maybe all the others just don't give a flying fuck anymore

we know that they "have" the material, that's not a problem.
the problem is, they don't "release" it.
until then, It Doesn't Really Matter who plays what on the material, as they Leave That Thing called releasing stuff To Somebody Else wink

my interest in guns peaked in '06.

the band looked and sounded phenomenally. at this show and a few others that year, they actually captured a bit of the old band's energy. or maybe it was their own energy, hard to tell.

in any case, it was a great time to be a gnr fan. it was great to see axl back with that fire again.

nothing beats the rock am ring show, though. i still watch that dvd from time to time.

this. I'm on the same ship as you. it all started to go wrong in about 2010, and shit definitely hit the fan since 2011.

to me it seems that Fortus is the only guy onstage who always keeps his huge grin. the others seem to be hardly interested at all and bored as hell. this is becoming more and more embarassing (and I thought the 2012-14 stint was the rock bottom... it wasn't).

#575 Re: Guns N' Roses » Stay of Execution Album Cover » 414 weeks ago

yes, all those are totally valid points. the most important thing is now, that they really don't have any intention to move out of their comfort zone, so most probably some long nostalgia tour is all that's coming.
based on reviews, I think almost all show visitors don't care about new stuff anyway (in fact they hate anything new, no matter what it is) and they just want the classic hits. so it's quite a comfortable position for the band.

#576 Re: Guns N' Roses » Stay of Execution Album Cover » 414 weeks ago

I don't think anything from middle 90's was more than just some ideas. it makes no sense to get back to that stuff, especially considering the times have changed (it's 2017 now, remember?).
it makes more sense to dig into the ChiDem stuff, which MIGHT sound much more modern. the problem is, 1) it's almost as old as the middle 90's sessions - most of that stuff was written and recorded in about 1997-2002, 2) nobody from the current lineup except Dizzy was ever working on that stuff, 3) nobody knows how many completed or almost completed songs are there, as most of that stuff might again be ideas, riffs and only in Axl's mind there might be a complete song here and there, which (as was the case of Chinese Democracy) must be glued together from millions of separate pieces (and the final products sounds mostly incoherent and inconsistent).

yup, I also think this performance is mediocre. any performance during BH/BBF era has so much more energy and power than this tired nostalgy rendition... for me the best Nightrain years might be something like this: 2006/7, 2002, 2009/10, UYI, AFD, 2001, then a long gap, 2011... a long gap again, and 2012-14 together with 2016/17.

For fucks sake, more fans that didn't discover GNR until CD, lol.....  This is the most ridiculous shit I have seen. To prefer Bumble and Finck back in the band, I don't get this shit. No offense fellers, you guys dancing with Mr. Brownstone? This shit is in the spirit of Live Era yet you still don't like it. Did you like Live Era?

nah, I'm a fan since early 90's, probably '91 or so.
I've never told anything about preferring someone back in the band, where did you read that? nonsense. I just think the current "era" is extremely similar to 2012-14, just that Slash got back in the band, which in turn means huge $$$ profits, but from a creative point of view, it's zero points.
and yeah, I totally forgot about Live Era. that Nightrain performance made me love the song. yeah, I know, it wasn't really "live", but who cares, it's a fucking blast! I'd rate that one on par with 2002.

well, but they're doing something - milking the reunion cow during the world tour smile and the world is still not saturated enough, so this can go on for a year, or maybe even a couple of years. remember the neverending UYI tour or even 2009-14 tour (hell, I don't even remember how many legs did that one have)

#579 Re: Guns N' Roses » Stay of Execution Album Cover » 414 weeks ago

honestly I think they should completely depart from the pseudo-Chinese pseudo-socialistic-realism stylistic and move on to something completely different. that era died in 2014 (and has been in a coma for a couple of years already).
