Sorry, but having seen Axl Rose and Guns N' Roses perform many many times over the past few months, I can tell you from personal first hand experience that the man is out there performing because he wants to put on great performances for those interested in seeing it. Money has absolutely nothing to do with it at all.

How can you constantly talk about of both sides of your mouth about it? "He's in it for the money!" Oh really?? Then why oh why wouldn't he just take your option (a reunion) and run with it?? That's where the huge pay check is.

Yeah, no shit.  That he's doing this for money argument is beyond idiotic.  If that were the case, he would go for the most lucrative option, which is a reunion.

This.

No one's ever gonna know the exact truth of what went on in Philly in 02 IMO. Ancient history at this point anyways.

Yeah but it's gotta be troubling to continue to not only see Axl go on another want of his obvious lies (how many times can he use the Out Ta Get Me whine fest?)...

But what's even more troubling is seeing the fanboy dick suckers come in and actually BUY IT!

Seriously? Like fuckin' SERIOUSLY? At this point?

Axl is a chronic liar diva headcase. "I'm sick" is obvious go to excuse for everything (unless Axl has a serious recurring illness issue, for which I apologize in advance).

Do I care? Not at this point, but it does scare me for the future of the next GN'R album, and the current band. Axl is now 50 and still on the "they were all lying and they were out to get me, because they wanted me to fail". aka = haters.

Bull fucking shit. Clear Channel WANTED the tour to fail. Because they don't like making money apparently. What a fuckin' liar Axl is. roll

I think you're missing the point.  The point is they weren't making money on the tour given the erratic ticket sales.  And, rather than continue to lose money, they wanted to end the tour.  See the January 2003 RS article for more on that.  Also, here is a quote from a promoter for 2002 Boise show that gives some indication on a promoter's mindset:

"Andy Hewitt, a Los Angeles promoter who partnered on an Idaho date for the Guns N' Roses tour, said Thursday that timing and temperament again undermined Rose, whose mercurial ways are legendary.

"He managed to cancel the dates that were doing well [at the box office], and when they didn't, he showed up," Hewitt said. "We did a show in Boise that did horrible business, and he showed. I wished he didn't."

I've said before and will now say it again:  an illness in the band is exactly what the announced reason for GN'R not playing that night in the venue.

Unless, you have some definitive proof that Axl was not sick that day, I don't see how you can label this an "obvious lie".

So, Ali, basically he acknowledges he cancelled the first show (Vancouver) at 6AM but he never mentions asking his manager about Philly, correct?

Philly was a total mess by him being sick and DIDNT warning anyone about it (on 6AM or after, it seems), therefore why the band members were at the gig.

the first show means the first show in philly. they had two concerts scheduled in philadelphia in 2002. he`s not talking about vancouver here...

Yeah, he said he told his manager to cancel the show in Philly at 6 am, presumably because he was sick.  His manager told him it was canceled, but it actually wasn't.

So who knows, again could be them not wanting to pull the plug too early hoping they could talk Axl into doing the show during the course of the day.  I'm not about to go Sherlock Holmes on this bitch.

Again, it's worth noting that it was actually announced on the PA that night in the Arena in Philly that the show was cancelled due to an illness in the band.

No, don't know where you heard that.  He was photographed at the Superbowl more than a month after that (if that was actually him).

No, he's talking about cancelling Philly, not Vancouver.

Then, we tried to cancel it again but Clear Channel wanted the tour to fail so they didn't let me cancel it. They wanted me to just not show and cause a riot. But the truth is, I was sick. It didn't have anything to do with fur coats, or basketball games".

It's cool that he addressed it, finally.  It was in December, so prime time for virus-based illnesses.

And yet again what's the common theme? He blames everyone else. He's so full of shit yet some just eat it up whatever he says. CC wanted the tour to fail and wanted a right uh huh roll His manager lied uh huh roll Funny how his bandmates had no clue what was going on..... gee maybe that's cause Axl's story to this is absolute garbage.

Did you even actually listen to what he said?  If you actually took the time to do that and be truly informed as to what his comments actually were you would know that he did not in fact "blame everyone else".  He even said he was not innocent in this.

Furthermore, he did not say his manager lied.  He said he asked his manager to cancel and he didn't.  Also, it WAS actually announced on the PA that same night that there was an illness in the band.

Last, he never said CC wanted a riot, or a "right" 16

Again, listening to what he actually said you would see that the above reported transcript of his comments are not correct.

The actual transcript of his comments:

“... Couldn't talk about shit for 5 years or I would have gotten sued for about everything I own by, fuckin’ corporate radio and shit, that were backing our tour. So I had to shut up. I mean, I did cancel the first show, at six in the morning. But my manager told me he canceled it and then didn’t. And then Clear Channel wanted us to fuck up, because they wanted to end the tour. ‘Cause they had some shit going on in Florida or something… I don’t know, something … a whole bunch of bullshit. But I got really sick; it had nothing to do with fur coats or basketball games or, you know ... I love Philly. I came to visit here a few times and stuff, I really liked it. So on this we decided, ‘OK we’re gonna risk it, what if we can throw in a show in Philly, and we can get in Philly and get out.' (unintelligible) don't go to jail. ... So it’s good to be here with you people tonight. I want to apologize for my part of that. You know, so… I’m not saying I’m innocent.”

First off,

I think it's great Axl took the time to speak up and apologize. Must've meant a lot to him personally to get both Vancouver AND Philly off his chest as of late.

A few questions arise:

- If Axl was spotted at the Spa at 3AM, what happened between that and 6AM to make him cancel the show?

- Why didn't his management cancel the show in the morning, or at least summon a physician? Axl's best interests would've been served with a medical statement sent to the promoter.

- Why wasn't the band notified on Axl's condition, as according to Tommy's friend, they were in Philly ready to play that night?

- What was the issue ClearChannel were having in Florida? GNR was slated to play two dates there in the following weekend.

All accounts point to a degree of powerplay, but by whom and to what end, it's hard to say.

I wouldn't take the NY Post as some sort of beacon of journalistic integrity and accuracy.  So, don't assume that publication is correct in saying he was at a club then.

As far as why the band wasn't notified, you'd have to ask GN'R management at the time.

As far as Florida goes, I'm not sure what Axl was getting at.

I don't get why it is hard to believe he came down with something in the middle of flu season.  Additionally, it was what was announced at the venue that night.

Absolutely not.

Thanks.  That the whole thing is weird.  Maybe there is some study showing smaller concentration of Slash fans in Detroit as compared to Chicago? 16
