"As far as Axl's behavior goes, I've always felt the same way: he only gets away with what people let him.
If the band was so bothered by him they could've fired him. If the management thought he was such a pain, they could've dumped him (same for the label). At the end of the day, these type of artists are allowed to do these things because they're essentially everyone else's meal ticket."
I tried to ignore it the first time, but since you posted it again, I'll comment.
I don't think the band saw Axl as their meal ticket. They definately recognized his talent and that he could help them reach the next level (Marc Canter's book sheds some light on this), but I don't think any of them looked at Axl as the savior and that they'd be lost without him.
Hindsight says they were correct too. They've all accomplished more than he has since the band fell apart. He might have had the voice to carry them, but they had the music and the style to support him and kept him from imploding for the most part. As much talk as I hear about Axl being all focused and driven, the past 15 years say otherwise. I know there are other factors, but the fact that he hasn't released an album since TSI and none without the other guys says a lot. Axl was great, but he was hardly alone in making the band what it was.
When I reposted it, I almost re-worded it because I didn't say it quite correctly. I didn't mean to say that Axl was the whole show or anything like that. I just meant to imply that anyone in the business who complains about this type of behavior always has an out: just quit or fire the guy causing the problem. But know one does... because they need that person.
Axl was the center of it all.. I wouldn't say meal ticket, but he was the main course.

You can post in the thread all you wish, I just didn't want to see the thread head down the route it was going.
i dont either, but i was jus posting my opinion and then some guy with 8 posts tells me i dont belong here and writes some 8 paragraph essay that wasn't even worth reading or had anything to do wtih the topic. anyone who knows me by now knows i'm not really interested in slash/vr, shouldnt' be a big deal. then troll boy (who i thought had his karma abilities disabled??) up to his usual bullshit.
I am saying right now you wont see me go into the VR section and bash those guys.. but if this topic is going to be in this section I'm gonna say what is on my mind about the topic, and just because its not what some slash fans want to hear I shouldnt' be given shit about it like I was. I'm not going into the VR section to tell everyone how great Axl is and go off on stupid tangents like intercourse here.
And bba should not be posting in this section, IMO. He doesn't like the band, he openly admits that. He never has anything positive to say. He has no interest in it. he is only doing it to be a tool. he only cares about the original lineup, and there is a section to talk about them.

bringbackjunkie: htgth is a different board, entirely different. if you wanna talk about htgth, go there and talk to me about it.
pas: i'm not suggesting the topic get moved, I see the logic in keeping it here because it deals w/Axl. i'm defending myself against the forum troll who thinks this section is for the original lineup and that we are all supposed to bow down to Slash.
private eye: sorry, i wont post in this thread any more.

Why are you in this thread then ?
This thread is for the people who support what made Guns N Roses what they are today.
bba
this thread is in the current GnR section, so expect some different opinions. If it was in the VR section or even the old GnR section, then you'd have a point. Unlike you, I'm only sticking to the sections about bands I'm actually interested in and support.

No offense, but if we were only to discuss the late breaking news surrounding the new band, and their musical accomplishments, it would only take 1 thread.
bba
well no offense but clearly you don't know how to fucking read because theres 2 pages worth of topics on the band in this section dedicated to this band.

Buzz,
Maybe you have a point but in fairness those opinions are more suited to HTGTH than here.
I think to blankly blame Axl or Slash alone for the GNR break up is retarded. I am a massive fan of both musicians. For me the break up is a combo of money, power, ego and drugs..all members were guilty of abusing each or all of these, some abusing certain things more than others.I still cannot believe that people bounce into forums to pass off their almost religious hatreds of either Slash or Axl when both men wrote the songs that made them fans in the first place.
None of us were there, we don't know and to be so black and white shows a shallow grip on things.
I really thought we were passed this stuff..
dude where did i blame anyone for anything? i'm going to say this again. I'm not realy interested in having these discussions.. I dont give a shit about any of that shit you are talking about! I am here to talk about GnR and the guys in the band now, and also to keep tabs on what Izzy is doing. Like I said, had this topic been in the ex-members section I wuldn't have even seen it. I'm not here to hate on anyone. So whats your problem?

HTGTH would suit you better, I thought the more balanced fans came here..
I don't think that's fair. He's allowed to have his opinion. I'll never understand how anyone can claim to love Guns N' Roses and despise Slash or Axl, but that's just me. I don't like a lot of the things Axl has done over the years, but I still respect what he accomplished when he was putting out the music I love.
thank you.. and its not that i despise slash or any of the ex-members (well i dont like matt) i'm just not really itnerested in the past of GNR after all these years. that was a good time but its been discussed to death and i'm interested in wats going on now. and I do respect what they did when they were in the band and you wont see me disrespect that. But outside of izzy's solo stuff, none of the ex-members other projects do anything for me, so i'm just not really interested. i have an immense amount of love and respect for the current lineup and thats really why i'm here.
on the topic of the book, I am gonna read it eventually. One of these years when I have some free time and it finds it way to me somehow.

HTGTH does suit me and I do post there, thanks.. its a great board.
as long as I'm not trolling the VR section here, I don't see the problem. This is the GnR section for the current GnR lineup and thats what I'm here for. Sorry if i don't bow down and worship your lil hero. I'm simply not interested in it.
I'll just keep out of this thread now. so you can have your lil slash fest but if these types of threads are in the vr section or the original gnr section, i wuldn't have even come into it in the first place.

What are you doing in this thread then ?

if we were in the VR section, you might have a point. Slash hasn't been in GnR for 11 years. I don't take his word for anything as far as GnR goes.
