I love orchestra's and the violins and chello's do not sound "dated". I just don't get this "dated" deal. A good beat is a good beat--although The Beatles were using different technology than today to express their notes and visions, it does not sound dated. I don't think CD sounds dated at all--just different than other stuff. Good music is is timeless. Shit, some of the stuff Zappa, King Crimson, and Floyd were doing in the 70's sounds more modern than what some call "modern hip hop beats" and loops to me.

Don't even remotely compare Slash to Hendrix in any way....I am being serious about that. Songwriting ability, playing, influence, style...in every way Hendrix exceeds Slash.
The Hendrix discography is pretty damn weak. It was a decent output considering he wasn't on the scene for very long, but let's call a spade a spade.
As far as influence goes, of course Hendrix trumps Slash in that department. I don't think any guitarist was as influential as Hendrix. Doesn't mean he's buried with a ton of legendary material.
Purple Haze
Voodoo Childsecond tier:
Crosstown Traffic
Hey Joe
All Along the WatchtowerThe rest of his material give or take a few songs is pretty much irrelevant.
You have to be kidding??
#43 Re: Guns N' Roses » What affect did the leaks have on you? » 889 weeks ago
The leaks are mostly of them better than the final one's...(for me) i blame that mofo Caram Costanzo for those reamped guitars he did ,Fucked up lots of songs irs, twat, citr also some annoying guitar sound on the other song's.
Do you think they actually recorded anything new besides bf' and ff's parts after 2003/2004, or just tinkered and re-engineered what was already recorded?
#44 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Chart Positions Thread » 889 weeks ago
Insinuating that this is doing bad in Canada is funny, as it is #8 on their album charts this week. That is pretty good, last time I checked.

Why is this album, which is possibly inferior, selling eight times more in the same period? Wal Mart. It's a fact jack, sorry.

Obvioulsy you can't for the life of yourself comprehend anything I'm saying. Wal-Mart baby Wal-Mart!!!! People just need to give it a chance. BOO FUCKING HOO! I have not said the album sucks based on sales figures. Even a monkey knows I haven't said that. It's your lack of ability to comprehend what I'm saying.
1.5 million may not be anything to sneeze at but having an album with this much anticipation and hype free fall off the charts in less than a month is. Figure it out. the album had more hype than any album in history. Ten years worth and two(three depending on what you consider a tour) tours to promote it before it's release. Yeah people just haven't given it a fair chance and Wal -Mart stole their thunder and gave it to AC/DC
but again I'm done fighting. So carry on with your Wal-Mart bitch fest Brighteyes. This is my LAST post on the subject.
Bono, at least read through this--it's an online debate--not personal.
You ARE barking up the wrong tree! It sucks getting called to the floor on your narrow minded bullshit that used to float right through cyberspace unchecked. I don't know how to put this, but I am a massive music collector. I own every U2 album, have listened to them so many times that I have had to replace them multiple times. I have have multiple U2 DVD's, bootleg DVD's of their infamous Red Rock's show during the Unforgettable Fire tour, etc. I own every album, you and everyone here has mentioned throughout this thread. I can hum many of them backwards, and recite the songwriting credits for the songs in my sleep. I know who produced what album, cover art, etc. For the life of me, I still cannot figure out what your point is. Secondly, your insinuations about my posts are flat out lies. Your drunk rant, I ignored, your sober rants, are even more amusing, and curious.
I don't even know where to start, but obviously, your inability to read (which you amusingly accuse me of) is a good place to begin. At this point, I want to make clear, I just flat out don't give a shit about sales. Secondly, I don't care what the Axl-maniacs--who you correctly identify as delusional--excuses are about why it is not selling enough to satisfy their need for it to be huge. Never have cared about sales, and never will, that's how it is with me. Many of the albums I treasure most, probably sold less than 100K total in the states. So whatever you initially were bitching about, maybe me saying that I personally think doing little to no promotion is admirable in this day and age by GNR, I am sorry if I misunderstood.
Also, btw, this album was hyped as the "most anticipated album" in vain. Old media might have hyped it like mad, but no one is reading that anymore. It never had the TV, Internet, and cross media marketing that any major release this year had. In fact, it had virtually none of that. Music purchasing is partially impulse--getting something while it is hot. This had no marketing playing to the "impulse" buyer. It did have many stories about it, but many were just repeating "it took 15 years to come out" and "we'll believe it when we see it in the stores" story-lines. That is not hype, that is random pontification, reinforcing the idea that "it still may not come out". Whatever you want to call it, it is not: "CD is out, $10 Best Buy, it's a bargain, music is great". It was not "sales hype", which moves units. It definitely had no "saturation" marketing the two weeks leading up to the release like Black Ice did.
The most important thing inhibiting "massive" sales, is the fact that the album does not and will not have a commercial "hard rock" mega-hit. It may have a ballad that does well, but not a huge hit. This album, though, does have great songs, which are complicated, and grow on one. Moreover, due to the typical weirdness (no tour, no interview, disappearing, back-story, etc), it will continue to be shrouded in some sort of mystery. It is not going to disappear--my bet is it will sell steady next year in the 5K to 10K a week range for quite some time, and will do so due to word of mouth. There are many music fans, who know it today or don't, hungry or high quality music crafted like this album--they will find it. Rock is still on an upswing, and this is one of those albums that has a certain place in rock history--so it will still sell some units next year. Nothing like ACDC, but it will sell.

An AC/DC greatest hits would kill in sales with or without promo. I know alot of people who bought Black Ice and do in fact really like that glorified piece of plastic with some prints on it. I know of only one fucking person who bought Chinese Democracy and he had very little to say about it when I asked him what he thought. "Meh it's o.k. but not as good as the old stuff" is the standard response. Oh and in Canada you can buy these albums anywhere you damn well feel like. No exclusive Best Buy or Wal-Mart stuff going on here so explain to me why AC/DC sells better in Canada? Cause of a Wal-Mart promotional campaigne? Gimme a fucking break.
What I cant understand is how people, like you, cant see what a difference it would have made had GNR went with Wal Mart than Best Buy. Wal Mart has pushed the living shit out of not just Black Ice, but AC/DC in general. Compare a store like Wal Mart, who has stores EVERYWHERE, to a store like Best Buy, who is in a lot of economic trouble and has stores few and far in between.
Its like talking to a fucking brick wall.
I never said it woudln't have made a difference. I am saying that suggesting AC/DC's album is seeling only on a Wal-Mart campaigne is fucking moronic. Trying to downplay the quality of AC/DC's album when it's a very AC/DC sounding album is moronic. It's exactly the type of album AC/DC fans like. News Flash people. AC/DC has been popular at every point in their career. They don't fucking need Wal-Mart to push units. I'll say it again CD and Black Ice are available everywhere in Canada. Black Ice has been out longer than CD and is still a top five selling album in Canada. CD is a total after thought. It's like talking to a brick wall with those who can't fucking understand that. Marketing this and marketing that. Blah, blah fucking blah. EXCUSES non stop! And now where entering a period where fans are starting to say we gotta wait a year to see how it plays out. Gimme a fucking break. After a year it'll be "well the album will speak for itself over time. ten years from now we might be talkin about how successful CD is/was"
It's a dellusional thought process being expressed by so many and it's ridiculous. Why the fuck do so many of you share this fantasy that if the rest of the world would just listen to CD they'd love it? Why do you NEED this to be the case? I'm sure we all listen to alot of bands and albums that we personally think are great but we don't sit there tihnking "gee if only the world wodl give it a try they'd go ga ga over it". If you can't see that CD isn't a mass appealing album than I dont' know what to say. You all say sales dont' matter yet you cling to this desire for the world to love it and buy it. One or the other folks.

You guys are funny. Bright Eyes and Madagas, I am objective. AC/DC is now doing Stadium Tours. They have been on a SOLD OUT TOUR here in the US over the past few months. A Tour in which most dates sold out the first day, if not first few hours. They sold 784,000 in their first week. Back In Black has sold more albums than Appetite, if AC/DC came out with a Greatest Hits, unlike GNR they would market the hell out of it. I like CD, and you are right, being a commercial hit doesn't matter to me, but its Bright Eyes that keeps spinning the numbers to show that CD is doing something it really isn't, and that is selling well. And the expectations were from this very forum, along with HTGTH that this album will be a huge smash, especially coming out on Thanksgiving week. I even said it would sell awesome. We were all WRONG!
I really don't give a fuck what Wal-Mart, I mean ACDC, is doing--that hunk of garbage is only glorified plastic with some prints on it, that people feel compelled to buy due to Wal Mart's super-duper promotion. Furthermore, when did "marketing the hell out of" something make it cool, or great, or even mean something? What are you trying to prove, or justify, or qualify with that statement? It comes across as self-serving, and non-sensical. Great, ACDC will market the "hell" out of a GH's if they release it. Cool, radical, incredible, kick ass, woo fucking hoo!!!
Oh, and where have I spun any #'s? I don't know what you are talking about, and quite frankly, that is a flat out lie. I have not spun shit, and am not into spinning anything, besides some good vinyl tonight!! You must be drunk off egg nog.
BTW, you may think you are objective, but I hate to break it to you, being rational is a prerequisite to being "objective", as is the ability to cognitively process information. Tell me, whose catalog sold more last year in the U.S. according to Billboard's year end chart found in the link below? Who is spinning #'s genius?

Another blatant attempt to falsely, and negatively tilt any conversation into a slam on the band. What a ludicrous, pussy-shit, completely irrational take.
This is an incredible accomplishment, with only two catalog albums charting (AFD, GH's charting), they outsold ACDC's catalog, who had nine albums charting. Trans Siberian Orchestra sells millions each holiday season, and has for years. Basically, this shows the strength, massive strength of GNR--over a full year, they sold a boatload of product. I am sure, that GH's, over a full year, sold more than CD did in ONLY 4 weeks. But, to use that as some sort of slam (full year, vs. one month) is ridiculous! The over the top, Bull shit negativity has lost all credibility.
Does AC/DC have a greatest hits? Nope. Until they do, shut your hole. I am not negative and Mikkamakka makes the point perfectly. Also if you compare apples to apples of current product, AC/DC is 10 times the band GNR is "Right Now". If AC/DC came out with a Greatest Hits Today, it would sell millions, just like GNR's has. CD is a commercial flop regardless of the great songs it has on it. Black Ice was a big hit. The numbers so far are not up for debate. The only thing carrying the GNR name right now is Greatest Hits and Appetite. I am only going on facts here.
You may have a few points, but they are drowned out fairly quickly with your absolutist delivery. Moreover, you are making fairly huge assumptions and stating your personal opinion as fact. For instance, you claim that ACDC is "10 times the band GNR is Right Now"; however, if you compare "apples to apples", which the Billboard back catalog chart did, GNR's full catalog outsold ACDC's in the US last year. Also, CD is actually doing just fine--the expectations, created falsely by irrational media that this was going to outsell Thriller and Appetite in one week was a myth that has framed the CD, at least temporarily, in an unfair light. BTW, "numbers" cannot make one band better than another, that's like arguing which color is better "blue or green"?
All that aside, Happy Holidays!:haha:
#49 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Chart Positions Thread » 889 weeks ago
CD sold 57,000 last week which was a 16% increase in sales, week over week. It's domestic total is now 422,000. Needless to say, GNR sold a truckload of albums (CD + full catalog) across the world last year.
