Jeez, I can see lines have been drawn in this forum.

There's nothing so far to prove my arguement but there is nothing to prove me wrong so far.

Which is why I said we should wait and look at the long term sales.

It's always gonna be looked back on as a black mark in the Gn'R legacy in my opinion and its gonna eventually boil down to the music I'm affraid.

That is certainly one possibility.

I don't see anything on this album that people will be itching to hear a year from now.

Which people?

I see this album as something some people will latch onto for now based on curiosity and then down the road it'll be ignored as an album that "never happened" as far as Gn'R is concerend.

Again, a possibility but I think there is enough quality to stick. We disagree.

/I dont' feel this album has any staying power whatsoever.

I find I am overdosing on some songs and rediscovering others.

That's your Joe and Jill public reaction.

Not exactly a great sample size. I wouldn't read too much into the reaction of two random people.

The album has been promoted since Axl first mentioned the album name in 1999.

And so have the negative stories of cost delays, personnel changes, dormancy, cancelled tours, and locked out studios.

I think there is an equal share of positive and negative attention. It is up to Axl to re-direct music fans with a positive message. But of course he is in Vegas while Rome burns. I hope more is to come.

Coolness. It is a real grower! I am very optimistic that Scraped can be a successful single.

I agree Neemo. Honestly, I can't believe how so many are cutting this thing loose after 7 days.

I think most hard core fans realize Better is the only real shot at a hit single in today's market. Like I have said, this thing will sink or swim by the end of the year. Week 1 isn't close to what I thought it would be either. In the end, Axl has no excuses. He had everything in the world going for him. Big money backing, plenty of time to record at his own pace, full control of artistic decisions, etc. It was his record. He made his bed, and he will have to lie in it.

I dunno, I think are a few songs on here which could do well as singles. Better should be given a chance; it definitely needs to hit the bulls eye or I think the album will tank.

I've never discounted the other reasons. Just saying it's rather amusing how very few want  to even remotely consider the quality of the music played a part as well.

And you are arguing it is a bad album?

yeah Killingvector it's a theory deal with it. I do't see people being asked to justify their non music excuses and rational. I'm not gonna sit here and do reseach and find out how many people actually decided after listening that they didn't wanna buy it. Stop trying to dismiss shit based on insecurities. Just admit it's as a possibility. Funny how when I mentiuon this peopel suddenly become defensive  about thsi being possible. And this fucking excuse about a "tepid" first single is getting real old. What single on the album wasn't gonna be tepid except maybe Better and I'm not even convinced about that. Bands don't release "tepid" first singles thinking their gonna be "tepid".   Sometimes the music speaks for itself. I find it funny how so very few are willing to even cosnider it a posssibility.

The album may have been rejected; that is a possibility but you cannot discount other factors. Therefore, your thesis is not provable. We will see in a few months how things pan out.

I really took CD as an appetizer single with Better waiting to follow with video and full press media promotion right after. Better is about to land and we have not seen the full court press. I pray it happens. If not, Axl is not happy with something.

Many bands release tepid first singles. Most of those albums die horrible deaths. I can think of a certain 'dangerous' band which did not survive such a crash.

I mean people thought thsi thing would fly off shleves based on the name alone. Now it's not and it's becasue of everything else other than the music? C'mon.

Well, they were wrong about the long term marketing strength of GnR. Doesn't mean the music is crap, only the forcasting of fans.

FUCK, Id take Scraped over CD as the first single minus the Gay intro.

I think Scraped could be quite a significant seller for the band if they get a gateway single, i.e. one that gets everyone's attention.

Better could be that song. Even thought it leaked two years ago, I think it is new to enough people to get some momentum going.

Scraped would work. This I Love could be a Fall to Pieces type single for CD.

There is material to work with but I agree there are not many songs I would consider as strong selling single material.

Did it ever occur to anyone that the album didn't reach #1 because the material wasnt' strong enough? I mean sometimes the simplest explanation is the most accurate. How many people listend to it on their myspace page? Ummm yeah so maybe the majority of  people listend and sad "meh I'm not buying that" There's gonna come a time when alot of you are gonna have to at least accept this as a possibility.

So how many individual people listened on the myspace page?

How many decided they didn't want to buy it after that?

When you can answer these two question, perhaps your thesis will seem more believable.

Right now, you are basing this idea on pure conjecture. It is fact that the promotion for this record has been lukewarm, no appearances, no tour, no statement, no interviews, no video, tepid first single.

Let's look at the long range numbers before declaring the album a bomb and then perhaps there will be some data indicating why not enough people were interested.
