Perhaps the BB deal front loaded money for Universal and left Axl nearly empty handed.

Would he promote to simply make the label money? or scuttle the album and release the second album himself?

The problem is  if CD is perceived to be a flop then the initial curiosity of CD isn't going to carry over to a second album.  So again he'd essentially be shooting himself in the own foot.

I think the explanation is pretty simple. Axl is unhappy with the release and isn't bothering to promote it.

Even if he is just unhappy, he is shooting himself in the foot for any second album.

If he is truly angry that the label is taking so much off the top, he can bide his time, allow CD to undersell, then take the second CD of songs to any label or release them on his own terms.

What makes me lean toward this second possibility are a number of examples of weirdness with the final product: the booklet was so carelessly put together, six leaked songs appeared, and several production errors in the songs themselves. I never  understood how so many mistakes could be made if this album has been in the works for so long. Perhaps no one properly finished it off.

In the words of Bono, all speculation on my part right now.

Axl's silence is speaking volumes right now. We just don't know how to translate it.

If the reunion comes to pass, and many are continuing to predict, then it's Chinese Democracy that's the footnote. Again IF the reunion happens next year, that proves that it's been in the works since Azoff came aboard and since VR dissolved. CD had to be released to put an end to this chapter so that the reunion could happen.

That is definitely one of the conspiracy theories du jour; namely, Azoff's role as the label plant in all these negotiations.

The reunion footnote is quite a howler. I'm sure Axl has begun reaching out to the old band just as his album lands.

Well, it's the Sun. Be wary.

Well, this thing will be lucky to push an additional 25K next week.  Best Buy should be ashamed of their efforts--pathetic.  They may have decided to write this thing off the books--as they need as many write-offs as possible (just about every U.S. retailer does right now--we are on the verge of the 2nd Great Depression).  This also, combined with Aguilera's exclusive Target bomb, may make Azoff think twice about these exclusives.  He struck gold with the Eagles and ACDC (Wal Mart, 4000 of them, and the demographics match up), but struck out with CA and GNR.  GNR has many fans in rural areas of the US, and they cannot afford to drive three hours both ways to buy the album, and don't have high speed internet.  I still cannot believe, though, just how pathetic Best Buy rolled this out--they did virtually nothing to push this, and in fact, almost hid the thing from the first hour onwards.  Pathetic!

The material is there, and Axl should have released this thing in 2000 or 2001 as a solo record--where it would have pushed platinum status and would not have leaked, and would have been critically acclaimed.

Anyone who thinks they will see GNR live again, without the top-hatted one and Duff in the mix is out of there minds.  As far as GNR is concerned, it's reunion, permanent hibernation, or bankruptcy.

I was disappointed with BB from day one. I expected a midnight sale, called every BB in Orlando, and was almost laughed at on the phone. I went in at nearly noon on Sunday and the employees are still setting up the knockdown display. No signage, no gnr on the loudspeakers, nothing.  In-store promotion has varied from store to store, but there are a number of reports that this was essentially the plan.

This is all still Axl's ball game. If he wants to come out of the mansion and promote his own product, he will find he can achieve the success he deserves.

People will find the album but the band needs to give them motivation to find a BB.

I know that 75 people to a man at the Manchester Police department LOVE it.  I wonder if they all bought it.

No, not all of them have bought it, but this isn't a buy only first week option. There is plenty of time for people who have heard selections and liked what they heard to buy it, just as there are people who haven't heard enough of the album or heard that one particular track which gets in your noodle to hook them in.

We are 7 days in. Give it time and stop championing doom because of what some 'delusional' authors on a message board declared.

hink what you'll find is the people who don't like it will say "it's not the same without Slash"

And there are probably more people who just haven't found the motivation to go and buy it.

AC DC cornered the accessibility market by going with Wal Mart; GnR's exclusive deal demands a little extra effort on the part of the consumer which makes this whole media silence campaign shocking imo.

Wow, I am shocked Kanye moved so few units. There is indeed an economic slowdown and it is hitting the music industry hard

The GnR number is disappointing. Hopefully, the album does not lose too much steam. I am optimistic they can surpass 2 million units by the end of this journey

Axl had a one week window? Give it at least until the start of the new year. If nothing happens more than what is going on now, then I will agree that Axl has failed.

At what point did I say I wanna shove it in other fans faces. Get a grip.

I'm just a bit annoyed how suddenly sales don't mean shit and every excuse in the book is being used to justify why the sales weren't spectacular when hasd it been the other way aroudn parades would be planned to celebrate Gn'R's chart topping performance.

since from day one on these boards I've argued with people who still think Axl and the Gn'R name carry just as much weight as the name U2 so.......  It's like put your money where your mouth is.

Get a grip.  yeah the first seven days for a massively anticipated album with a name as big as Guns N' Roses attatche to it. You do the math

You should do the math too. We have 24 days until Christmas. Still a good amount of time in the shopping season for the album to sell strong over a long period of time.
