Bucket had fans in the audience when I saw them in 2002. One of them threw a tiny KFC bucket onto the stage, which Axl put on his head and laughed about. His "Star Wars" solo/nunchuck demonstration/robot dance got the biggest response of anything anyone on stage contributed, aside from Axl. He was weird and fascinating at the same time.

Everyone else came across as anonymous. Competent, but anonymous, and as dalethirsty said, way too numerous. They could have done much better with one less guitarist. Bucket, however, should have been one to stay.

His website is top-notch, steveperry.com.

I checked it out on your recommendation. You're right. And he's got tons of autographed items for really reasonable prices.

The cover art for his new album looks like one of those amazing Roger Dean paintings for Yes or Asia. He's doing it right, and the guy looks like he hasn't aged a bit!

Does anyone else disagree with the article's statement that Slash's first solo album was a "sign of doom" for GNR at the time it was released? To me, it felt like he and Duff were biding their time, waiting for a reunion that just never happened. Not until later did the news break that Axl was working on his own.

this!

cool to see how much of an anti-fuck axl gives in this. he was probably forced to rehearse and spent the whole time pouting, half-assing the songs.

then he got on stage at the actual award show and karma struck.

it's unreal that there's a human being on planet earth who is trying to charge 10k for this dumpster fire.

This entire post needs to be etched onto a gold record and sent into space after Voyager 1 and 2 so other civilizations can experience it as well.

You raise a good point: Until we actually saw this clip, a possibility remained that the footage captured Axl in a really special artistic place. Don't get me wrong, I still want to see it all as a missing link in our understanding of this era of GNR history, but I dread finding out that he spends much of it complaining.

It's 44 seconds of the rehearsal video, but there's a weird black rectangle covering the lower left part of the screen and big "GNRSUD" watermarks over the footage.

What is Axl saying during "Paradise City"? It sounds like, "Let's just say it's a whole different type of badness." Is that right? If so, I'm guessing there was some kind of audio issue he was commenting on.

Ryckert never should have released this footage and gotten this guy in trouble. He should have paraphrased what the dude said but given no clues to his identity. I turned off the video.

#557 Re: The Sunset Strip » What Are You Listening To? » 360 weeks ago

When I was 10 or 11 my dad bought a stereo system from a friend that had everything in it - radio, turntable, cassette deck, and eight-track. A friend of his gave him Ghost in the Machine on eight-track, which I listened to over and over and over. You couldn't fast-forward or rewind eight-tracks so I'd play it in its entirety. The guitar, rhythms, and lyrics blew my mind.

It took me decades to realize that the red digital symbols on the cover are Andy, Sting, and Stewart!

I will keep this book in mind as I am a big fan of Eric Clapton myself. I've seen him live twice at Madison Square Garden and his music inspired me to pick the guitar back up 8 years ago after a long hiatus of not playing.

That's awesome! No doubt he'd be proud to hear that.

Keith Richards book Life is a really good read if you like bio's. He has alot of insights & interesting tidbits, one of which, the keyboardist for Derek & The Domino's who wrote the Layla ending went mad & ended up killing his own mother, bizarre story. I read Springsteens book, wasn't nearly as good. Seemed as if he was blowing off his ghostwriter alot & the writer was starved for stories & details, milking out whatever he could out of it.

I found a second-hand copy of Keith's autobiography and am looking forward to reading it. I tried Bill's Stone Alone , which offered facts, figures, and dates, but little or no insights. He'd tell you the details of an album or tour, but not get into what it meant to him and the band. Is Ronnie's book any good?

My favorite Stones bios are Up and Down with the Rolling Stones by Tony Sanchez (which is a really personal, close-up view of what the guys were like, especially Keith) and Old Gods Almost Dead by Stephen Davis, which tells the whole story from the start to recent times, and pays a lot of attention to songs that are pretty obscure. Have you tried those?

I remember seeing that, although it was being posted on GNR forums as actual artwork from the album.

It's by an artist named Liu Zheng, from a series of photos called "The Chinese":

Considering what we know of Axl's taste in art from the Red Hand and Grenade booklets, I can totally see him liking this.

The leaker put that in there.

What I never got an answer on was where they got that logo / cover artwork.

When you say the logo/cover artwork, are you talking about for Chinese Democracy? Where did a leaker share it?
