"I came in there initially to program some guitar sounds, and then wound up hitting it off with Axl (Rose, GUNS frontman), and then my job kind of migrated into the computer guy. I don't know what you would call me exactly. I kind of was there all night with Axl as he would work. The band came in during the day with a producer and would work most of the day, and then I would come in ten o'clock at night, say goodbye to those guys, Axl would show up later on, and then we'd do our thing all night and then do it the next day."

(I know, the shittiest source of news, like, ever)
funny and absurd thing is, that thanks to Axl's inactivity, Howerdel went on and started A Perfect Circle together with Josh Freese and Tool's Maynard James Keenan. the debut album is a cool one, not anything groundbreaking but cool.

Axl will release music on Axl time. He is who he is. He does whatever he wants, however he wants and whenever he wants. Nothing will change it.

definitely. but that time might also be as late as 250 years from now.

yup, it felt "vintage". BBF literally raped it. but miraculously, I prefer the album version smile

#535 Re: Guns N' Roses » Atlas Shrugged » 412 weeks ago

yup. as much I love BBF's versions of most solos and all that additional stuff that most people seem to sharply dislike, I'd love to hear the older renditions as well.
and now, please excuse me you bastards, I've just started listening to HOB 2001 after many many years again and YOU are to blame for this! big_smile

don't forget Robin, Josh Freese and Tommy Stinson, all those had a HUGE influence as well during that era. hard to say about Paul Huge.

Was played on 01/01/01, too.

huh, you're absolutely right, I forgot about that one! mismatched the performance with Madagascar, which premiered at RIR3... they played OMG, Rhiad, ChiDem, The Blues and Silkworms at HOB.
and that OMG was actually the first ever live performance of any ChiDem era song smile (altough it was no surprise, the studio version got out 2 years before)

#538 Re: Guns N' Roses » Atlas Shrugged » 412 weeks ago

AND the original Beavan version as well!

Yeah, remember it well. I didn't expect Izzy to not go thru on it either. I don't recall Cherry Roses, or at least I never took that seriously, thats so cheesy a name.  However Josh Todd was a bit of a frontrunner from what I recall. I didn't want him, at all, however his later album, 15 I think, was actually pretty good. I just remember him from the Cocaine song at the time, Lit Up.

exactly, it was more or less just a shortcut for media smile
I also remember this was the time when bands first started putting video content on the web - I have a pile (low quality though) of videos from that era - Randy Rhoads tribute show, some Slash/Duff/Sorum jams, related Camp Freddy videos, etc. crazy era indeed, especially putting it into context with the parallel GNR 2002 tours - it all went to shit in late 2002, while the ex-guns were pretty active, albeit nobody could even guess what the hell was going on smile and then a bit later, Set Me Free got out (the first moment I heard of it was the promo interview video with all VR members talking about the Hulk movie). and shit got real smile
