What is there really to admit? None of us have any clue how often a melody pops into Axl's head when he's tinkering around on the piano, how often he actually works a melody and chord progression into something more like a fully formed song.
None of us even know if it is even Axl's plan to release CD-era material for the next record.

None of know anything for a fact Ali. It doesn't take a genius to understand what my point was but I'll spell it out for you. I was saying most of us might be affraid to admit that there is a POSSIBILITY that Axl's creative juices aren't really there anymore. If you don't believe that fine but there is the possibility of it. I don't know what melodies Axl works on in his spare time just like you don't know if he works on anything so....
Oh, I understand. But, I think it is so ridiculous that it isn't even worth considering. At ANY given time, an artist could be "tapped" creatively. This could happen after one song, one album, one decade of work. Is it possibly theoretically? Yes, it always is. But, there's nothing to suggest that. We wouldn't be the ones to know that regardless. So, there is nothing really to admit, when it's always possible and we have no way of knowing one way or another.

The band will work on new material this year, in between and after tour legs. An album will be released in 2013. The only question I have is whether the next record will be only older material, not yet released, or new material written with DJ, or a combination of the two.

those are uyi demos...the afd demos and possible songs to choose from would be reckless life, nice boys, ain't going down, don't cry, nov rain, back off bitch. I imagine there are cleaned up recordings of those songs that were done in the afd sessions but not used then.
What we got on UYI would be different than what was done during the formal recording of afd. The afd bonus tracks could just be cleaned up demos.
Either way, I would buy a remastered AFD without bonus tracks if it had the original artwork on the cover.
You wanna hear demo versions of already released tracks? I guess I don't feel the need because I have all the AFD demos already

No no no ...just a special anniversary edition of the original. Remastered with bonus tracks and the original artwork. Don't fucking touch anything with the recordings. You could do this AND put out a new band album. Ride the wave....
The problem is there really aren't any/many bonus tracks. There's "Ain't Goin' Down", "Just Another Sunday" and I guess "Crash Diet", although that's really a West Arkeen song. I don't really want to hear "Sentimental Movie". "Bring it Back Home" is alright, although like "Just Another Sunday" it sounds like a pretty rough demo.

Tommy Stinson. Great bass player, great energy and presence on stage and a tremendous songwriter.

-D- wrote:Biggest thing would be: will the label ALLOW Axl to release another album? no way they are going through that headache again when they make easy money on these shit rap, pop, r and b acts.
They are going to tell Axl... Reunite or no label support.
Thats how they got Nikki to bring Vince back to Motley.
Same shit is happening here i guarantee it and to all other bands who magically reunited.
If the label has been paid off on recording costs, which is what's rumored to have happened, and they're currently renegotiating their contract, as Axl has said, that's not going to happen.
GN'R will end up on another label, perhaps a smaller label, if they try a power play.
Yeah, that could happen. Frankly, I don't give a shit if GN'R plays arenas or theaters or what label they are on. If they can continue to release new music and kick ass on stage, that's all that really matters in the end to me.

misterID wrote:Axlin, CD wasn't "pryed" from his hands, it was turned over to UNI a year before it was released. UNI sat on it. And we've had new music. People used to say a reunion would happen before CD was released. Then CD was released and there was no reunion. Like Joe Friday says, "Just the facts, mam."
And a HOF reunion isn't a given. Axl hasn't ruled out a HOF performance, but he has been pretty clear he's continuing with this line up. I see nothing that says a full blown reunion is happening.
Exactly, this argument will never go away though despite Axl spelling it out repeatedly that a reunion AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN! In fact, outside of Steven Adler, none of them seem to be too concerned with a reunion. The fans can continue to hold onto that hope, but I suggest they let it go. New music from this lineup is so much more likely than a reunion, it's not even funny. I'm not saying we're getting new music anytime soon, I'm simply saying that's how unlikely a reunion is. I'm hoping they can suck it up for ONE night, but that's even asking a lot.
Also, not that I expect it, but just because we haven't been given the blueprints for future plans for the current lineup, doesn't mean there are none. About a month ago Van Halen fans were still in the dark about what the hell was going on. They had no clue if the album actually existed, when/if they'd get to hear music, news, etc. Now it's all laid out nicely for them. So let's not pretend that we know everything because we haven't heard anything.
Not only is new music from this lineup more likely, I think it will be more interesting than a reunion. I saw the old band and I'm not really interested in a trip down memory lane. People assume it's a foregone conclusion that the old band can just pick up where they left off. I don't. These guys aren't the 20-25 year olds struggling to make it on the streets. They've changed.
Even if they were to reunite, would they even be able to make new music together? It's clear Axl's creative path has diverged from the old school GN'R sound, and that divide started the minute Axl wanted to bring in Dizzy Reed. He was honoring his Elton John and even Freddie Mercury influences, but neither Slash nor Izzy have shown much enthusiasm for that decision in hindsight.

"I must say that the last GNR tour was a lot of fun. The camaraderie was the best it’s been in all my 14 years and I think we all went home inspired by the possibilities. "
That's the vibe I've gotten from this whole last tour. I've said it before, this seems like the most positive version of the band I've seen post 1991. A group of guys who want to work together and make music.
Agreed. A great vibe. Honestly, I think a good part of that has to do with DJ. He's enthusiastic and energetic.

I think we played this game from 1997 to 2007. This time, shit or get off the pot.
O.k. I see what you're saying. But, I don't think DJ is being disingenuous in what's saying. How it pans out and how long it takes to pan out is another question. But, I'd love to hear a song with melodic lead guitar playing like "Ballad of Death" and Axl's vocals.
