazine with any ounce of credibility, IMO.  I knew he wouldn't resort to the cheap heat by filling the review with "where's Slash?" and "Seventeen years for this?"  He's a better person than that, and this review shows it.  I hope Stephen Thomas Erlewine (SP?) does the review for AMG.

Polluxlm, that was a tremendous effort on your part.  Haven't heard the song yet, don't want to, but, in my eyes, there's apparently not too many other conclusions one could draw from those lyrics.  That piss n' vinegar was just what this album had been lacking.

Any help acquiring any post-AIM songs would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Neemo, I didn't necessarily WANT to see them beforehand, but I felt compelled to. smile

If this is any solace to you, I don't know, but I told my wife she had to wait to see them, I thought we were in agreement, but she went and found them on her own anyway...

I take no issue with the possibility of any mods receiving "just rewards" for the effort they have exerted.  These boards helped to galvanized the community in periods of darkness when we had no idea if/when anything was to come.  If certain individuals were acknowledged for their efforts, I think it's an altruistic gesture on GNR's part, although if certain folks benefited, every admin across the board (literally) or boards, in this case, should've shared in the spoils.

That being said, I don't feel that the lock down of the majority of the community is commensurate  with the token they may or may not have obtained.

The Eagles Long Run album. Also seems to be channeling Ben Shepard's sound a bit on Superunknown.

I love this description...great observation.

Same here. Not shaping up to be a 'Stinson record', but I certainly am pleased with his contributions.

Welcome to the forum. I know I've seen that name somewhere. Gonna assume mygnr as its the only 'big' site that I semi-lurk at now.

Yea, I've used the same name for years at all the usual locations..I'm not feeling very optimistic regarding writing credits (at least with what I know thus far), but I can say that "The General" and his bass work are tremendous on the June leaks of TWAT and The Blues, specifically.
