Yup, that's proto-Metal. Classic 'doom metal' indeed. Simple, scary. Forboding.

Sorry points to the sounds of more recent (late 80s, late 90's) Ozzy material - and the two Sabbath tracks on Reunion. More recent 'doom metal'. Heavily defined by keyboards and the slow sustaining guitars, in my opinion.

Someone tell me the difference between active and mainstream rock.

According to Wikipedia:

Active rock is a radio format used by many commercial radio stations across Canada and the United States. Active rock plays current rock artists with a mix of classic rock songs. An active rock station may include songs by known and popular artists such as Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, and AC/DC in its playlist. Whereas a modern rock or classic rock station would not. Similar to active rock stations, mainstream rock stations play current rock music, but concentrate more on classic rock than active rock stations do.

Mainstream rock stations are between classic rock and active rock on the programming spectrum, in that they play more classic rock than active rock stations, but play more modern rock than classic rock stations. In many ways, mainstream rock is a successor to the widespread album-oriented rock (AOR) format created in the 1970s.

So it goes Classic/Mainstream/Active/Modern in the mix of old to new rock.

That made my head hurt.
Someone revise that.

Yeah, it wasn't that bad.
The 'oh no don't take calls about it' thing was protracted but I understood it's kind of a crazy thing to do in his position with this album.

Unfortunately, he came off like he couldn't definately say who was on the recording, or produced it, mixed it, mastered it, etc. That came off sort of wierd. And unfortunately, GNR fans keep asking the same 'dumb' questions.

But it wasn't a trainwreck, he said serveral important things, and Eddie really spoke some good words.

I would like to hear that guy's brother's band if they could out-do Democracy....hahaha.

Wow.
Crazy eyesight.

Looks like 'em to me! Maybe with shades on.

I thought it would be interesting to have Chinese Democracy be on the left, but not have GNR on it at all - that's what the spray paint is for.

But I like it anyway.

Review from an Australian radio station - Triple M:

"First up, it's clear the new track sounds nothing like Appetite-era GNR. The song begins slowly with an ominous rumble but when the explosive double shot of Axl's wailing vocal and stop-start riff hits you're on a runaway train that doesn't stop.

On the downside, there isn't a memorable chorus and the song sounds like it's been put through an industrial processor (think Nine Inch Nails). And despite a few listens we still don't know what Axl's singing about (something about an "iron fist"?).

Overall though, the song has the muscle to move a small army. The riff is hot, the guitar solos zing and Axl's voice has the primal intensity that's made him one of the best rock vocalists of all time.

The verdict? Guns n Roses are back and they've got our attention. Now for the new album - bring on Saturday November 22!"

See - that's what I want to hear in this thread smile

Although --- when could anyone ever figure out what Axl was singing about???

Uhm.
The whole reason why I'm excited about Chinese Democracy, is because I heard the new songs played live - and uh, I wanted them properly on a CD.

I wasn't waiting to be shocked. I wanted my favorite songs done properly!!!

It reminds me of greek tragedies. My dedication and love ultimately ruined the experience. There is no cake left for the hardcore fan, just scraps.

I like how the album will open with an up-temp maniefesto of what the record is going to sound like and be about. It sets the pace and sets the bar.

Chinese would also be a good show opener.

(all like Jungle!)

I think it's also got to be a big hit to be so misunderstood by his fans, and also, to possibly be so misunderstanding of his fans. Got to be frustrating.
