#4221 Re: The Sunset Strip » HEATH LEDGER DEAD » 951 weeks ago
He's this generation's River Phoenix. People will always wonder what he could have done had he never touched drugs.
It wasn't hard drugs. It was sleeping pills. And you know WHY he was taking sleeping pills? Two words: THE JOKER. Ledger's commitment to the role led to him having sleep troubles. In November, The New York Times had an interview with him where he admitted that he was only getting 2 hours of sleep each night, that his mind was racing with ideas for the Joker character, and that he would take 2 Ambiens but STILL wake up just 1 hour later. His family also reported to the police that he had pneumonia at the time of his death, so sleeping pills + pneumonia looks to have been the biggest cause of his death. The police believe it's an accidental overdose and have said that NO HARD DRUGS were found in the apartment. Here's the interview I'm talking about:

He tends to do that. He is here in London filming the latest episode of the 'Batman' franchise, 'The Dark Knight.' (Mr. Bale, as it happens, plays Batman; Mr. Ledger plays the Joker.) It is a physically and mentally draining role '” his Joker is a 'psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy' he said cheerfully '” and, as often happens when he throws himself into a part, he is not sleeping much.
'Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,' he said. 'I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.' One night he took an Ambien, which failed to work. He took a second one and fell into a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing.

Pardon my ignorance, but who the fuck is Emma Roberts?
#4223 Re: Guns N' Roses » "Mystery" Band to reunite in Sweden » 951 weeks ago
Maiden-influenced in their early days? Does that mean they turned more towards 80's pop metal later on?

This thread made it to 3 pages? Wow.
#4225 Re: The Sunset Strip » Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles » 952 weeks ago
This doesn't really interest me. They are milking the Terminator story to the point of irrelevancy. Its gonna cheapen the legacy of the old films.
Now we have this TV show, and after that a new trilogy.
I'm avoiding both TV and films of this story at all costs.
While I agree with you in general, there must be something good about the Terminator movie that is being made because Christian Bale signed on to play John Connor. Maybe he's doing it for the paycheck, but I doubt it. He never signs onto something without knowing that it's a solid project (ie, read the script and love/like the premise). The director for the film is a hack, but maybe the script is very good and the movie will turn out a lot better than the director's reputation would lead us to believe.

Especially after reading an article that was probably written by a 12 year old (no offense to any young members here, but the article itself was really poor).
If Axl Rose is a marketing genius, then I'm a biochem genius. Why? Because I haven't done anything related to biochemisty. That's the rationale used by those behind this article.
100% agreed. It's still early, but that is the most fucktarded article I have read this year...and I'm sure it'll stay near the top all year.

I'm gonna guess there are not a lot of geniuses working at heavymetalmusic.biz.
By "not a lot" I'm gonna guess you mean none, zip, zilch, nada.

I think its a combination of other music and other hobbies in general. The music scene isn't all that great, but if presented with the choice of getting Chinese Democracy or a new M.I.A. album this year, I would actually have to think long and hard about it before making a decision. Many other fans are in a similar boat. While we are all still fans, and probably always will be, other things are placed on the front burner while CD moves to the back.
When it comes down to it I might just download it. Axl dug his own grave by not releasing it sooner and I'd rather spend my $15 on seeing The Dark Knight a couple more times.
After all, I can easily download and listen to an album in high quality from a torrent, but I cannot recreate a huge ass movie theater screen. Buying an album is nowhere near as novel as seeing a movie at a theater because you're going to listen to it pretty much the same way regardless of whether you download it in lossless or buy the CD of it.

Both of those articles feature flaws. I would call them pretty lousy, in fact. Late 06 was the perfect time. All the chips were ready to fall (or had fallen), and the world was waiting. The hype died when those last shows were cancelled and updates became hidden. Those articles act as if people became more hungry and interested by the album's not showing up in 06, when in fact people just found other music.
I don't even know if it's other music. People just stopped caring altogether. The music scene right now isn't that great. I've mostly turned my focus to The Dark Knight. At least I know for a fact it's coming out. It cost more in the range of $200 million so it would be commercial suicide if Chris Nolan tried to delay it for 15 years.
