Is anyone else triggered by Axls flat singing in Monster chorus ? Especially “over”
Surely that gets fixed ?
Are we sure this Slash and Duff on these tracks ? I sure as hell aren’t

I'm not 100% certain I buy this is Slash...

Why is Axl so off-key on the chorus of Monster?
Axl is off key in a lot of the CD songs, but the mixer just fixes that
This mixer (Caram?) didnt
Fixes it with Autotune yep...
This is so far off as to be almost unlistenable to my ear

Yes, it's interesting to note that Andy Wallace mixed CD initially - a master of the craft. You don't finish a mix then paste in other stuff on top - one differing instrument can change the whole sonic palette from an EQ perspective; (it needs to be done as a whole from the ground up) and seemingly that's exactly what happened. That is criminally amateurish, and it is on Axl I guess. Coupled with the mess that was the artwork and liner notes it certainly does not point to Axl being a perfectionist at all. Crippled by expectation and subsequent procrastination, sure. But that is not perfectionism.
I hadn't considered that maybe Axl's hearing is shot - but surely that's a reach for such poor mixes as Hard Skool and he should be delegating to the absolute best in class if that is in fact a factor.

The mastering of Chinese has long been lauded because Axl famously went for the less brick walled version that was presented with more dynamic range.
But the problems are not with the master - it’s the mix for me.
There are just too many layers - and Tommy gets the rawest deal of all with him barely distinguishable throughout the record. There is bottom end so the mix is balanced from that perspective but the actual bass lines he plays are largely a dog whistle.
The drums are also a bone of contention for me. Compressed to the heavens and all the life squeezed out of them. Prostitute and Sorry are the exception.
As to Bumble, the issues are twofold- it’s not just that he sounds pasted in (which he absolutely does) it’s that what he plays in many instances is a travesty. The parts he replaced are superior to what he offered. What he did to Catcher is criminal. Again, who signed off on this?
Despite all that, Chinese sounds vastly superior to Absurd and especially Hard Skool which is just an incredibly amateurish sounding mix. Perhaps is an encouraging step in the right direction mix wise although it is not without it’s glaring issues also.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the new song next week is Atlas. The General doesn’t sound like a radio song from what’s we’ve been led to believe

bizarre. It will be circulating in digital within hardcores nanoseconds after the vinyl ships - why not make it easy for everyone? Where does this leave the alleged Atlas Shrugged release?

Nice idea but doubt there'd be much demand outside these forums. They were never a functional touring band really - studio sessions with people coming and going. it never looked like there was much genuine camaraderie at any rate.
And of course the main reason it will never happen is that Axl will own the rights to all that music and probably has stipulations akin to NDA's that prevent them from playing the music.
