#41 Re: Guns N' Roses » Shannon Hoon Book Extracts (Axl/GNR) » 873 weeks ago

On the other hand, GNR's inaccurately represented, because Axl's the complete opposite of Paul and Gene. If he doesn't tell an author his side of the story, nine time out of 10, that author's going to exaggerate someone else's side or make up something of his own. Look at all the tabloid-ish articles that were especially common before Axl came out of his hole in 2006.

I'm sure you're right though. The other big name bands probably have plenty of awful books of their own.

Cheap Trick - Authorized Greatest Hits

I've always loved the few songs that I hear on classic rock radio, but could see them moving up my list of favorite bands as I become familiar with the rest of their material.

It'd be great to get a new DVD out there. Something that tops the Tokyo DVDs performance-wise and feature-wise.

I don't think this should be much of an issue. A possible lack of promotion is a bigger concern at this point.

"If the World" and "Silkworms". I think we're getting a good idea of Pittman's style.

It's sad that these excerpts are a lot more interesting and revealing than a lot of the unauthorized biographies that are actually *about* Axl. I wonder if any other band has such a high percentage of terrible books written about them.

#47 Re: Guns N' Roses » How many times have you seen GN'R live? » 873 weeks ago

Well, a lot of assholes discover Metallica and suddenly think that they're into the heaviest thing on the planet - and even worse, equate "heaviest" with "best". In that way, they're a lot like a Playskool My First Metal Band.

On topic, I've never seen GNR live. Axl hasn't come back to Indiana since I've been a diehard. If he doesn't on the next tour, I'll have to give in, and make the drive. That'd be Ohio, I guess.

#48 Re: Guns N' Roses » Westerberg & Stinson together again » 873 weeks ago

Guns N' Roses and the Replacements are probably my two favorite bands, but I don't like the idea of either reuniting in the foreseeable future. That has to say a lot about the appeal of this Chinese Democracy saga.

This is your website. I'm not really interested in having a long discussion about how you should run it (especially a few days after the fact). I just felt that the "Look at me!" tone of the post in question came off like a terrible case of micropenis overcompensation, and didn't want to let it pass without pointing out just how tasteless, ignorant, and white trash it was.

Since you mentioned it though, I'm surprised that you considered it just another "bit disrespectful anti-Palin remark". I couldn't care less about Palin, and would have felt the same if anyone had been mentioned in her place. Truth be told, I feel kind of badly for you. I've only spoken to you one on one a few times, but you've been as friendly as anyone that I've met in the GNR community. Still, you push this place as the "one GNR forum built on free-thinking, class, and integrity", and the inconsistencies are always going to shine through. At least with "other places", there's a clear line that everyone should be able to understand, and even though not everyone agrees with that line (myself included), it makes sense within the context of the kind of site that they're trying to run. That kind of consistency is one thing that every administrator should shoot for, and, speaking only for myself, I'd rather read a thousand instances of someone calling me an "asshole", questioning my "noob" status, or mentioning an old Guns N' Roses song in a new Guns N' Roses thread than the kind of free-thinking, class, and integrity that I read earlier.

But I guess that's why I'm not the one that makes the tough decisions. I'm sure it's difficult being such a message board maverick. smile

I've been reading various GNR-related forums over the last six years, and, I have to say, that's probably the most classless comment that I've ever come across. In fact, I was going to point it out last night, but was sure that one of the moderators would delete it within the hour anyway. I guess you really can say anything around here - as long as you don't say "Shotgun Blues" in a New GNR thread. God forbid. Heh.
