It’s an interesting topic.

Axl isn’t exactly sympathetic to communist (or fascist) regimes which tend to be authoritarian and antithetical to freedom (hence his Fear N’ Freedom essay in the unreleased booklet).

Oklahoma was inspired by the Oklahoma City Bombings and dedicated to the victims and a court date with Erin Everly. CD skews personal so Axl feeing like a survivor of a desired “obliteration” could be the subject matter.

Berlin could be a romantic whiticism (a moment in Berlin he knew the relationship was over, started or ended) or the physical separation of East and West under communist occupation. The East was also Soviet run which goes to the China v Russia imagery of the unreleased booklets and whatever political messages he was trying to get across which despite my best efforts at guessing is rather vague and underdeveloped.

As an aside, seeing as how CD2 was lining up to be the techno-futurist album full of electronica and wild guitars, it would be a trip if it were at all inspired by Kaczisnky’s prophesying about the role of technology and the media in society in the future and denigration of humanity.

I’ve always found Madagascar (socialist state for many years, too) and TWAT as something as a personal reflection on the past from the battle torn present. It’s be interesting if he kept that ball rolling on future albums.

James wrote:

Why are the IRS instrumentals missing?

It is curious.

No instrumentals for IRS, Riad, Catcher, If The World, or Prostitute from the finished album.

Or Atlas, Silkworms, Hard School, Perhaps, and State of Grace, the first of which was seemingly destined for it if not all of them.

It seems evidence would suggest these were the earliest session songs (Riad, IRS, Prostitute).

Hell, we don’t even have Brain on IRS yet.

Joker

Good commentary on America, mental illness, capitalism, and gun violence. Kinda boring Batman movie.

More cynically, Kings of Comedy in clown makeup with dashes of Psycho and Network. A bit glacial and anti-feeling.

We have no idea what was kept from The Village sessions and later renamed so it’s all blind guess work.

I always found the 2010 self-titled thing weird.

Self-titled is weird because it’s so bland and anti-Axl. The guy probably has a reference or whiticism for each pair of shoes he owns.

But also because 10 songs. That’s it?

In truth, that’s probably all they ever had done.

I can see CD2. What the hell was the third album?

AFD has a strong identity. Hard rock party album with a great swing.

CD does too. Multi-layered alt rock pop with a huge sound.

The rockers on CD are weak as hell. It’s not where Axl’s head was at. RMCD#1 hit the main vein.

The problem is AFD was huge and the whole thing went to everybody’s heads. Neither Classic or New Guns went through the fire of 2-3 average to good albums to hone down voice and identity.

Axl literally said Finck was his Randy Rhodes

“Shelter for the blind / managed to be kind / show me how to keep it together” doesn’t make sense for a 10 year old. Or more obviously “what it takes to be a man”.

Why would a 10 year old’s shoulders shrug?

And besides, the comment was about Dylan learning the truth, not about Dylan himself.

Robin was his Randy Rhodes. His lifeline. The savior of his career. And Axl’s loyalty runs deep. The new bromance was real. He wasn’t hanging all over Bucket in Vegas.

That’s love.

I still contend it’s about Robin.

The lyrics are borderline at times but the other half is plainly talking about someone living an adult life already. Not someone who is 10 years old.

The Dylan song was TWAT. There was a time I would’ve done everything for your mom but she blows guys to further her career and married a piggy after me. IRS the fuck the old band song. I will take my hatred to the highest court in the land!

Not a coincidence those were the songs demoed for Rolling Stone, my peeps!

And that was Axl’s power play. Didn’t have the stones or the vision to go the Napster route.
