That's not amazing at all. I just listened once but it was not good. At times he's just shredding. Shredding means "I will just improv this stuff".
Awkward.Remember in the old days when Guns fans accused Bucket of just being a shredder. How times have changed.
Yeah, there's a lot of shredding there. But if Bucket isn't gonna be the one doing it, Slash can.
And so what if he's shredding? Shredding like a motherfucker. When people accuse Bucket of being a shredder nowadays I just ignore it, but inside I'm thinking "fucking right; you better recognize the best shredder around."
Slash on this solo keeps hitting on some moments of Bucket's original solo that made it so great. I like that. I wish he did that with the TIL solo (the moments that were worthy, that is; as few as there are).
Also, by following the blueprint of Bucket's solo, I think he paying a bit of a homage. He's giving it his deal of approval: "This is GNR-worthy," he's saying.
By deconstructing Robin's solo, he's saying "get this unlistenable steaming pile out of here."
Just what with that solo was anything special? It wasn't true to the original and it wasn't true to any form of melody. Bucket completely re-did solos and kept them like that, KOHD for one. Nightrain another. I heard nothing there that was very cool. The TIL solo seemed to have an idea behind it, which was fine. This was nothing major. Besides Slash playing it. If DJ Ashba had done that stuff, people would have ripped him a new asshole.

Amazing TWAT solo. I'll expound later, but I think it says something that he completely gutted the TIL solo but followed the TWAT blueprint while putting his own spin on it.

I don't think Slash solo fit better, and it still feels somewhat improvised. It does give the song another level, so I'm slightly bending towards Slash. But not enough to vote. LOL

I gotta be honest...
Anyone in 2016 who is paying $100-300 bucks to hear GN'R play AFD songs for the zillionth time... i'd argue isn't a real fan.
Truly
They are either casual fans, or johnny come lately kids who missed out on the old-era of GN'R and want to hear the AFD "Trinity" perform Appetite songs.
The long-time fans, the true fans of the band are there to hear UYI deep cuts, Slash & Duff Chinese remixes, or... gasp... a new song.
Hell yeah.
If you pay that sum of money to hear SCOM or WTTJ for the zillionth time, you're not really a fan. You're just going to get a kick of the late 80s, early 90s.
The long time fans are there for exactly what you describe. Chinese remixes, the mind blowing idea of Slash doing Better/TWAT/CD solos (which everyone goes nuts over, which is strikingly geeky. I did not know GNR fans were that cool).
Anyway, you're damn right.

Better was, well, better with Slash's solo. I miss Bucket's killswitch and mini-solo before the big solo.
Also, can I say Duff and Melissa doing backing vocals sounds wonderful. I'd like to hear from the Evo members who were there about that.
Still sounds like he's improvising

This I Love – I like the Eastern flavour Slash has added to it, but it does feel a little like he's just improvising around it, rather than coming up with a coherent solo with phrases etc. Lot of twiddly stuff, which I'll admit I wasn't expecting. Still like it though.
I like it, but I agree. Sounds like he's just improvising it.
I'm not sure Better and CD really improved as much as people like to think.

Did we just watch (and I know we're all a little excited, and I know there have been some ridiculously good ones over the years, and I know they're in their 50's) ARGUABLY, I'm not at all saying definitively, but arguably, the best GN'R show... ah, I can't even type that.. but holy shit that was REALLY good.
Well, Axl is seated for the entire show so that put a dampener.
