#421 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Slash talks new book, Velvet Revolver plans » 926 weeks ago

as far as the book is concerned, its not the greatest piece of rock autobiography writing....its nowhere near the Dirt, or Manson's book....but its ok as a read....i don't think it will ever be a "i hate it" kind of a book, but it won't win any awards in its originality either....the fact that he announced the book in early 07, and then had it completed before the year was over is enough of an indication in itself that it was rushed, not checked properly, and not necessarily aimed at "setting the record straight".....if he wanted that, he would have spent more time on the book....

still....its Slash....and i dig him....

Stop trying to crush my dreams.:haha:

mine too....fuck off bigbri...if there are those who are convinced an original lineup reunion is going to happen soon....then to balance that out, there must be guys like James and me who believe that BH is on his way back....

I have to tell you, that my highlight in '06/07 was not when GNR announced to play SA...or even seeing them live in Europe...but when i read in Del James' monologue that they have still been actively trying to pursue BH to return to the fold.....that made my day right there....

hard end is fine.....ending it on an off key musically is weird....but...if something else follows it immediately...then it sort of makes sense....

we need new leaks...here's hoping that '08 brings us something interesting....

#426 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy (the song) Lyrics » 927 weeks ago

what bothers me about it is the ending....after listening to it a million times, i just cannot but feel uncomfortable every time this song ends....its on an odd key...musically, it feels unfinished to me....

but that guitar solo is great....

this is actually quite old, and GNR's camp did issue a response to this:

A recent interview with the lead vocalist of the Canadian indie band Die Mannequin has managed to rub several members of the Guns N' Roses touring staff the wrong way.

Die Mannequin opened a few shows during the 2006 GN'R North American tour, and in a recent interview with Chart Magazine, the singer, known as Care Failure, described the experience this way:

"There were just so many rules about Axl!" Failure told Chart. "He used to show up 45 seconds before their set and wouldn't really hang around, so we barely saw him. Once, Tony (Useless, the Die Mannequin bassist) tried talking to him and got pinned against the wall by a guard."

GN'R stage manager Tom Mayhue offered this explanation of the events in question:

"This is how I remember it," Mayhue said. "Guns had just finished doing their two-hour set and were getting off the stage to go to their dressing rooms, and some drunk guy goes up to Axl.

"Now, no one knows who this guy is or what the hell he wants. Our head of security, Gio Gasparetti, is probably the best in the business at what he does, and he intervened. Later on, Gio went up to the guy and explained to him that what he did wasn't too bright, and that was that.

"I mean, when Care Failure's amp was fucked up, my crew fixed it. When their crew was late or drunk, sleeping in the dressing room at set change, our crew was there to set them up. This band was given more sound checks, extra guests, and whatever they needed from our production management, so I don't get why she felt the need to talk shit."

Chris Gratton, GN'R's production manager, added that there are no "rules" regarding Axl or any other member of Guns N' Roses.

"I hate it when I read or hear about things that never occurred," Gratton said. "The only rules are the ones I set in terms of the show schedule, like when the first band goes on, how long a set change is, et cetera.

"For most of the North American tour, Axl traveled in a tour bus and he would be at the gig several hours before Guns went on and watch the openers.

"Axl often had people partying in his dressing room -- I'm talking about everyone from his friends to the guys in Helmet to Sebastian Bach to the Suicide Girls -- until the wee hours in the morning.

"We had a lot of good times on that tour."

#429 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Some more interesting points in Slash's book that I never knew about » 930 weeks ago

another interesting point is....i am currently reading Mick Wall's Axl Biography....and although its nothing we don't know, a few things (quotes from members) are mentioned in there which I think Slash chose not to mention in his book.

1. Apparently Steven publicly said that his first hit (injection of heroin) was given to him by Slash. up until then he was just a dope smoker and a blow snorting druggie user....and after seeing Izzy and Slash our of it, he asked Slash to show him and do it to him. And he did. mick Wall mentions this as an interview Steven gave in a rock magazine of sorts. Slash never mentions the incident in his book.

2. Same reference (a magazine interview), apparently Slash said that CC De Ville started wearing a tophat on stage at some point, and considering GNR were very much anti Poison in the early days, when Slash saw him next at a club or something he told him that he would kill him if he ever saw him again with a tophat. Slash also never mentions this bit, indicating that the only contact he had with CC was at the Poison audition when he saw him going into the audition room after him, all made up in glam.

So, not saying that Mick Wall is a worthy source, but the way he wrote it, indicated to me that these are well known facts, already published in rock magazines in the past, and could be easy to find.

interesting, to say the least.

I also tend to lean to the "left camp" side of the story which believes that the album hasn't been handed in...
