After a second listen yes i can hear the dentist drill esq sound effect.
Nice attention to detail on your part.
Very interesting also !

The fact Hardschool was originally worked on before nugnr era and continued to be worked on during the nugnr lend credence to Tooth Puller being carried over also especially with the dentist drill sound effect.

Honestly the first time anyone has mentioned that to me.

I obviously don't know that Tonto it is toothpuller but I  do wonder if the noise could be there as a shot or way of making fun of Izzy maybe.

The first time I heard about Toothpuller came from before the DATS had been discovered..

The following appeared in Metalsludge in 2006. There was no way of really backing the veracity of it until the DATS were discovered years later. If someone made up the Dizzy quotes then they would have had to guess that there was a song called Toothpuller (which is unlikely) Thanks to the DAT photos we can say that the song did exist, that it did have vocals & that at least Dizzy thought it was awful...

“Izzy used to be a great songwriter- his contributions to Guns N’ Roses first album are phenomenal. But, its almost like the guy has lost the fire… I mean I saw the guy a couple years back in the studio… and he was showing me a song he had just written called "Toothpuller" – it was literally about him visiting the dentist and getting a tooth pulled out. [Dizzy then sings some of the lyrics] I mean… this is a guy who wrote some badass songs and now he’s writing about getting his tooth pulled… I mean come on… can you imagine Axl singing that live?’(Dizzy https://metalsludge.tv/classic/?p=30945 )

“in April 1995, Duff calls again: “I’m trying to write new songs for the next GN’R record. Come lend me a hand.” It’d been five years since I’d left Guns, but I told myself, “Well shit, after all, why not?” Duff and I wrote ten songs in one week, and also made demos of them. And I thought, “It’s so easy.” When you work with someone like Duff, who loves music in the same way you do, everything becomes simple.” (French Izzy interview, 2001)

Some other comments on the time....

“He's been writing; he wrote some stuff with Duff. He wants to write songs, but he doesn't wanna deal with the whole thing. And it took me a while to finally get to the point where I couldn't handle it either, y'know? He wants to write material, but he's not really sure what he wants to do. He's so laid back. He doesn't want to deal with any pressure. Izzy does what he wants to do.” (Slash Metal Hammer November 1995)

“We recorded 10 songs in eight days. It got me excited about music again. I realized how easy the whole process could be. Those sessions were fun and painless. We just had a great time.”(Izzy Los Angeles Daily News, March 20, 1998)

“I'm using a Music Man Stingray. I started using it onstage. I've always liked these basses. Actually, when we were trying to do the Guns album I broke this bass out, and it just sounded amazing. It's bigger and fatter sounding. (Duff Hit  parader June 1999)

Dizzy quote is just stupid.
Saying Izzy used to be greag song writer but isn't now ? Coming from Mr Bongos that is hilarious.

Night Train is about shit malt iquor and was written by Izzy with Slash.
So a song about getting your tooth removed doesn't seem that crazy.

Also notice how Izzy worked on Velvet Revolver's first album Contraband but not on their second album Libertad which has a noticeable drop in quality ?

Izzy wasn't the best live but he's a helluva a song writer.

The fact Tooth Puller, Machine Gun and Down By The Ocean are Izzy and Duff songs is good for the fans and the band.

@troccoli any help my friend on what Machine Gun became hypothetically of course ?

I'm enjoying this conversation, it is insightful and i believe the community bouncing ideas and sharing information will lead to us discovering more about these tracks.

My opinion is that the vault is not empty and all future releases will come from the vault, songs that Slash or Duff worked on orginally are likely to be released.

A example of that is Hardschool.
Which i believe to be about Izzy.
It was the second release from the reunion era version of gnr.

@james where are you at brother ?

Per @zombux
"Unknown studio recording by Duff and Izzy - around April 1995   *MISSING* "10 pieces" including Down By The Ocean or Down By The Sea, Machine Gun (at least 3 takes) and Tooth Puller (the latter two dated April 18 1995) *MISSING* [DOES NOT CIRCULATE

occasional studio rehearsals around July-August 1995 (Duff and Matt Sorum mostly during days, while Axl was there in the nights)

Slash's home studio - (since Aug to "late fall 1995" - Slash and Duff tried sessions together with Paul Huge - "Slash musically involved for 2 week initial period")

("The Shadow Company" - parallel studio lineup - Axl, Paul Huge, Dizzy, since Oct 94 to early Feb 95 also Sid Riggs and Krys Baratto, to about Aug 96)   The Complex Studio, LA (?) sessions - for example "the folky nonsense" (Jun 96), or Shaq jamming (unclear if Feb 96 or April 1997 but 97 seems way off

Slash returned for work with GNR in July 96 - Unknown sessions at The Complex ("The Compound") - around July to October 1996 (Slash, Duff, Axl, Dizzy, Matt Sorum, Paul Huge - "the next Jackie Chan movie") early sketch of Fall To Pieces *MISSING* [DOES NOT CIRCULATE]

Slash left GNR for good before October 30th 1996"

Duff left in August of 1997.

My take

Jackie Chan aka Hard School
Down By The Ocean
Machine Gun
Tooth Puller
Are from that era

Could Curly Shuffle also be from that era ?
I also question if Oklahoma/Berlin is from that era.
Here's why
According to Chinese Whisperers
1995

"[Oklahoma] was inspired by a court date with ex-wife Erin Everly. 'I was sitting in my litigation with my ex-wife, and it was the day after the bombing, [April 20th, 1995]' Rose remembers with a wince. 'We had a break, and I'm sitting with my attorneys with a sort of smile on my face, more like a nervous thing - it was like, 'Forgive me, people, I'm having trouble taking this seriously.' It's just ironic that we're sitting there and this person is spewing all kinds of things and 168 people just got killed. And this person I'm sitting there with, she don't care. Obliterating me is their goal.'" (Axl, Rolling Stone, 2000)

1998

"As the far as the songs go: 'Oklahoma' was pretty much written by the time they got to the studio. Axl wrote that with inspiration from the Oklahoma City bombing (more as a tribute to those who died, if I'm not mistaken). [...] (Dave Dominguez, Sp1at, 02/07/05)

Unrelated but I mention Canoga park in this video & I actually meant Central Park. I later looked into LastFM and found anyone can name a song whatever they want so i wouldn't put any stock in the Dragons Kiss title, but Dragon however is probably real.

Very well put together video and interesting.  I wasn't expecting Captain and Teneal showing up in it. I'm going to share this and thank you.

I noticed you brought the Curly Shuffle DAT in Iron Mountain up over at badapples. The engineer was Critter (Chris) Snyder and the assistant engineer was Jer Blair (Jeremy Blair). Both worked together on Obsolete by Fear Factory the year before this In 98 (when Dave Dominguez was  at Rumbo working with Guns) I believe they turned up after he left the project. As far as the name goes I'm sure its just a place holder but there is a song with that name by Jump 'n the Saddle Band as tribute to The Three Stooges, it's such an oddly weird name that i kind of suspect it comes from that.

The mix from The Village comes from March 2000 & will be way more complete than this DAT in that video as that is a 24 track SLAVE. There would have been 24 tracks on the Master as well but Drums (multiple mics) Bass ect would have pushed it over 24 tracks so engineers would link a second 24-track machine to the first one. That DAT in the video is from the second machine and likely contains guitar solo's and overdubs along with whatever electronic synths/ keys ect were added at the time (if any). I believe they used Neve consoles at Rumbo & definitely did at the Village.

Yeah i heard the other curly shuffle with a bunch of three stooges clips in the song.

The other information is interesting because it shows it was a early song and the majority of those were completed.

I will share your post in the thread at badapplesforum, thank you for the information and insight.

You just lurk on forums and chat rooms with alts and make these lists about what you read and half the time it isn’t even correct.

I'm not the list troll. This info came from an american "Big B" source. Please, I hope you don't bother this information. Thank you.

Your “source” Brasky is posting all this info on GnFnR and in the Discord. You’re also taking what he says and filling in any gaps with guesses and are spreading false information. You aren’t some insider and you don’t know anything.

All you do is shit up messageboards and chat rooms with your endless lists.

You type exactly like the list troll, even down to the same kind of grammar and spelling mistakes, because you are the same person.

wtf were you talking about i had no communication with that poster you quoted.

Yeah another shit bump in a thread but would love to know wtf Axl S is talking about here.

I believe Troccoli owns this. I wouldn't expect it to leak or anything.

You are correct sir.

It now can collect dust like the others.

I like Troccoli btw very nice guy.

People only know about this disc because someone spotted it on eBay (I think it was you guys on BadApples?). But for every disc that gets seen, there are probably three or four others that go completely unnoticed.

In 2025, leaks, alternate versions, and remixes are easier than ever to fake because of AI. The only reliable way to verify something is real is if it comes directly from physical media—like internal studio reference discs or label-made copies which is why (for those who still care) it's worth looking out for this stuff now more than before.

This disc matches the look of Capitol studio discs from that era (I’ve seen a few before), so I don’t doubt that it’s legitimate.

The bad news: you’re not going to hear this shared publicly by Troc or the person who sold it to him.
The good news: it’s probably not much different from the hundreds of versions of the song we already have. The only potential plus if we did get it would be a rip of lossless audio which might be an improvement of any comparable version floating around out there.

Yeah Gunsntortillas found it but it was already sold. I think everyone likes Troccoli it just sucks it will collect dust like i said, instead of real guns n roses fans hearing it.
So keep a eye out ebay gentleman for guns n roses stuff maybe next time one of us gets it before Troccoli or others who will just add it to their personal collection.

Btw i cannot thank you guys here on evo who put Chinese Whispers together enough. The best thing the gnr community has ever compiled.
