I just saw that Metallica clip. Fuck me. I mean they were always whores but that was a new low. We should be grateful Axl isn't taking it to that level.
Used to be serious artists didn't want to be caught dead with some corporate performer. Bon Jovi got a reality check when he wanted to do something with Bruce Springsteen and was flatly turned down. Imagine Pantera doing a show with Britney Spears in the late 90s, unthinkable. That's the level Metallica are now playing at.
Carrie Underwood is not exactly the end of the world but she's doing country music and she's not known for much besides being pretty. She sings alright I guess. If it was Garth Brooks okay...

Yes, God forbid. Not like they need the money. It's whoring out.

I don't like this. To do it once with a singer like that is fine, but twice is a pattern and you start to become associated with it. GN'R should try and keep a semblance of credibility. That means not hooking up with pop stars like it was a second band. It's not just nostalgia anymore, it's nostalgia with a happy meal.
The most dangerous band in the world moniker was still valid in 2002. Even in 2006 you could make a case for getting into fights and biting the leg of a hotel security guard. Now it's like a trip to Six Flags.

No more than usual actually. Right now I'm watching the french Count of Monte Cristo with Depardieu.
I think it's Depardieu's best role. His physical presence is critical to the appearance of the count. No, he shouldn't look like that being in prison for so long, but it helps the image of him as this imposing, god like figure. It's a tv production so the sets aren't all that, but the casting is great with a lot of good actors. French is a very beautiful sounding language.
You wouldn't want to watch an old movie with me. When I see a good scene I often rewind to watch it again or pause it to just take in the imagery. If the movie is mediocre but with some good scenes I will just fast forward over all the bad parts.
The opening scene of the first Mission Impossible. The very first image when Estevez is watching the surveillance footage. Why I love this shot I don't know. Maybe just the composition, or that the camera zooms in on a mini movie while Estevez sits still as if inanimated. Later, at the start of the train scene, the establishing shot of the train with the speed and the music, it's such an awesome shot to create a feeling of suspense and anticipation. And then right before Tom Cruise goes to the roof of the train, that small shot looking at the entrance hatch with the light coming through. It's those type of shots you don't see in a lesser movie. Camera work is an underdeveloped skill among most directors.

The band has said they want to release music. If they don't want people to demand, they can just admit they are a nostalgia act from now on.

Once there was this rock n roll band rolling...

Haven't heard that word since the movie Sleuth. No idea what it meant!
Yes I agree. They are in a position to do whatever they want. None of this can be blamed on the record company.

I don't think so, if only because of the Wall. Waters has the rights and he would be the only one able to offer a show based on it. For Pink Floyd fans that might not be their best album, but the tour was the most legendary of all time. Waters has capitalized on that and I think he would have been able to do so even if Gilmour was actively touring the "real Floyd". It has certainly helped, but we should not underestimate Roger Waters as a musician and self promoter.
Waters didn't get lucky. He managed to become a world famous rock star, twice! Once with the band and in the last 30 years he has built himself up from clubs to stadiums as a solo artist. That is insanely impressive, very few artists can claim this feat. Axl didn't even get close.
Gilmour I think retired Floyd because he knew it was fraudulent without Waters. Just look at some of the Division Bell behind the scenes stuff, an album where he had to hire professional writers and get his wife to write some half assed lyrics for him, there are moments where he is clearly embarassed and uncomfortable in those clips. Casual fans and the press won't notice of course, but Gilmour and I'm sure the rest of the band must have realized they were serving up absolute shite and calling it Pink Floyd. Live shows were good, but the albums, dear lord.

The plan was like they said to release a few songs here and there, but since last summer came and went, after Slash said there would be music, they must have decided their plan wasn't any good.

How ARE tickets selling?
Maybe slow sales will prompt the band to take some action?
If facebook activity is any measure they are selling very well.
