That which is tangible, less shit posting.

If you made me make a choice of all the vault material, I would take 1999 CD followed closely by the weirdest unreleased songs.

I'm partial to songs like If The World and Silkworms over songs like Chinese and IRS.

No idea on the quality of the source but the translation says that Guns N’ Roses will play the recently renovated Silesian Stadium on July 9, 2018.

A European tour would be the next logical move but with AC/DC looking on the horizon and Slash and Duff’s contracts up soon this seems somewhat dubious.

We shall see.

I can see your point, as much as I like the 2002 band, sometimes Robin's playing is just not good and it gets to me.

But if you have a sports car in the garage, you don't drive the speed limit or use it to get groceries.

It's one reason why I think the NITL tour is boring. It's the UYI tour show. Old hat. You have a relatively blues oriented band. Slow some shit down, rework it. Not Slash wanking off on solos or tuning guitars like they're a grunge band.

I'm totally cool with it.

I want to see something new, not the album version or 1990s. I'm in the minority here for sure.

God damn that band was good.

#535 Re: Guns N' Roses » LEAKS THREAD » 409 weeks ago

Look at us. A bunch of regular Silk Spectres in this thread.

I think Pitman improved the songs quite a bit in 2002. I love that sound especially on Rocket Queen and the like. They're a hard rock band with electro-funk undertones. Good stuff. Not industrial in the least.

The 1999 Sunday AM rock band was perfectly good. Needed to release that album and move on, then shape shift again. It's a lack of musical direction and too many musical directions. Instead of solving the UYI problems, Axl amplified them.

The release of Chinese Democracy is another riddle wrapped in an enigma.

The album's artwork was done by Ryan Corey under a harsh deadline because the record company wanted to get the album out the door. This artwork has heavy pseudo-pop art influences, mixing vector modified versions of George Chin's tour photography with Asian and Arabic ornate patterns to create an interesting and unique look.

If you believe Team Axl, supposedly the artwork later seen in the abandoned 2010 re-release was ready to go in 2008 but for whatever reason was not used. The rear artwork of the vinyl would later appear on the disc cover of the 2010 re-release which was cancelled. According to Tommy, there would've been a ~2 week wait to use the proper artwork but the record company had enough and wasn't going to wait around for Axl.

Who knows what actually happened but considering Ryan never met with Axl, I'll file this under general Team Brazil incompetence.

wait, what? he drafted up a cover for cd at some point? first i've heard of that.

Yep.

"Whitehead is currently involved in a number of projects, including the intriguing possibility of creating the sleeve design for Guns N' Roses' long awaited and much-anticipated 'Chinese Democracy' album. 'I met just last week with [producer] Roy Thomas-Baker, so hopefully I'll be meeting again with Roy and Axl and it all gets tied up,' he says." (Classic Rock, 01/02)

And even the cover designer takes the piss. He probably got fired for this.

"[Album cover designer Paul Whitehead] was taken aback to learn that for the past three months Axl has been working on just one track." (Classic Rock, 01/02)

It's good. I like it.

Very Praxis-like.

It cracked my Buckethead Top 10 when I ranked them the other year.

That era had some interesting logos/banners. Not sure where they were going with it but wish it had turned out differently(for many reasons).

The comeback show in Vegas went with the classic GNR font "Onyx".

The iconography was generally Chinese in flavor. Your workers revolts, dragons, stars, what have you. The unfortunately rebranded Japanese Kamikaze Pilot now Chinese Revolutionary was thankfully retired after it's brief appearance in 2001. The protopunk revolutionary in a gas mask is the best of the lot and that was used only once before Clear Channel abandoned ship and the tour was cancelled.

The font later used in marketing materials in 2001-2002 and sparingly in 2006 was the font "Hirosh" which was used by Buckethead on his 1999 album "Monsters and Robots" and by Journey on the 2001 compilation album "The Essential Journey".

I read something awhile ago that Duff and Slash were part of the reason that the Vegas DVD was never released. I never heard that substantiated by anyone back in the day but that was an old chinese whisper if you will. If the legal issues were indeed the culprit, it would've been somewhat forgivable, but abandoning the entirety of the past brand identity was one of many marketing gaffes by the new lineup.

In addition to wanting the 2001 version of the album for artistic purity reasons, I would also very much like to see the abandoned Paul Whitehead artwork from 2001, none of which appeared on the released album or aborted re-releases.

The optimist in me hopes for a re-release in 2018 for the 10th Anniversary (jesus, god).

They could add some other songs as a bonus disc / bonus tracks like was the plan of yesteryear.

The realist in me is 99.9% sure that Nov. 23, 2018 will come and pass without a word.

Glad you had a good time at the show, friend. 9
