This comes a bit late 14

So...

I have it, I think.

It's been a weird week. I have symptoms but not the typical ones such as fever. I called a GP before Easter. They didn't diagnose it, they said I must have something 'viral', though. They told me to keep myself hydrated and take paracetamol. I tried self medicating with Vicks to clear my lungs  and I felt it was making me feel worse so I stopped straight away. I stopped coughing after a couple days  but now the cough is returning and I am not sure what it means. Am I getting better or not? Everything feels so unfamiliar.

Food has no taste whatsoever. It's been about 7 days now. I can feel pepper and salt, as well as sweet things but the taste is gone. My sense of smell has disappeared too.
I am starting to have enough. During the first few days, I had to force myself to eat because I didn't feel hungry anymore.

I am very lucky to be still here after over a week of symptoms.  So many people end up very poorly, so many people die... I wish I could tell why I never got this high temperature described in articles I have been reading. It seems so unfair, somehow. Why do some people have to suffer so much because of this virus? My thoughts are going to all the NHS staff who died in the past few days. RIP Donna, Melissa, Janice, Becca, Thomas... It is not a joke. I wish I had taken this thing more seriously.

It is pretty surreal.

I found the The Queen Speech earlier on quite emotional. She has given the big broadcast speech only 4 times before, the first of which was in 1940 during ww2. She really is ingrained in the countries history.

Worth saying since the lockdown, more and more people have been going out. Families out for walks and pensioners, groups ect.

This is not working.

What’s not working?

A lockdown where people are still allowed out to excerise.

It's being abused. More people outside than ever before, except they're not going to work.

I have noticed more people out in the past few days than last week. Also more groups than before. Not good.

Boris Johnson Admitted to Hospital for Tests in Precaution

U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson was taken to an undisclosed hospital for tests after suffering from the coronavirus for 10 days and failing to shake off its symptoms, including a high fever.

“This is a precautionary step,” a Downing Street spokesperson said in a statement. “The prime minister thanks NHS staff for all of their incredible hard work and urges the public to continue to follow the government’s advice to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.”

He remains in charge of the government, and is in contact with ministerial colleagues and officials.

Deaths:12,428

USA:
About 331 M people

China ( China population is equivalent to 18.47% of the total world population  - stealing that quote from somewhere on the Internet, apologies for not crediting since I don't know which site it is from).
1,439,323,776  (including Wuhan: 11 M).
Cases: 81,518 (!!!!!)
Deaths: 3,305 (!!!!!!!!)

See how that virus spread to so many countries and you have now more deaths in Italy than in China?

I really don't think they could contain the virus to Wuhan only.

And I don't think the numbers they were feeding us were realistic.

Sometime around 6 February there was some article about the lies released by the Chinese government,  where numbers were 154000 cases and 24589 deaths. I have a screencap I sent to a family member because those numbers were so scary.

Major European papers are starting to question the numbers released by China. Back in February questioning numbers seemed more like something that conspiracy theorists would do.

It seems that there are 8 crematoriums in Wuhan, which was the epicentre of the epidemic. China says 2535 people died because of Covid19 in Wuhan. Why all the crematoriums are overworking then? Why such large queues? But more importantly what's going on elsewhere in China? What about the other areas that were most certainly contaminated?

Funny how those playlists mysteriously appear now... 10 years too late.

Coronavirus: Why Germany has such a low COVID-19 death rate

Germany has had around 200 coronavirus deaths despite having more than 37,000 confirmed cases of the disease.

When comparing how countries around the world are coping with COVID-19, one country immediately stands out.

In Germany, just 0.6% of their confirmed coronavirus cases have so far ended up being fatal - the lowest figure amongst any of the most affected countries.

Yamcha, any clapping in your area tonight?

Was actually surprised plenty did it here. I guess the fact tv ratings for the news is going through the roof really pushed it well.

I have no idea, I was still at work if and when this happened. The only thing I noticed tonight was a group of young adults out together on the street, looking like they were going to some social gathering. 10

Absolutely disgusting.

NHS staff warned to hide ID after spate of targeted muggings

Robbers targeting doctors and nurses to obtain free food offered for tackling coronavirus

NHS staff are being targeted by muggers trying to steal their identity badges so they can use them to obtain the free food and drinks being offered to doctors and nurses tackling coronavirus.

Health service bosses are so concerned by a spate of incidents that they are preparing to warn all hospital staff to hide their NHS lanyards when they are arriving at or leaving work.

NHS England condemned attempts to rob staff as “the actions of an idiotic few”.

Last week robbers tried to grab badges belonging to two personnel at Lewisham hospital in south London but did not succeed. The muggers approached the two staff – thought to be doctors – as they were walking through a park just outside a rear entrance to the hospital.

One of the doctors’ colleagues said: “Something like this is appalling. It’s beyond the pale and so shocking. Someone tried to grab my colleagues’ ID badges as they were leaving but didn’t get them.”

All staff at the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS trust’s two acute hospitals have now been told to keep their lanyards concealed when they are entering or leaving the premises. The trust’s all-staff briefing issued on Monday said: “Following reports of an attempt to take the ID badges of two members of staff as they were leaving work, please make sure your ID badge is out of sight.”

Those trying to steal ID badges are thought to want them to obtain the free coffee, pizza and other products that high street chains such as Leon, Domino’s, Costa Coffee, Pret a Manger, Burger King, Pizza Hut and Greggs have begun offering NHS staff to thank them for their efforts in dealing with the coronavirus epidemic.

An NHS official said: “This is absolutely grim. ID badges are being stolen in a few places as staff come out of their trust. As soon as staff are coming off-site they are waiting for them and stealing them, to get the free food and also so they can go shopping during the protected early morning shopping hour that some supermarkets have put in place for NHS staff.

“It’s mainly nurses who have been targeted. They’re the ones who often walk out of the main entrance of a hospital with their lanyards on.”

NHS England is finalising new advice that it will send to all 240 trusts in England, asking them to tell staff to be vigilant and to keep their ID badge hidden.

Ruth May, its chief nursing officer, said: “Our NHS staff are pulling out all the stops in the face of an unprecedented global health threat, so these reports are really concerning. We have seen some extraordinary acts of generosity from businesses and the public and this will not be overshadowed by the actions of an idiotic few, but I would urge everyone to show NHS staff the gratitude they deserve and help them to do what they do best.”

Several departments at University College Hospital London, a major acute trust in the centre of the capital, have recently advised their own staff to beware after several incidents. Trust bosses then issued a briefing to all personnel on Monday repeating the need to be careful.

It said: “We are doing what we can to keep you safe. Please raise your vigilance and do not have your mobile phone or NHS lanyards/ID visible outside our hospitals. Please remember to report any incidents to security at UCLH too.”
